  1. Great idea!! points for how many organic joints you get from WR.....Can't see any other use for this but I bet everyone looks for their house!! just to let you know I'm taking down my nets today and WILL wash them..... and I will clear my front soon....
  2. WOW - people who understand computers definetly have their own language - to think when I was a kid telephones were rare! Only Mrs Double had a phone in our street, it was a white one, and she kept in in her window on it's own table!!
  3. I think he is doing about 40 concerts at the O2, I'll take bets on him canceling some.... and I'm totally in agreement with ibilly99, I think the jury were star struck, as were the OJ simpson jury. it is sad to say that in America, if you are rich you can get away with some things (the guy who pleaded guilty this week to a massive fraud, is the exception that proves the rule - but then he did scam the rich!!)
  4. intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Miss Corkindale and Miss Wheeler - remember them > well! Didn't Miss Wheeler play netball for England? I remember going to Wembley indoor arena to see a match - all those girls screaming!! we were deaf when we went home!!
  5. I have read in several papers over the last months about a new Govenment data base of children's details (I think this is came out of the Victoria Clumbie enquiry) called Contact point. Can we trust this Government with data? especially children's.... What are they going to keep on it? How is the information going to be collected? Who will have access? I'm sure some of you out there have an opinion.............................

Not weird at all - a very nice thing to do, I'm sure their families would have appreciated that years later they have not been forgotten, I haven't been to Nunhead for years, but will go next week and say a hello myself.....
  7. Does anyone remember Miss Corkindale the PE Teacher - I think she married an American and went to live in the States?

Pouring drinks in to handbags does save smudged makeup!! sensible girls - obviously they were not THAT bothered about the bloke!!
  9. I was at Honor Oak when it was a Grammar School early sixties, after I left it joined up with Frien. One of my memories is playing netball or tennis in those loverly grounds, and there being several men in raincoats along the fence watching us, we thought it was a great laugh, the Teachers never called the Police or even told them to go away!! My how things have changed!! We played Tennis with Wilsons Boys Grammar school, I think they thought as they were Grammar boys we would be safe!! Little did they know!! it was the boys who wern't safe!! What fun!! Miss Hutchins was the needlework teacher, she was a terror, but I still remember the things she taught me!! I can make a suit! Does anyone remember Mrs Ward the History Teacher, she wore Chanel suits, married to a local Chemist, studied History in Italy, was the most amazing Teacher, Miss Wilson for Maths another teacher who was so frightening. Mrs Clark, English Teacher, Madame Harris taught French and Russian, wore a lot of chiffon, and when my Daughter went to Prendergast School in the 70's there she was again! and did not look any older. Remember the music house, were the poor girls would have violin lessons at lunch time, I had to have elocution lessons, I think Miss Gibbs thought they could remove my very south London accent!!
  10. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Freddy, Jones and Higgins demise was the end of > Rye Lane lol - and from memory I dont think the > place had a restaurant or a ladies hat > department! > > Louisa. Dear Louise first what does LOL mean??keep seeing it not sure what it means? and secondly J&H did have a restaurant I'm talking about the 50's and also a hat department about the same time, I'm sure you are much too young to remember that far back!!!
  11. I walked past the dream Machine last night, loads of people outside, what a buzz!! It was always interesting to see the place develop over the last months, though I couldn't venture down as my Zimmer wouldn't let me, and I think the music was too modern for me (I know, I know - but the Beatles are modern to me - I am that old!) Back to Dream Machine - with all this corporate nonsense we have now it's nice to see something 'off the wall' 'out of the ordinary' 'independent' what ever the latest jargon is, become popular. Good luck at the Half Moon, I may come along, what with my free bus pass, and the pubs access I'll be able to come for a pint.......
  12. Great poem - I bet more people have read it on EDF than brought the book!!
  13. Passed on the bus this evening - seen the sheep/ram at last!! can save the cost of a new pair of glasses!!
  14. Looked this morning - can still see the wolf - but were is the ram? Do I need to go and get new glasses..............
  15. PUT THE FENCE BACK!!
  16. I LOVED THE FENCE!!!
  17. Thanks for this!! I went past on the 176 bus late one evening this week - and I thought I had too many sasperillas again!!Now I know what Southwark Council did with the fence they took down from Goose Green.
  18. Thanks for this!! I went past on the 176 bus late one evening this week - and I thought I had too many sasperillas again!!Now I know what Southwark Council did with the fence they took down from Goose Green (better than making a Spitfire out of them!!)
  19. What has Southwrk done with the fence? you don't think they are going to be melted down to make Spitfires?.....
  20. I'm old enough to remember the early days of the NHS, and concessions the Government of the day made to doctors to ensure they joined the NHS. Mind you I did think at the time where were they going to get their Patients from if they didn't join the NHS!!, there are only so many people able, or prepared to pay for medical care, also from my experience the working class have much more interesting ailments!!!. Reading this discussion about GP's and premium lines, makes my heart sink, the NHS was set up with many promises ''Cradle to Grave'' and ''Free at the Point of Delivery'' and all that, and some things have been eroded, with the introduction of prescription charges, dental charges etc.. but to hear about GP's making money out of their patient?s calls is obscene, but as one GP told me, not that many years ago that he was a business man first and GP second, I bet Nye Bevan is turning in his grave?????..
  21. Ah Jones & Higgins, were would be without them, I do love to pop in for my haberdashery bits in the morning, and visit the restaurant for a light lunch of Steak and kidney pie followed by spotted dick and custard. A look around the hat departement in the afternoon, always on the look out for something to wear to the WI meeting........If Jones & Higgins ever closed it would be the end of Rye Lane............
  22. The latest scuttlebutt re: the old store at the Plough is that it will become a 99p Store. The owners shrewdly anticipating that the nouvaux poor of East Dulwich can travel incognito for their downgraded goods. Ofcourse they will use their waitrose bags for life which they picked up in Bromley before the credit crunch.
  23. Hi The Walmer Castle and Adam and Eve both use to do fantastic lunches in the 60's. My Grandad worked at the AEU building on the corner of Lyndhurst Way, and as a kid would meet him for lunch, the Adam and Eve did the best Bakewell Tart I have ever tasted. The fish and chips at the Walmer were also so memorable.....Also going into a Pub was such a treat then, as kids were allowed in for food (as long as you were on your best behaviour)such memories.........................
  24. Hi contact Southwark Council 0207525000 for collection of any large bulk waste, including fridges, and it's FREE, they give you a time they'll collect and if you are disabled or elderly they will arrange to carry it down stairs.....we are lucky in Southwark, other Councils charge, Bromley in particular send someone round to do an estimate first!! and you have to pay the invoice before they'll collect!! We all complain sometimes about Southwark but this service is Gold Standard!!!!!
  25. When ever I smell a steam train it evokes memories of Kings Cross station when I was small and going to Doncaster to see my Grannie and Granddad. For my 50th Birthday my partner took me for a trip on the Orient Express for the day, it was pulled by the Flying Scotsman, the food was fantastic too!!! We went to Salisbury to see the Cathedral, while we were waiting on the platform for the Train to return, there was a group of youngsters all trying to be very cool, ipods and mobiles in their hands, as soon as they saw the steam train the lads turned into little boys and got all excited in seeing a steam train and started to take photos with their mobile phones!! Thomas the tank engine is still keeping the romance of steam alive, thank goodness!!
