  1. I agree Keef, Woolwich is a dump, and now Barclays have taken over the only thing the place was famous for (other than the football team which decided north of the river was better), it could well be time for some regeneration. But please... Tesco? ...
  2. Bloody stinking council. A bunch of do gooders and single mums with nothing better to do go and ask for a street party without thinking about people who need to use the road and street and dont want noise around them. I hate community events like that. Whats the point? And anyway, only some people can attend? Boo Hoo!
  3. Brendan this is what people do not think about. Yes the hole in the wall will be gone and yes we will be down to just a few cash machines all on the other side of the road. I am sending Barclays an arsey email now letting them know how awful it will be without their presence on both sides of the road. The bloody Village branch doesnt even have a cash machine! God I hate Barclays :(
  4. The of an era. Tilt Estates really were a successful and predominantly family run business for years. I remember the old lady well, and god was she strict with her rents!
  5. Ah thats what you think, but i've heard rumours hes living in Lewisham and doing grand for a man of 138.
  6. If what you say is true Spangles, then obviously that is not very good at all. But please be aware they have only just opened up and often the new agents need time to get to know the job. I am not defending estate agents, far from it, but please dont be so quick to judge when they are offering 0%. I am pretty sure any estate agent would be just as busy.
  7. Oh no the commoners from Dog Kennel Hill end may start to use LL more often... We could be in for bumpy times fonson.. I hope you have your hard hat ready!
  8. I bet George Formby could bring my bay windows up a right treat.
  9. Well I must admit, i've been to a few towns outside of London where Tesco is literally a looming giant which blocks all competition. In Milton Keynes (pop. 305,000) they have three large stores along with at least 8 smaller local stores. Asda were prevented at every oppurtunity from buying up land to build a store, and Sainsburys were restricted to two small town centre stores. I am not a fan of Tesco and it's tactics, and as much as I dislike Sainsbury's, it remains dominant in it's spiritual home of London, and i'd like it to stay that way. I like the idea of another bar though Keef, i'd like to see a cocktail bar to rival that awful place down the road.
  10. We dont need another Tesco store Keef, there is one on EDR!
  11. Jah you're more than welcome to watch ;-)
  12. Do they sell ham and deli style meats ? I love my lincolnshire sausages too.
  13. I'm always 'accidently' leotarded up when a handsome stranger comes to clean those parts which dont often get touched :)
  14. Street party - thank god I live a few streets away from Upland Road or else i'd have been onto the council about people obstructing a public highway and causing noise pollution.
  15. A thread about the old Woolwich bank site was created ages ago, maybe this thread should be closed down?
  16. *Bob* you can clean my windows any day - and i'd always pay in advance ;-)
  17. I dont know what all the fuss was about - the place isnt anything special at all, even the young and trendy cant be arsed with the tat they have on offer.
  18. I dont need to scaremonger about Peckham bald marauder - I think most forumites know what a dump the place is! :)
  19. it's the same farmers market isnt it?
  20. kford - Just because you assume that everyone out their has embraced the digital age does not mean we no longer need face to face interaction on a high street. If we all completely embraced the internet we would not need to leave our homes. The death of traditional high street was accerated by the large supermerkets during the 1970's and 1980's, and now the online shopping age is ensuring that it completely snuffs it off for good. I do not know anyone who does internet banking, and I personally feel uncomfortable doing it and I like to travel to a secure branch and have a face to my banking. As I previously said, a lot of the older generation feel the same, and the closing of branches really isnt helping certain communities survive. Besides, most of the old Woolwich branches - Peckham and Sydenham being prime examples - have been turned into small Barclays branches to help cope with the new number of customers. I think the same needs to happen with the LL branch.
  21. Most of the people ive spoken to have had one browse and then never gone back cos it's bland and expensive. As for Kerry Katona and Lee Ryan Macro, I dont think knowing who they are or what they stand for would add any extra light on the matter. Best not to know me thinks (I'd like to think Blue is a far off country where magic takes place).
  22. Kerry Katona and Lee Ryan (whoever he is), wow now this really could put ED on the map!
  23. I'd rather go to the college one than risk my valuables going to the one in Peckham. :)
  24. NatWest are opening branches because of demand! We are an ageing population and just because younger people think it's great to shop online, perhaps they need to bare in mind that over half the population of this country is now 40+ and this figure is rising. I wish the site would be turned into a mini-Barclays because ever since the migration took place, all the old Woolwich customers are now flocking into the Barclays site and its impossible to get served unless you want to queue for hours on end or travel to the village branch. I never use the internet for banking, it's far too risky, and I enjoy the travelling into a branch, for some elderly people it's a highlight for their day (and I am not kidding!). I would not knock that block down either, the chemist is great and the staff are lovely. I also use Budgens and the betting office ocassionally. That row of shops I probably frequent more than any other in ED, especially in recent years!
