Well Sean i've already suggested putting more options on the menu like pies sausages and other deep fried delights, I am well aware of the cod stocks situation but surely thats an issue for the government and EU. I would personally be happy to see roe on the menu, is that included at this place? Louisa.

I do have high standards, and lets face it we're tlaking about a bloody chippy here *bob* not some al a carte menu in some fancypants restaurant. Fish and chips isnt that bloody difficult to get right is it? and this place seems to struggle at it, even though its charging through the nose lol Louisa.

Mark Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- The > owners of the Sea Cow go to Billingsgate market to > get their fish, then you can choose the fish from > the front counter how is that "pretending to be > fresh"? As I have pointed out on previous threads about this place, the fish is a standard across the board in UK fish and chip shops, I should know I come from a family of fishmongers. The fish here is no more fresh than any other in south London, and yes it no doubt has undergone the frozen treatment. It is also not just a matter of the freshness of the fish, but also how the fish is cooked and left to dry out and th quality of the batter. This place lacks all of the above. And don't forget that if the Sea Cow did > do pies and sausages then they would be competing > directly with Emilys and Semas, who may lose > customers, then maybe have to close What the hell are you going on about Mark? Competition is exactly what businesses thrive on, how on earth would it force athe other to closes, surely it would force them to up their game, as Seacow no doubt has to do to survive in its present woeful state. Good grief. > Louisa you don't half talk shite sometimes. And you claim I talk shite? LOL.. Louisa.

I think criticism where critiscism is due, and in this case this damned place should have been getting it months ago, but now everyone is bandwagon jumping I may as well join in and be seen to be "mean spirited" as Sean has pointed out. I personally think a chippie is a chippie, if you want to charge restaurant prices open up as Wheelers or some other fancy fish restaurant, dont sell standard fish and chips and give it some snobby label like this place has done. I dont see what the issue is with selling pies and fishcakes and sausages anyhow, surely thats what this type of take-away does? Maybe I grew up in some bizarre location which is completely different to everywhere else in the UK then. As for the standard of the food served *bob* well i'd rather eat at somewhere like Semas or Emilys where I know the food is fresh and doesnt pretend to be. Guys at Seacow, offer something a little more affordable and better quality and traditional, (you know, all the usual standards in creating a successful fish and chip take-away) and I may venture in. Louisa.

Coley is disgusting, I cant believe one of our national dishes is being scaled down to include this cheap tasteless fish. I've got a novel idea for you DanRigby and the others at Seacow, how about you start selling some decent fishcakes battered sausages savaloys and other delights that are common in most 'normal' chippies up and down the land, rather than aiming your food entirely at certain groups in society.

How come everyone is talking about the evils of gambling and yet it's ok for brand new organic off licences and trendy bars to open up in abundance along the lane? Double standards or what! Louisa.

Yes I mentioned this probably getting on for a year ago, rumours were bound that M&S Simply Food had bought the lease on two of the large retail units, but I have heard of nothing since and all info I got from M&S themselves was "no plans for any new stores in SE15/SE22", so who knows? Maybe another butcher or smelly fishmonger judging by the standard of Rye Lane? LOL Louisa.

I'd like to big up the roundabout by the EDT, it gets loads of grief from passing cars 24/7 365 days a year, especially in the past 40 to 50 years as traffic volume has increased and now its about to get some bizarre piece of architecture slapped on it, so come on guys let's big up ED's most famous roundabout and wish it well for the future. Louisa.

The Green - Goose Green - Closed Down.
Louisa replied to LibraCarr's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Another ponce hole thats gone - lol, I find it all very amsuing we are talking about places I told you were crap months and months ago! Yes Le Moulin needs a lick of paint, but guess what, it still remains open after all these years with a strong customer base and thats because the quality and value remain. All these poncey places aimed at wannabe yuppies end up down to earth within a few years. So predictable. Louisa. -
Peter Lorre would have a fight on his hands if it came to a talking competition - you cant shut Ahmet up once he starts talking, and the fish has usually gone cold by that point. Great place though (no pun intended), and fresh inexpensive food. As for that other place which now all of a sudden everyone is agreeing on to it being not very good, well I could have told you all this ages ago but some people dont listen. All that nonsesne about "it's much fresher they dont freeze their fish" was just laughable, even if thats true which I highly doubt, it still doesnt stop them from burning the batter and servivg semi warmed up food. Louisa.

Ladies and gents - I think we're missing the point here, at the end of the day (she says reluctantly), its a bloody burger, if it was a decent meal for ?20 fair enough, but come on now, who pays that for a burger goddamnit? Louisa.
-
It can also be your enemy char1ie as i've found out on two seperate ocassions now, hence why I now only visit a branch! Louisa.
-
i'd rather have someone scratch their unspoken region before serving my burger and chips than end up paying ?20 for a bit of meat between a split bun x2 thanks very much! Louisa.
-
this is very true, but lets face it.. These people who go to GBK dont go there cos they like burgers, they go there cos its expensive fashionable pretentious and out of the price range of the filth who prefer to eat a burger the way it was meant to be eaten! lol Louisa.
-
seanmlow, ?20 for two burgers and a plate of chips and two drinks... My god what is this world coming to? You could buy some decent burgers and potatoes and make that at home for less than a fiver.. I dont understand the fascination with what is basically just fast food at expensive prices. Go to Mcdonalds or Burger King if you want take-away style cheap food, dont go to a place thats pretentious and tries to make what is a simple inexpensive and relatively unhealthy food option sound like a dinner! Louisa.

