Good deal Foxy. Still not been, but very tempted now. I'd walk away from that feeling full and I'd happily wash it down with a nice glass of vino. And it isn't complaining to expect a decent price for a local eatery. A flan for me isn't necessarily a sit down and eat experience, it's more of a lunchtime snack with a cup of tea in the garden. Ill be sticking to my Ayres cheese flan slice, but that's my choice! Louisa.

Is it just me or are the threads becoming more banal?
Louisa replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
Isn't this entire forum mostly banal tripe nowadays? Most of the interesting folk were scared away, most of the intensely interesting disagreements we used to live by are now quashed by PC BS exacerbated by endless dishwater political crap. Even *Bob* left. I say no more. Louisa. -
A flan slice with a side salad, best part of a tenner. Bargain. Louisa.

Also, why does a BBQ have to involve fossil fuel burning? You can get gas and electric options! Don't understand the fascination with antipodean style meat preparation. Steamed and slow roasted meat retain far more flavour than being burnt and half cooked on a coal burning heat pit. No trolling from me, just honesty as ever. Louisa.

A good quality flan is available from Ayres in Nunhead. I buy them often. This place sounds like it's offering something similar but with a different name. Be interested to see prices. I think often they simply change the names to baffle people into buying something "different" which is in effect a flan with a few extras chucked it. Don't see why the name has to be changed personally, I suppose the products will be at a premium price in comparison. Louisa.

I think it's disgusting that the rest of us have to put up with groups of loud inconsiderate mostly younger people screaming and shouting and making a nuisance of themselves until late on into summer evenings burning fossil fuels whilst drunk, with little to no consideration for anyone around them. Lots of it going on around the Landells/Barry RD end of ED, and I am have lost the plot more than once with people over it. Why is it I can sit in the garden, get drunk, not make a noise and grab a blanket if I'm cold? No justification for it is needed, selfish nasty and damn right ignorant behaviour. End of. Louisa.

This new place sells posh quiche? Is that right? Louisa.

The trouble is, locally where are the nearest public conveniences? So many have been removed over the years that we now have to rely on large parks and supermarkets for the use of these essential services. Not in any way excusing this man's very publicly indecent display, but interesting topic nontheless. Louisa.

Is The Great Exhibition getting louder or what?

A proper locals pub that was hardly used because the demographic changed. In my day this place was rammed. I too am glad it's not flats, but it would be nice to have a few reasonably priced pubs in the area that get the balance between old and new just right. The Gowlett does it pretty well, as does the EDT. If I want a proper old school pub I know I need look no further than The Castle, it's the sort of environment I've come to enjoy over the years. Some people might feel comfortable paying a fortune for a pint in a gastrofied pub with no atmosphere, but that isn't my cup of tea. Louisa. -
If we all sit back and moan without confronting the issue it won't improve. Contact M&B head office and share your concerns if this pub is trying to brush over the poor quality service. No one should have to accept badly run businesses, you are handing over your money to these people for a service. Louisa.

The C&G website has a feedback form which asks you to rate the service including food and drinks, and also atmosphere. You also have a chance to leave comments to tell them about your experience. Could be interesting judging by most comments above. https://tellus.thecrownandgreyhound.co.uk Louisa.

I think they missed a trick by not sticking a Haevester or Beefeater in there. I love a salad cart. Louisa.

Once a decent proper locals pub, now yet another soulless gastro refit with overpriced beers. Trouble is, if you live next to a boozer that's been there for well over a hundred years, don't expect it to be quiet. I'd sooner go to the castle just up the road, think that's where some of the old CPT regulars ended up after the yuppie refit. Louisa. -
We are long overdue becoming a republic. I think it is a disgrace that a modern democracy still has a unelected head of state in the 21st century. The monarch and her family of hangovers on clinging to power without a single vote being caste in a ballot box anywhere. It really is laughable when we as a country go all over the world telling others how to live, have our symbolic head of state born into her role. Louisa.

Help-Ma-Boab Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Are the windows big enough to be seen in? Asking > for a friend... There's a few people on here HMB who probably went up on the soft opening night to 'be seen' sat in the front garden. Thinking about it, half of those people requesting to 'eat their food out the front cos it's a nice day', more than likely just wanted to 'be seen' attending the long awaited reopening yada yada. All the predictable suspects, wanting to spend 20 quid on a basic meal so that people can stare at them. Don't get me stared. Louisa.

None of the above comes as a surprise. Still good for a drink on a walk for me, but won't be paying the best part of a score for sausage & mash. The Dulwich Estate surpasses itself once more. Nice tables out the front though. Louisa.

Hopefully C?te Brasserie will be moving in. Or CAU. Edited to add, I have just checking the planning portal and Cafe Rouge is set to become 'The Real Greek', which was originally moving to ED. Change of plans? Louisa.

Nice to see the interior hasn't hardly changed at all in the pub. Does make you question what the last few have been all about though? Beer prices are important, but not the only factor. A decent establishment will have something for everyone. Also, a brisk walk last night and I noticed new tables and chairs out the front. Looked very appealing on a summers evening. Louisa.

Well it's common sense really, as a pedestrian you wait and if the car stops you walk out onto the crossing. I personally always thank drivers, purely because it's courteous, something distinctly lacking in this city of arrogance. If you are already using the crossing the driver must obviously stop. The whole point of the zebra crossing is to promote friendly cohesion between drivers, pedestrians and cyclists alike. Louisa.
-
A car doesn't officially have to stop at a zebra crossing, unless someone is already walking across it. However, it is common courtesy in my book for a driver to stop if they see someone waiting. The warning I would offer pedestrians, being one myself as well as a driver, is that you should never assume a driver has enough time to break if you suddenly approach and mount the crossing at speed. You're putting yourself at considerable risk, especially around here where stupid crazy drivers assume they can approach crossings at 40mph with music blaring and be able to stop in time. Louisa.

According to website you can book a table for food between yesterday and its official launch on Monday and receive a 50% discount on the bill. Some sort of pre launch menu trying thing. Hence why it was busy. Louisa.

No idea if the unit has already been taken on by someone else, but no changes of use have gone through so presume it will remain retail. Louisa.

Mothercare in Peckham closed down. What's replacing it? Louisa.

Indeed the Taoiseach has been on Twitter to air his concerns today. Louisa.

For those of us still a little in the dark over what the DUP stands for, can anyone provide a basic insight into what the position of the party is on specific policy areas such as homosexuality, abortion and other social issues. Louisa.
