  1. Thanks very much for the reply, I'll ask my 2 girls (aged 12 and 14) if they are interested after school today. regards Mike
  2. What happened to Canon Richardson? He was "removed from Eclesiastical duties" for reasons unknown and then tragically took his own life yet no-one talks about it? A good friend of mine lives v near and all questions regarding property isues etc are being passed to the Diocese and there is no information forthcoming. Why?
  3. How odd, 1st post as well, nothing b4 or after just raving about a new place! stinks really!
  4. YUp, lost internet/tv for about 2 hours last night, from 10.30 to 12.30am. hardly peak time for work though is it so can't complain really. Cable is so much better/faster/relible than sky et all.
  5. horrific, in a word. I live on Tarbert road and walk to pick my girls up from DHJS. as a result the parking doesn't effect me. However cars being to park on our road from 3.00pm, and its full by 3.20. hillsborough rd is full before then. cycle in, walk in but pleasse don't drive.
  6. Hi, My kids school (DHJS) is looking for a choir to sing at their Christmas fair on the 14th Dec. Unfortunatly the choir i'm with(Note-Orious) is unable to do it so I was wondering whether there were any other choirs in the area who might be interested? There is no money involved, but mince pies, mulled wine will be provided.
  7. Have to agree re self defense classes, esp for ladies. In my experience they give a false sense of security. The real world isn't like a nice safe class where every body wears pads and says sorry if they hurt you, however unintentionally. In reality most people, and I include men in this, have never been hit by anyone with intent to cause real pain. The shock of actually being punched in the head/face/groin etc causes the person to go into shock. They stop thinking. This is why the military train so hard, to stop one going into shock and keep oneself thinking. Best adive is to be aware of your surroundings and if one feels uncomfortable in any way either head for a shop/cafe etc where people are or in extremis make a lot of noise, no one likes noise, and use anything that comes to hand, aiming at groin, eyes, throat. be safe people.
  8. Warning There is a young man, age approx 10-12, and his younger sister, age approx 8-10, visiting houses in the area with a sponsor form from Honor Oak Amateur Boxing Club, claiming that he is raising money for the club by doing a 5 mile run. He visited my house last night and my partner checked with the club's secretary, John Atkinson, who gave her a description of the boy and told her that he has been using the form to extort money from generous homeowners since last August. Both the children are white, the boy has short cropped mousey hair, the girl has long straight brown hair, and their most distinctive feature is their noses; they have both been born without fully developed noses. Do not allow your empathy for these children persuade you to give them money up front, looking at the form I would say the young man earnt more in an hour than your average teacher, and it doesn't go to the club, and I doubt that these children get to keep the money either. My partner took the form from the boy so that he could not defraud our neighbours, but it was obviously photocopied, so he'll be out with another one soon. She didn't think to take a picture of him at the time, which would have been useful. The police have been informed.
  9. Sorry VillagerId but that's crap, no-one has done anything on the sly, there have been 4 meetings, each attended by about 50 to 60 people who actually bothered to turn up, and express their opinions rather than moan and bitch about it, without actually bothering to turn up.
  10. Does anyone have a contact re tetra-pak recyling? Can't we contact tetra-pak themselves(though we know it's pointless) Anyway, whilst our recycling is devided, more or less, having asked one of the council refuse team blokes he said it all goes in the truck and is sorted there, so why bother sorting it ourselves if the recycle truck itself doesn't differentiate?
  11. 9 of the 1914 team died at the Somme, tragic
  12. Hi Kitwhitfield, (is that Kit then?) Do you have a way of complaning to someone rather than Lee or whome ever. He obviously doesn't give a damm so can we contact someone who does. I would say his manager but I suspect it goes deper than that. I too work from home and have lost count of the times one of these little calling cards have fluttered through my door. Can we flood the por guys mail with complaints? or maybe call a TV company to do an expose? I do hate being told I'm out, when I'm not ::o cheers
  13. *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The 'respect' thing is interesting. > > Why do people wear black at funerals? the truth is > that you wear black because that's what everyone > else will be wearing, because you don't want to > stick-out like a sore thumb and because you don't > want people glaring at tutting at you. That may be your reason, but black is one of the European colours of mourning, witness state funerals etc. It was used by both the Egyptians and Romans, though not the Greeks. In South Africa, Red is used, in Iran, Blue.
  14. indeed, Bob, freedom comes in many flavours, all (ok most)of them equally valid. we watched on TV and I was able to pass on my thoughts to my 2 girls in a way I believed they could understand.
  15. if he crashed into your rear, so to speak, were you stopped at a crossing, lights or somesuch? otherwise if you've stopped on a road, i'm not sure wether you are both wrong. he for not stopping " at the scene of an accident" and you for stopping in the middle of the road, in the first place. Also you have written that "We were going up one-way streets the wrong way and everything." and I've no idea how the old bill might regard this behaviour. regards
  16. Hi all, Does anyone know if there is some kind of memorial in ED on rememberence Sunday which nicely is on the correct day this year. I would like to take my oldest to a service with flags, poppies etc so she can feel local history. cheers
  17. Hi all, just in case you were unaware ! there are 2 Dulwich boys playing in Paris tonight, Nick Easter and Andy Sheridan, both played for Dulwich college 1st XV as schoolboys. makes it personal doesn't:))
  18. The Chardon is over priced, over rated, poor quality French motorway food. Somehow they belive that being French is enough, they wouldn't last 5 seconds in France and shouldn't last that long here. It's not as though there arn't any other options.
  19. got to say, we've been going to the upstairs at EDT for some time and were getting fed up with the same menu again and again. we went again on the 28/09/07 with freinds and had a ball. New menu, some new staff and good food. no complaints here, ok one tiny one, the bar area didn't seem to do cocktails which though I personally regard them as an abonination, seemed odd. cheers
  20. Any lawyers on list? How does the law stand on measures to protect your property? Is it down to what is 'reasonable' Crushed glass is effective but electrickery perhaps not! Personally I'd run a cable on top of the wall connected to a car battery (as farmers have done for years)I'd assume conecting it to the national grid might cause 'issues' shall we say
  21. yup, no problem, call Jason Height at 07985 623 271. you can mention me, Mike Usiskin though he may well double his prices :)) cheers
  22. Sorry but since when does poetry have to rhyme?
