  1. Hi Richard tudor, Short answer yes. Could be tricky if house divided into flats and some flat occupants want one and other don't. But lets cross that bridge when it occurs.
  2. We're trying to get them placed outside people who have requested them. Lambeth now has over 150 of these installed. Southwark is aiming for another 89 to add to 11. With the right scale this could become a strategic transport project and that is the angle I've taken with council officials. With regard to attractiveness. Lambeth in some cases have bookened them with street streets in the road. Seems a great way of doing it.
  3. Hi first mate, When a request for BikeHangar is received officers assess where best to place it and I will ensure when they suggest locations in East Dulwich ward that I ask they have considered this. Thanks for the suggestion first mate. NB. all council tax payers pay for our local roads. Of the 5,250 homes in the ward have collectively 3,276 cars. No roads in East Dulwich are paid for by anything other than Southwark Council. We have no controlled parking to support these maintenance costs. So if a resident wants to park a bicycle in a BikeHangar and that will encourage them to cycle more often then it seems only fair - as they contribute an equal amount via Council Tax for road maintenance as any neighbouring resident who parks a car - that we support them. But we clearly need to maximise how efficiently we do this. Across London 1% of transport budgets support cycling facilities but they make up a much higher proportion of all journeys than this.
  4. Hi pebs, To get a CycleLockers/BikeHangars as per attached picture - send me an email. Sotuhwark is looking for locations to place these on streets and TfL have said if all 89 new BikeHnagers are used they'll probably fund more. These are only placed as a result of resident demand. So please demand one for where you live!
  5. Hi Nattaliec, As a local councillor I used to get several complaints a year. I'd complain to Royal Mail and it seemed to get a little better. But with the removal of early morning post deliveries I no longer get any complaints. This doesn't mean no disturbance. If I was you I'd knock on the neighbours houses of the house you plan to buy and be frank and ask them their recent experiences. And don't forgot in the summer you might want to have open windows over night so ask about what it's like in the hot summer months. Hope this helps.
  6. Worth going through this Ofcom list of issues and if not resolved by your broadband provider complaining to Ofcom: http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/internet/problems-and-complaints/broadband-landline-faults/
  7. Hi Alan Medic, Sydenham Woods is nurtured by the London Wildlife Trust - http://www.wildlondon.org.uk/reserves/sydenham-hill-wood-and-coxs-walk Best to ask them but I'd be surprised if they wanted a Christmas tree for 11/12 months of the year. Hi pebs, I agree the new ?25M E&C traffic island/non island is a nightmare. I responded to the consultation against these proposed changes - I suggested with others traffic lights that could have been constructed without causing 18months of mayhem. I suspect the new layout wont last and will be replaced by something that actually meets the objectives.
  8. Hi ITATM, Numerous applications and even the odd successful appeal. Permission granted to extend the store and build 8 flats where the offices are. Separate permission applied for to turn the current offices into lots of mini offices each with a bathroom and 2 apartments on a new third floor. The developer appears now to be building an amalgam of those two applications. I have highlight this to Planning Enforcement and will follow up.
  9. I've asked repeatedly for Southwark Council to check names and addresses to proactively look for fraud. They don't and have yet to even agree to a trial of this. I do (and sure other councillors do and council officials and schools) get occasional reports from unhappy parents about families that obtain school places and they're investigated reactively. Hi kslotts, greenwater, Do you know of other councils that require an uploading of proof of address?
  10. Hi CN, If I were to comment without making it clear I'm a councillor some would accuse me of being less transparent. You can register on the Southwark Council website to be email when any documents with the key words your log are posted on the council website. If you were to use this service you shouldn't need to randomly check notice boards any more or read the small ads section of local newspapers for public notices. Hope this helps. If you get stuck working out how to do this I'll did out a link for you.
  11. Hi first mate, Why do I think they're building 10 flats contrary to planning permissions. Heber School did a radio documentary about it. This was reported in Southwark News as the builder talked about building 10 flats and apparently can be heard in the interview - http://www.heberprimaryschool.com/hrad/
  12. Hi CN, The one-way system when I've walked through the area appeared to me to encourage speeding making it harder to cross the road especially with children. Sorry I assumed this was obvious to anyone walking in the area. I used to live on a one-way gyratory road. We also had it ended and made a huge improvement to the area while reducing the number of vehicles sent on a detour through the one-way system. After talking to a Labour councillor about it he told me the only person who was going to fix the problem was me - cack handed inspired me to get involved in local politics. Seems pretty obvious win win to me for all residents and people travelling through the area.
  13. Hi fazer71, To be fair to M&S they did add that newer to July when they're fitting out they would expect to be responding to any such problems themselves.
  14. A new post about graves about to be dug up seems reasonable to me. I've ancestors buried there and will be checking our family tree for those surnames. I don't think this level of detail has been available before. And I never check the Lounge for news which this is.
  15. www.crashmaps.co.uk shows a number of reported crashes around the area of proposed changes. I'm a pretty confident cyclist and don't personally have trouble cycling this route - except the occasional driver not giving me sufficient space to be safe. But it's actually about encouraging non cyclists to cycle as well as making the area easier to walk and residents having a more pleasant area. And the changes shouldn't make through journeys a bit quick not being diverted around a one-way system. This assumes they're not already speeding.
  16. I've just been forwarded an email received by a resident complaining to the M&S CEO about inconsiderate building on site. First they say they plan to open the new store July 2016. Second that as they're not on site the developer is responsible.
