The new-look Forest Hill Tavern (I)
Louisa replied to Chantoozie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
NOT THE FHT! cant these yuppies leave anything alone? -
Fast forward Dulwich late May 2008 : White Stuff packed full of dull city workers looking for some dull casual wear to dull up their dull lives Some sort of boutique-style show shops next to WS, selling overpriced womens shoes and toddler shoes I can see the three-wheeled buggy brigade walking up the lane on mass as I type, pushing common folk and elderly people out of their path .. I think the Harry Enfield clip of the guy with a antiques shop in London sums this all up quite nicely ;-)

I cant stand the taste of coffee anyhow, so why the hell we need so many of the damn places I have no idea.
-
Why oh why on god's earth do we need yet another bloody coffee shop, chain or independent! I actually now wish we did have some high street names lining LL, because at least we might get some variety then!

The Plough was once a great family pub, I have some wonderful memories of it, however the refurb done by the "just so pub company" in 1996, ripped the heart out of the place, and turned it into a wetherspoons style pub and not the spit and sawdust as claimed by many on here.. I would like to see the place return to what it was, but I fear with all these posh folk round here now, it will no doubt carry on as a heartless middle class drones gastropub.. It's so sad the way ED is going..

I think it would be lovely if a small inner city farm was setup on one end of the green, with perhaps a small duck pond or something.. Goose Green is very historic, it's a shame it goes to waste as it is..

rob the spam was specially flown in from burton on trent for me, but sadly they had run out of oranges, and compromise isnt my style :)

Well, it's in a nice location, pretty surrounding, and I had just jumped off the bus outside and was dying for a BLT with chips. I just hate being disappointed so often around ED.. Next time I shall stick to buying some soft rolls at the bakers I think!
-
forget childrens wear shops, I would love to see Ann Summers opening up along the lane!

The herne is absolutely atrocious, went in for lunch back in january hoping for something nice to eat, and after being told they didnt have two items I have requested from the menu, I was then forced to sit a table which had not been cleared or cleaned and so was forced to remove items myself and then after some effort get a member of the bar staff to get around to cleaning the table. The sandwich and chips I ordered was ok but nothing special, and the place was packed full of yummies.. I'd go back if I got a discount, but otherwise, NO!!

I remember the Oglander in the 1980's, and it was in the dying days of the traditional London boozer... Lots of characters, a piano (which was often played by uncle charlie)... roast potatoes and crisps on the bar of a sunday.. I think what destroyed the place was well, the death of half of the old timers who had been going there for years, and the isolation felt by many when it was sort of turned into a pub type tapas thing... It didnt pick a direction and go in it... oh well, bring on the flats I guess :(

The idea of loud banging music in ED makes me very sad... i'd rather be forced to listen to Cliff Richards best of album all day 24/7..

I'd like to see a decent solicitors along LL.. I hate having to travel to Crystal Palace all the time :(

things I dislike about modern East Dulwich

There is way on this earth I will use my bike in London, when I stay at my sisters up in Buckinghamshire it's a lot safer as there are designated bike lanes which cover a large expanse, here in London that really isnt the case. The amount of money us motorists pay on road tax and parking fines amongst other things like MOT and insurance, I think we deserve a place to park our car when we go out shopping, especially older people and ones with kids. -

i have no problem with the pram/buggy.. it's just the driver that tickles my funny bone! -
I dont keep chickens but I keep ducks.. well they're not really mine, but my neighbour has what can best be described as a mini lake in the back garden.. it attracts all sorts of wildlife.. including Noel Edmunds on ocassion!

Alan "because mum's are heroes" I wont need to worry - I can hop on the back of a three-wheeled buggy and hide under the hood from the bullets - perhaps i'll make it back to ED in one piece with my arctic roll intact! -

Egg based outrage at EDD...now quite scared

This chap sounds god awful, and I now wish that the famous charity shop had never closed down! I dont need any overpriced items thanks, especially when it's being sold by some bawdy fat freak who thinks his shop is fantabulous! -

capt_birdseye I thought you had "righly" chosen not to take the stereotype route earlier! Anyhow, well done, you've shown me exactly what the issue is round here, those pesky working class mcockney buggers! I knew it all the long.. with their bags full of frozen food from Iceland and their common cheap clothing from Primark in Peckham... It's amazing, but once someone points out a stereotype, it all becomes clear what the problem is!! :) -

Huguenot - The poor folk are a little stupid, perhaps you could give them a pearl of wisdom by having a yummy versus poor person buggy race up in ED park.. I'm sure the yummies would triumph, after all, they know best! :) -

Well luckily for you capt_birdseye there are very few chavs and or cockneys in this area now, they seem to have been outpriced by the yummy brigade - so the chances of that happening to you are pretty rare.. As for the use of a stereotype, well strertypes would not exist if they held no truth, so I dont see a problem in using them to make a point. As I have already stated, this sort of thing happens to me a lot in ED, and yet when I am in areas like Peckham or Lewisham it very rarely happens, hence use of the stereotype on these three-wheeled-buggy-more-money-than-sense types. -

bawdy I just get rather angry with the way people seem to have lost the ability to think about others and just selfishly act without thinking. The number of times I have seen parents who just completely ignore people in and around ED, almost as if they dont actually exist! I have even stepped aside once or twice to be nice to these people, and these two yummy types were walking along talking to one another in that rather annoying home counties way, and they completely ignored the fact I had stopped to let them pass... They even saw me and looked directly at me.. Now this sort of thing seems to happen more often than not to me, and I just find it really bloody rude..
