There is a large sign on the Dog Kennel Estate (Denmark Hill) which says ''1 & 2 Bedroom refurbished flats for sale - by Southwark Council''with some Estate Agent details. How can Southwark be selling flats?, is there no one on the housing list needing 1 or 2 bedroom flat? Also why are they using Estate Agents - which means they will be paying Agents a commission? Is it just me or is there something wrong her....................

We lived in the Walworth Rd area during the war, got bombed out on about 5 occasions, went to every school in the area (due to bomb damage!) we had an Anderson Shelter, my Dad grew marrows on the roof, some of them got shrapnel wounds! They did taste fantastic though, mind you there wasn't much choice around! At the start of the war my Mum made us go into the shelter every night, she would take the tin box with all the 'valuables' in, though they wouldn't have been valuable to anyone else! As the war went on we went down less and less except one night during the V1's (or V2's)my Mum insisted we all went down the Shelter, and low and behold the house came down, though the V bomb came down quite a way a way, haven't Mums got fantastic intuition when it comes to their kids safety. Though War can be a terrible thing, as a kid growing up during that time, it was fantastic fun for a young boy, the bomb sites were great playgounds, we reinacted all the great battles of the time, collected shrapnall, had our own little Gangs (very different from Gangs today). I had my first kiss on top of a pile of rubble, yes we had girls in our Gang, though when we were younger we hadn't realised girls were different and as we began to notice they were different they left our gang and became young ladies who didn't want to play with us! I was evacuated on two occasions (and thats a whole different story...) but my mum came and got me on both occasions as she felt if any one of us was going to die we would all die together, she was worried that if she died who would look after us, being 'in care' in those days was very different.

Well what with my visits to see my Bank Manager and Accountant, and of course reading the Financial Times, and catching up with my old work mates - Fred Goodwin and the like (we like to have a laugh about the old days at the Bank - and how grateful we are to the British tax payer) I don't have much time to get to the Ivy for lunch but i could pencil something in...........................

No T-Mobile coverage in ED today
Freddy1929 replied to Cassius's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have had problems all week with my T-mobile reception/signal,I'm at Goose Green end of Lordship Lane, thought it was my old mobile telling me I needed to buy a new one! thanks for this information, I have promised to stop dropping my mobile and will take more care of it so it lasts a bit longer(and to stop loosing it around my flat - but don't worry all I have to do is phone it from my landline and I can find it!!) -
Labour candidates in East Dulwich
Freddy1929 replied to Oliver Kempton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I am willing to give Labour a chance, the Lib Dems with a lot of help from the Tory contingent, have not really done much for the majority of people in Southwark. The whole business over the fence on Goose Green resulted in a lot of money being spent, just so dogs could have the run of the whole park! The money that must have been spent on the Council's new headquarters in Tooley Street needs to be looked at; the Lib Dems argument is that the buildings that are now empty can be sold, well in a recession, this is highly unlikely. Also what is the cost of the Tooley Street Offices? All the staff get free teas and coffees!!! Try and get an answer from one of the LIB Dem candidates. I feel sorry for the Council staff who don?t work at Tooley street, they seem to have been forgotten, and they are the ones providing a service directly to us Council tax payers, and from what I can see are working in some very dilapidated buildings, and apparently when they go to Tooley Street their passes won?t get them into the building!! It seems the Lib Dems want to go back to the old days of a two tier structure for Council staff. -
Will someone please explain to me what the attraction is in eating sushi, I must admit it looks lovely, but it tastes revolting, I have tried it several times and they all taste the same!! fishy......

Am I so long in the tooth now that I'm just a rebel!! ''borrow'' a few of the ''road closed'' signs that are around ED at the moment and just put them at either end of your street/road!!! Result - street closed!!!
