  2. After a while away I come back to even fancier coffee than anywhere along LL, and worst of all, it's in SE15! Will the bourgeoisie stop at nothing to condemn the rest of us to a life of goats milk and ca phe vn.
  3. Did anyone actually read Dulwich Life? hmmm
  4. I am so pleased so much is now happening with this, thansk to PP. I've had nothing but short sharp responses from the council and the legion, but then again I can be a little stroppy. Thanks again to everyone whos investigated and contributed to this topic.
  5. If anyone has a gene centred view of evolution it most certainly isnt me!
  6. Cars are of course very dangerous and account for more fatalities than any other form of transport I believe? But lets remember that there are more cars on the road than any other type of vehicle, be that bus motorbike or bicycle. I have driven for years, in towns and on country lanes and motorways, I have luckily (touch wood) not witnessed or been involved in a single accident in that time. I could say that as a result cars are statisically more safe when I am driving! Just because you or no one else on here has been directly involved in an incident on public transport does not mean it is any safer to travel by it. Yes you are less likely to be involved in an accident, but equally you are more likely to be involved in a potentially uncomfortable and dangerous situation which you have no direct control over.
  7. Well the Harvester still carry the name, although I would never consider drinking in there myself. It still has a bar area I believe, and could be a decent walk up Cox Walk to the DWH.
  8. Sean, all forms of media "reintroduce' stories for their own headline grabbing greed or political motivation, it happens every day of the week, all across the globe. The reason I raised this story as an issue was because so many people like to talk about how wonderfully safe the transport system is, and yet this is the forth story I have come across about local attacks on public transport. This is the first story I have come across of it's type in the Mail, and even though I admit they do tend to lead on old stories to create sensationalist headline grabbers, I am not raising this issue because it was in that or any other newspaper. A man was attacked, allegedly by the guy whos currently on trial, and I want to let everyone know why I believe I have a valid reason for not using the local network of trains and buses. If it can happen on a packed train at 7 in the evening, it can happen any time.
  9. The Plough isnt a very fair half way spot between Goose Green and ED! I would have thought the Grove Tavern would be a more suitable in between place for a drink.
  10. I love the way this thread has gone from talking about a brutal attack on an elderly man, to political banter about a tabloid type newspaper!...

Trust me ladies get up to all sorts when they're bored.
  12. I agree BM, but what do you suggest we do about it? Patronise people into thinking we know best about what is true and what is not? Thats hardly democratic. The great thing about freedom of the press is that it keeps politics, famous faces, and sections of the media in check. People should take it upon themselves to double check these things if they suspect them to be false.
  13. No offence AP, but I think one of the greatest things we have in this country is freedom of the press. I agree that well over half of the tabloid crap out there is all or partly lies, but I still think the British public are smart enough to make up their own minds about what is true and what is fantasy.

I better find some new batteries for my vibrator if thats the sort of TV dribble i'll have to put up with to start my 2008!
  15. "Jesus Fucking Wept"
  16. If you want to talk about rehashing old stories at trials then lets look at the case of that 15 year old lad in Scotland who was picked up and burnt alive by 3 gang members. This story didnt make the national press at all until the trial date, when the BBC had it as a headline story! That is equally as bad.. and even worse because it involved potentially race related issues!
  17. I am not a big fan of the Daily Mail either, but I have read this story in other newspapers too. If I had posted Guardian or Independent articles would you guys be up in arms? I am not here to discuss the political spectrum, just the fact that this poor old guy was (allegedly) brutally attacked, pushed off a train and left for dead! I dont wish to make light of the subject at hand here. One of the many reasons I choose not to use public transport is outlined by this case. This was a packed train, and not a single person intervened to try and prevent this guy from doing this?! No one chased after him? This is why I hate public transport in London. I am not pretending to know all the facts about this case, but what strikes me is that one of the safer local stations had such a violent attack take place on a busy commuter train! Of course I am going to raise this as an issue! And sean, I think road rage is different because I can lock the doors and know the chances of someone getting to me are slim, on public transport that is not the case!
  18. Muttley I do hope you're not related to the notorious pirate who accidently wrecked a ship returning with goods from Ireland, which contained his duaghter. The pirate, so distressed by what he had done, recovered his daughter, and laid her to rest in a small room in Chambercombe Manor with a rose put across her chest. The room was bricked away and not dicsovered for nearly 200 years.. http://www.chambercombemanor.org.uk/index.asp ...Or maybe you just come from sheep farming stock! :)
  19. Foxtons are crap, and i'd never consider using them to sell my house, BUT, if the Putney offices are anything to go by, they will at least make the street look nice. They converted the corner unit off Putney High Street some years back, and it looks spectacular - it's all glass! ... anyway sorry... Foxtons are crap etc..
  20. ClareC Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Whether you embrace the culture or not you will be > one of many Londoners pushing up the house prices > and making the area unaffordable for locals! > That sure does sound familar ClareC... hehe
  21. It's actually surprisingly easy Brendan, give it a go! ;-)
  22. I was watching this on the news earlier... I recycle and holiday in Britain as much as possible.. I do my bit for the climate (even though I highly doubt Global Warming actually exists, and even if it did I cant see anyone making much difference after 300+ years since the industrial revolution began)...
  23. Bob I found an Ilfracombe Forum... I think i'd be one of two locals if I posted on it! lol http://icpg.p5.org.uk/forum.html
  24. Becoming a local is embracing the culture which is already there.. and taking part in community events, supporting EXISTING local businesses.. I think all of these ideas are alien to incomers to ED..
  25. I came across this story the other day, and it's related to West Dulwich station - a place which I always thought was one of the safest local stations. An elderly man was beaten and thrown off a packed train for politely asking someone to move so he could get off the train (allegedly). Read below. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=473854&in_page_id=1770&ito=1490