Isnt it typical - something for the working classes decides to open and the organic brigade come out in force and claim there are too many bookies in the area. Well for me personally there is one too many of everything in the area including baby shops, restaurants and pointless boutiques. But they still continue to open and operate, lets just get on with it and accept it, as keef has already pointed out there is more than enough room for a variety of shops on LL. Happy New Year. Louisa.

Maurice has a few decent points I think. Why on earth has ED not got a Christmas tree with lights on somewhere like Goose Green roundabout? Dulwich is famously the Dickens location for the Pickwick Papers and rather than live upto the historical tie with this classic book and the festive ties with Dickens, Southwark Council would be happier wasting money on a crappy sculpture. How can we be proud of the area when it doesnt even make the effort half the time? Maybe ED should setup another borough all for itself. Louisa.

Announcement about the Goose Green fence
Louisa replied to Mark's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you think Dog owners tend to be irresponsible in the UK, maybe you should have a trip to certain other EU countries where the streets are absolutely smoothered in dog poo. France is a good example - much worse than any of the streets I can think of locally. I also think that again, dare I say it, this is probably a class issue again rearing it's ugly head. Goose Green was long used by sensible dog owners for years without a stupid boundary, and people took their kids onto the green during summer to kick a ball about and no fuss was made at all. The green was never very dirty and i'm afraid those of you who think that a little mess in a park is something to attend a public meeting over need to find something more constructive to do with your time! Since gentrification, the clapham brigade seem to think that any hint of a 'former working class neighbourhood' should be completely removed. This here is a good example of how the area has changed so much. I dont see this sort of fuss at Burgess Park or Nunhead Green. Louisa. -
Squashed in between White Stuff and the odd little 'gift shop', old skool Dulwich D.I.Y has been looking the worse for ware for sometime now since the whole gentrification process began. However, walking down the lane earlier, I noticed some signage people outside with a pair of ladders and a nice big van taking down the old sign. Anyone else seen this?

Animal abuse on Peckham Rye! (dogs tied up outside cafe) Lounged
Louisa replied to James's topic in The Lounge
I agree, walking the dog is one thing, but leaving them outside a cafe in the pouring rain is not something you would want done to yourself so why do it to another animal. It's equally as bad when I see dogs locked in cars on a hot summers day, or left tied up outside without any drinking water. Some very irrresponsible pet owners in this world. -
A little late I know i'm sorry - but I just wanted to remind everyone about the fact it was world AIDS day on december the 1st, and I think in 2007 a lot of people seem to have forgotten how this devestating virus has destroyed lives and torn apart communities around the globe. I think it needed a mention on here, and I was wondering if anyone had any interesting contributions on the subject. Is enough being done to help third world countries? Are kids here being informed of the dangers involved in unsafe sex? Is the stigma of having the virus still continuing to isolate individuals from their families and communities? And will there ever been a final cure for the HIV virus? Louisa.

I actually felt very sorry for the elderly lady as she was trying her best to grab the dog but it was a fast mover and she couldnt get it on her own. Yes it was probably not a well trained dog and she should not have been in charge of it on a walk but she was trying her hardest under the circumstances so I think this is maybe why, in answer to Frisco, the other lady did not appear to want to report the incident. The other lady held the her small dog high in the air to help prevent this other dog from attacking but it kept jumping up at her violently, and at one point managed to attach itself to the other dog with a bite, hence the loud yelp. It was this that was probably the most distressing moment for everyone involved in the incident. It was only a small dog that was doing the damage and it seemed bizarre at first, and had this not been an elderly lady in charge of the other dog I am sure a lot of people, myself included, would been happy to press charges or persue this further. Luckily the dog was brought under control in the end.

Myself and another individual helped, but there was easily a crowd of 20 people just standing by watching. I was walking along the path towards the incident at the middle gate towards the centre of the green. My point is why does it take myself and one other person out of 20+ to actually do something, and why on earth did the police officer who could clearly hear this incident remain handing out his ticket? Asset please do not try and further investigate my version of events, I posted this thread rather angrily this afternoon and didnt get across all the details in the manner I would have prefered, but I am sure you get the drift of the story here. Two people intervened, when in fact this would not have been an incident at all if a larger crowd had got involved to help out, and more importantly the police officer.
-
I was the other person who helped! I went across first and then after a while a man came along to help remove the other dog. I was trying to make sure the child was ok because the small dog was yelping and it was obviously distressing the toddler. Honestly I could not understand why it took so long for anyone to help.
