I agree with you *bob* - that's why it makes me laugh. it may not be good business sense, but if that's what she wants, it's her right to stipulate it. i think initially it came about because there were some very expensive antiques in there that were getting bashed on a regular basis, but that seems to be less the case now. also, when i was last in, the two pram rule wasn't being enforced - i suspect (though I hasten to add that it's entirely my own supposition) that there's an element of play it by ear on that one. I've seen loads of prams in there sometimes, and equally a very wealthy looking group of people turned away "because there was no room for the pram" when they'd wound the owner up, in spite of there being lots of space
-
shame duly accepted - am rampant hypocrite - but have had the backs of my knees bashed and toes run over plenty enough times by pram-pushing mothers who didn't apologise to feel this is a little bit of karma. actually, it also makes me laugh because someone's personal bugbear would seem to be getting in the way of good business sense - but at least she's true to herself, even potentially at a cost to her own pocket.

think I'm in a rage and going to remove myself now

think we should establish the size of everyone on this forum's arse to make sure they're fit to comment.
-
I probably would, and I know it's wrong, but it makes me laugh a little bit. come the time when I'm a frazzled mum looking for a nice cake and a sit down, I'm quite sure I'll stop laughing
-
yeah, the food's kind of rubbish, but I've enjoyed a margarita or ten in there. and it's brilliant for it's incongruous orange man in a big hat fascia - you don't see that kind of thing down Lordship Lane too often
-
I take issue with her arse being fat. don't know if I'm just in a bad mood today, but that's p*ssed me right off. she might be rubbish. she might be an idiot. she might be a warmongering, human-rights eroding proto fascist, but seriously, is the size of her arse relevant? no wonder there are so few women in parliament. body fascists
-
I think it's just the owner's personal eccentricity - prams really wind her up. That doesn't help you when you're struggling with a pram though... for myself, I'm quite a fan - I've found the service has improved since it first opened and my cakes have always been good. that said, I don't go in weekly so they could be erratic and I've just been lucky the silver needle tea's delicious
-
bless her I say - she's been in politics long enough to know what a potential PR disaster that was. but if she hadn't put it on, would the police have called her snooty?
-
I'm next door on The Gardens - any takers?

do you know can you have it done for long-sightedness?

I actually thought the resurrection of Shaz fitted the plot fine - as it's all Alex's subconscious (and we know that it is) there was no reason why she couldn't choose to have Shaz wake up. Doubtless some psychiatrists from the Institute (sure there must be some on here) will tell me exactly why the fact that it is her subconscious is the very reason she couldn't choose it, but hey I agree with Keef - have laughed out loud and lusted after Gene so much more in this series than LOM. There's no doubting that as a drama, the quality has diminished, but the enjoyment factor's HUGE. Everything's lighter, the music's brilliant and how slutty is Alex's policewoman dress sense? Gene can fire up my quatro every day of the week

I just feel I should be showing my provincial northern chum a big London time, but am lazy and she deserves a better friend than me. however, I think *Bob* might be able to show her a big London time...

I know, I'm sorry. I thought I'd just put it out there. One of those days. Should go home and do some dusting toot sweet

mockney piers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > By the time the beard is shoulder length the Vicar > of Dibley is amusing, and soon the will to live is > simply sapped from your body....or something. do you think ZZ Top enjoyed The Vicar of Dibley? No sir, they did not. They enjoyed the company of ladies with long and luscious legs - as they should. A beard is a fine thing, all the better to hold onto in moments of passion

Actually marketing's not a bad idea. Ooh, or teaching

(think that's a whole other thread)

My friend's coming down to stay this weekend and I'd like to do something nice for her birthday. Was thinking facials and afternoon tea rather than fancy cocktails up west, but was wondering if anyone knows whether any of the local beauty places do rooms for two, so that we could chat while being facialed? feel like being decadent but not travelling too far because am fundamentally lazy and we're both knackered, so any and all other suggestions for two frazzled early 30s women in need of some tlc much welcomed. am utterly brain dead.

Monica, my understanding is that no shop is obliged to offer you a refund or exchange if you simply don't like what you've bought (rather than its being unsuitable for purpose or faulty in some way) so Dr Boo isn't contravening any trading standards regulations. If packaging has been opened then they can't sell it on - it's a small shop and that therefore becomes a loss to them. I've had returns on toiletries / cosmetics refused in large shops such as Selfridges for just that reason (and I think their bottom line can stand it a bit more than Dr Boo's) For the sake of goodwill, (and avoiding such bad PR as has turned up on the forum) it might have been expedient to offer an exchange anyway. At the very least, the staff member should have explained better why they couldn't exchange. I agree with Sean on this one - there've been times that I thought they were snooty, but I don't think they are - I just think that not all of them are very good at customer service, and that's probably why no explanation was offered. When I've talked to anyone in there, they're really chatty and friendly, and pretty much everyone working there joins in.
-
if they're designer, there are lots of clothing exchanges all over town where you can sell them - they sell them for half the price you paid for them, then you get half the price they were sold for. but you only get the money once sold, and they can be quite snooty about which labels they'll buy. might be better off with ebay
-
but they might sell a few more things if they bothered to talk to their customers. i'm not a craft person myself - i didn't need advice on what glue I'd need for my decoupage hope chest - just some thoughts on what an 8 year old girl might really enjoy, any personal experience of what goes down well, what doesn't. I get that in Oranges and Lemons and I consequently buy more, my nieces are always delighted and I look forward to going back, safe in tke knowledge that I am brilliant favourite aunty. maybe at Puffin don't need the revenue, and just like having a shop window for their crafty exploits - or maybe they make enough from people who know what they're doing not to worry about those who don't

parking ticket on LL, ?120 ...
RosieH replied to lillyanginger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
clearly off topic of the ?120 question, but do people really need to park on LL. I manage my shopping quite nicely without needing to drive round there - good workout for my arms too. Isn't that why all we bleeding-heart ED-ers spend so much on worthy jute bags? kind of defeats the point if you're just loading them into the back of your car