  17. Part of TfL's response to proposing NOT to have a Bakerloo line extension to Camberwell and Peckham was for a Thameslink station at Camberwell. But I would imagine they intended for Sevenoaks trains only to stop at Camberwell which don't go to Loughborough station. So we'd keep Loughborough station and get a re opened Camberwell Station. But an extension of the Bakerloo line to Camberwell would have included an intermediate stop. So if the sop for not getting the Bakerloo line to Camberwell is over ground station - and proposals from TfL that the Sevenoaks trains e moved to London Overground franchise - then a station serving Walworth would also be needed to do the job properly. In fact a re opened Walworth station - both being closed at the same time in 1916 due to manpower shortages and didn't reopen due to competition from trams.
  18. Hi first mate, I agree the system has let you down. The system in Southwark has been lead by Southwark Labour since May 2010. I can only do so much within this system. Hi XIX, I DO NOT represent the council. I represent the people of East Dulwich and Southwark to the council and try shaping what the council does as an opposition councillor. I haven't distanced myself - I have been representing residents complaints. But they have the planning permissions bar the sub station they need and I have been trying to ensure the building works are done more considerately. 1. I have alerted them. 2. We will need to be vigilant about the conditions being followed. I hope after having one legal notice served on the developers as a result of a complaint where I represented some residents that they'll be sensible to avoid more of this.
  19. Hi first Mate, You do seem rather harsh towards me. If you look at my voting record on Planning Committees you could not me of being part of 'impotent alliance of Planning and Councillors'. I have often had tough conditions added to officers recommended conditions for planning permissions, voted against planning officers recommendations and called-in more planning permissions to be decided by a planning committee rather than left for officers to decide than all other councillors since 2006 (when I was first elected) than all other councillors collectively.
  20. Hi Alex K, Thanks. Will keep plugging away for East Dulwich residents. Hi Rosetta, I don't know yet and will find out. Hi ITATM, first mate, What ball regarding M&S do you think I've dropped? I've called-in decisions, objected, encouraged others to object to various things proposed for the Iceland site. The government has made it much harder for planning authorities and the council hasn't provided in my opinion sufficient resources for planning to be as effective as it needs to be. The planning dice are well and truly loaded against residents these days. Hi rch, Yes, I think that change is long over due - I made the same application several years ago but we were unable to agree it with the then Village ward councillors.
  21. Hi annafb, Southwark has a reciprocal arrangement with Lambeth Council so Southwark residents can also use the Lambeth recycling centre close to S.Croxted Road - http://www.wrwa.gov.uk/recycle/reuse-and-recycling-centres/lambeth-reuse-and-recycling-centre,-se27-lambeth-residents-in-cars-only.aspx but you will need to take along proof of address.
  22. Hi first mate, It was made to local school pupils when they visited theist and quoted in a local newspaper.
  23. Hi BNG. I've not said no noise after 7pm. But we should all be mindful of making noises that disturb others. Equally we should all try and accommodate reasonable behaviour. The boundaries of this is what we're discussing not the principles of ever making noise. And people, in this case neighbours, are much more likely to be tolerant if talked to. This thread has shown this original resident and the other two than have contacted me that they're not being listened to reasonably. And we're talking about a club we'd like to see go up to new leagues etc which would involve the ground expanding from 1,000 to up to 5,000 supporter ground. Hi P68, You're right and wrong on recommended hours of sleep. Babies up to 17 hours a day/night. 11 years olds 9-10 hours. http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Childrenssleep/Pages/Howmuchsleep.aspx How do you think parents should organise 10-12 hours of sleep for a typical kids in reception, years 1 or 2 at school if they can't get to sleep until 10pm and need to be up at 7.30pm to get ready for a new school day? And talking to teachers the last thing they need is sleepy kids. Hi Johnl. Yes, that's exactly why in Peckham lots of resistance to new flats near existing club. More homes means more chance of the existing club being closed from noise and anti social behaviour. Hi SirTitus, I think I ruled myself out from any planning committee long ago before this thread. I think putting the 5,000 person stadium, current grounds rated for 1,000 supporters, behind new blocks for 160-270 homes will result in the club having the same type of issues Imperial Gardens suffered - closed from objections to anti social noise etc. The law is even more in favour of residents suffering from noise and disruption than when Imperial Gardens was forced to close. Hi Lbsmith73, Yes my list of failures - new primary schools, new secondary school, new crossings on Lordship Lane, modern street lighting across East Dulwich, lots of crime prevention measures. If you read all my posts I've had several other complaints from neighbours of DHFC If we're getting these when the grounds are rated for 1,000 fans do you think we should try address issues before the grounds expanded t hold 5,000 fans - or should we take your ostrich approach? Hi bluerevolution, Yes and no. Of course the club has to deliver the fixtures the leagues states. But the club could explain to neighbours in an ideal world it would modernise its PA system for example but with potential ground move it was delaying this then neighbours could understand. Talking to its neighbours could go some way to both understanding the others positions. It appears some banging noise occurred coming from the grounds until well after kids bedtimes on a school night. I would hope it would be relatively straight forward to avoid this happening again and tell neighbours that they're going to try and ensure it doesn't or proving to neighbours it never happened. Hi NewWave, You're being silly. Cars driving down roads shouldn't keep kids awake. Cars honking their horns would. What happens when the club goes up a league? The club will need its neighbours to be more understanding. Building up a genuoine rapport now will really help then. Rather than tactless attempts at bullying a genuine original post.
  24. Hi neilson99, The Walworth Road upgrade what 8 years ago appears pretty successful to me. Instead of literally fencing both sides virtually the whole length to keep pedestrians on pavements and caged. I agree with you general point but not that particular example.
  25. Hi NewWave, What you and I as adults consider a reasonable time isn't relevant to kids. They should be getting 12 hours sleep and still getting to school in the morning. Hi Luoisa, The law does not make that distinction. This works two-ways. Equally should the club be limited from going up leagues because it wasn't in that league when it moved there. Ideally the club flourishes and the neighbours are happy. This is perfectly achievable .
