Yilmaz was closed down because they have a take away over on Peckham Rye at the top end of Rye Lane. Louisa.

Moving to Fenwick Road - off East Dulwich Road
Louisa replied to Jenni's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
PR as Sean has already pointed out, I did not in any way at all over step the mark. I never suggested it was a working class problem I just pointed out that those flats attracted gangs of kids of an evening and it COULD be rather intimidating to some people. Jenni I do appologise for PR's rather ignorant attitude, obviously not aware that I am one of the few people on EDF who does stand up for the rights and values of the settled working class community in ED. East Dulwich to Greenwich on Foot or Bicycle?
Louisa replied to Jenni's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The best cycle route is to head down towards Nunhead along EDR, and then do a right at the traffic lights and head up over the speed bumps past Nunhead cemetary and then over the bridge into Brockley. Then head over a few mini roundabouts near Sharellows RD past a used car place on a corner then do a left at the top and head towards the lights and Friendly Street. Very scenic route indeed. This takes you down to the bottom of Friendly then swing a left past the old lunatic asylum and head past Lewisham College campus near the Docklands light railway and then another left at the next set of lights and down towards Greenwich at the bottom of the RD. Moving to Fenwick Road - off East Dulwich Road

I once lived on Fenwick and it is actually a very safe street down the bottom end towards Amott and Nutbrook, but up the other end can be rather intimidating at night with gangs of kids hanging around outside those dreadful flats. It's not as safe as some of the streets closer to LL but as long as you arnt walking after about 9 at night and dont carry around any obvious bits and bobs like mobile or handbag then you'll be fine. *Bob* I genuinely have not had the time recently and before that had just forgotten, I guess when you live in an area for so long you just make presumptions that things will be the same forever (and they were until about 8 to 10 years ago), so never felt the need to venture in. As you quite rightly point out, the regulars are dwindling slowly and perhaps it will be forced into a makeover, but I think traditional boozers are becoming so rare in London now, that eventually there qill come a point when the few that remain do excellent trade with people come far and wide to experience it. Louisa.

*Bob* I've not been in the CPT for a long time, but I remember it from days of old (my dad was a regular for nearly 40 years) and to be honest it has hardly changed at all in that time. I think it remains just a decent normal pub, something seriously lacking locally now. Louisa.

I've lived here all my life and whenever I am up the West End I always say "take me to Goose Green please", and then they take the shortest route back to ED because they know you will question them otherwise. I've always done it. On the topic of them not stopping well, a good friend of Mr Louisa and myself is a black cabbie and hes been doing it for 30 years plus and he tells us that 95% of cabbies will now take you "sarf of the river" and the best place to be when asking for them to do so is EAST of trafalgar square heading down Pall Mall up towards Waterloo bridge. Louisa.

MadWorld74 no offence but your a bit of a snob, and fair play to you for wanting to drink wine in public houses (freak), but the fact remains some of the ordinary non pretentious people in ED do actually like to go into a decent boozer where it's down to earth and not full of picky wine drinkers who think that they're in the south of France drinking in some fancy restaurant rather than sat outside a boozer in south London in the middle of january with car fumes choking them to death. Whilst I am on the topic of snobs and pubs which arnt worth a caret, take a look at the website for the gastrohellhole which carries the great name of the Palmerston (gone but not forgotten) - http://www.thepalmerston.net/ (also a link for the herne's website, must be same people who have taken them over). Louisa.
-
Sorry I meant to say, in stead of "poncey foodies", interesting middle class people who wont eat food unless it has some rocket and is dressed up like a dogs dinner. My mistake! Louisa.
-
The Palmerston may as well have another name now. It has lost it's pub like atmosphere and is full of poncey foodies. The interior should be changed to stop me from walking past and every so often forgetting how crap the pubs in ED have become, and almost walking across the threshold into what still looks like a boozer. Louisa.

Shut yer cakehole. Louisa.

Oh goodness me have I missed out on a class debate? *rolls eyes* I think it's funny that some of the newcomers to ED dont even know what half of us are talking about (references to the Blame painting on side of Goose Green house)... It just shows that ignorance goes both ways. PreferToRemainAnon get your facts right before you jump into a debate about something you obviously have never seen or know anything about LOL. Louisa.

Ordered! Just like your name sake the Roman Emperor! Louisa.

Favourite pub, well there isnt so many to choose from now that they've all been Claphamised but, i'd say that the best ED drinking hole is probably the CPT, although I still have a soft spot for the Castle because Mary is such a lovely lady. Louisa.
-
Blame me I ordered it to be done. Sorry. Louisa.

Dulwich already has a Starbucks, Nero is at least a British owned chain. It's overpriced and not my cup of tea (pardon the inexcusable), but having said that it has a nice shop front and puts life into the lane. So go forth and muliply my chain friend. :) Louisa.

Paul you've won me over you charmer, I shall pop in for lunch later this week. I think i've already pointed out after having read the menu, prices arnt exactly dramatic so i'll give you a wee taste test. I expect a Louisa seal of approval above the door by friday. Louisa. ps i'm into real ales and rose wine ;-)
-
egg, face, mark, sorry, childish. Louisa.

Go and eat some fancy fish at Seacow you devil, you know you want to be a cut above the rest ;-) Louisa.
-
Goodness me SimonM what on earth are you suggesting! :-S Asset what on earth are you talking about? I'm lost. Louisa.

I have NEVER had an issue parking at the Sainsbury's car park, until December 28th 2007 in the mid afternoon. I was horrified to see people dodging queues and being ignorant towards fellow car park users by driving like maniacs. I very rarely choose to shop at Sainsburys as I feel i'm being ripped off half the time, but when I last did I was horrified. I prefer ASDA in Clapham these days. Not often do you find a cheap arse historically northern store with a choice of toilet rolls. Louisa.

The facts are this place isnt special, it's a normal chippie take-away trying to be different by buying 'fresh' and charging a wee bit more at the counter and offering a snobbed up menu to entice in those who see standard chippies as being beneath them. Louisa.
-
Asset how about you get into the real world rather than changing topic to put me down - you can run but you cant hide from the facts my dear :) BTW *bob* I went private to get the Iceland's snack removed from my famous region, and it was so much better than kings. Louisa.
-
Not all Mark, maybe in London but certainly not in other places i've been to..
-
Right for me is that I can sleep at night knowing i've not broke the bank on a crappy take-away which should be perfect anyway. It's always been a cheap and cheerful treat that you shouldnt have to travel out of your way to get hold of. I've been to Ollie's before and to be honest I was not overly impressed with the fish, so have never gone back. Clearly you have had a more positive culinary adventure at this establishment *bob*.
