  1. If you do need a builder in Ealing, get in touch with my dad (see weblink) who lives near Ealing Broadway. Ealing's my old stamping ground, if you need any local info, drop me a PM and i'll tell you some of my favourite places!
  2. The Plough is fine as long as you avoid the food. It has been consistently disappointing since the new ownership last year. However, when I have complained, I have received a full refund with no quibbles. I also agree the staff are friendly, in my experience so far. Aside from that, the pub quiz and the mum and babes clubs are worth checking out.

Try the pizza man in Peckham's indoor market on Rye Lane. He really does do the finest, thinnest and yummiest pizzas in SE London for about ?3.50. Bargain and an undiscovered culinary gem of Peckham.
  4. I love the food at Dragon Castle, but when I ate there recently with 6 friends, 2 felt headachey and pukey afterwards and were convinced the food was laden with MSG.
  5. I'd only go for a drink there if they do pork scratchings and Nobby's Nuts
  6. Ganapati South Indian restaurant on Holly Grove in Bellenden Road (Peckham) is fantastic and has an extensive veggie selection. As is La Luna on Walworth Road. Lovely Italian food at reasonable prices. The restaurant is nothing flash, but the food is really great and staff are lovely. I've heard good things about Si Mangia but haven't tried it. Not really that impressed by any of the restaurants in East Dulwich, not at the prices they charge for sometimes quite average food.
  7. Shame to hear that the shop is closing, but Review bookshop on Bellenden Road is fantastic for kid's books
  8. I'd be up for some 80s classics. How about 'The Karate Kid'? And I agree that ?7.50 is a bit steep but that's Dulwich prices for you!
  9. Here's a map of all the free wi-fi spots in London. I added a few Peckham places a while ago, but it would be great if the ED places could get added to it. Londonist Free Wifi Spots
  10. Meadway are also very good. Same price range as Addison Lee and the cars are nice, drivers are friendly.

Went to the quiz night at the Plough yesterday for the first time which was pretty good, i think i'll be going back to that. However, the food is still diabolical at the pub, they've just not got that right since the new owners gave the place a laurence llewellyn-bowen-style makeover :( On the plus side, they did give a refund for our dodgy meal.
  12. There's a good little cobblers in the indoor market in Peckham on Rye Lane if you fancy the long hike over there!
  13. The top end of Barry Road is rife with moths too. I've got loads of pheromonal moth traps dotted around the house. I like to do a daily survey of the moth traps and watch the little buggers fluttering to their death stuck to the sticky piece of paper. I only take such delight in their demise as they have chewed through a couple of wool tops since I've been living here.
  14. Maybe Gourmet Burger Kitchen can start offering a cheap, processed, spam-like McD-style burger on their menu? Seems like there would be some takers for it. HonaloochieB - what about a Wendy's? I used to love those when I was a nipper. Can't remember if they had real crockery though.
  15. My favourite local chap is the man with the fantastic mullet in the DIY shop opposite the station. He's not an odd character as far as I know, but his hair is totally bonkers.
  16. I use some moth traps that are pretty good - you can buy them from SMBS. I think they are called 'Mottlock'
  17. Have you looked into the childcare offered by Southwark Council. It's at the Thomas Calton Day Care Centre in Peckham and if you contact them now, the list should be open for September 2008 and onwards. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/YourServices/educationandlearning/AdultLearning/creche.html
  18. Barclays were quick at investigating and refunding the cash from fraudulent activity on my account, about a week I think. Citibank, however, were useless and never refunded anything :(
  19. We've got lots of newts in our pond. Perhaps not that unusual for anyone who's got a pond, though!
  20. I've emailed a couple of times about placing an ad on the site, but haven't had a reply. Would be good if you could send me the advertising rates. thank you!
  21. It would be a bit rude to call someone a "pretend doctor" just because they look a bit trendy and wear high heels.
  22. The post office a few doors down from the Plough in the back of a newsagents on LL is particularly handy.
  23. I'm just off to do some shopping in Peckham in a bit. Can anyone advise on what protective gear I should wear?
  24. Cycling would be my preferred route, although I'd go for the buses, just leave enough time to do the journey at rush hour. Much cheaper than the tube or the trains. And less stressful! I always found the trains at ED and Peckham a bit of an unholy scrum in the mornings.
