  1. I know Nina, will certainly keep an eye out for her in Dulwich and she's used to coming to me for treats. Thanks for the info, hope they're all found really soon.
  2. have you thought about this? http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Molluscum-contagiosum/Pages/Introduction.aspx my children had it and I spent ages thinking we had bed bugs or fleas from the cat/dog were biting them. It was only after another parent told me that her son had it and we went back to the doctor to ask if it could in fact be molloscum that it was confirmed. They were mostly on their arms and torso and the spots were definitely not bright red like lots of the pics you can find on the internet, they were white or pink and quite small. No cure but it does clear up eventually. Just an idea if the bed bug/flea investigation comes up with nothing.
  3. Otta, most likely the guys I found were organsiers. I'm sure a good percentage of the riders were younger though, just not those so visible on social media. Still twonks.
  4. I've had a read through the online reports and found a few of the guys on instagram and twitter. They certainly aren't as young as I expected (28-34) and really should know better by now, some being fathers etc. No helmets, riding on the pavement and not giving a toss whether anyone on the pavement gets hurt. There were so many tiny kids where I live having to dive out of the way into front gardens and a fair amount of abuse hurled when anyone gestured for them to slow down. On another note, the firework thing is incredibly dangerous too. On saturday my sister's house was set alight by a stray firework, 80% damage and now they have nowhere to live.
  5. We had an arboriculturalist come to assess the surrounding trees and shrubs and he informed us that only the large trees right next to the house would cause any damage. The insurance company refused to accept this though and we were told that unless we removed them, then we wouldn't be insured! The council trees to the side of the house however remained and are still causing a lot of trouble. It's much easier to bully your policy holders than to take on southwark council's tree department. We have ash trees, very fast growing, significantly younger than the house and all within 6 feet of the side of the property. There are better species of tree to plant supposedly but I've given up on anything ever changing.
  6. cella, we had to have all of our box hedges removed from the front garden due to some cracking on the front bay window. They took them out and told us we couldn't plant anything else, we can only have plants or trees in pots or planters.
  7. I really don't like them, I want to but I don't. Part of it is the positioning I think. If they were in the more wooded sections of the park, in amongst the trees and showing the scale then I'd probably like them more. As it is, they look a bit like rusting disused playground equipment stranded in the middle of the fields.
  8. Plus don't Kingsdale offer music scholarship places too?
  9. Maybe I'm an old cynic but I feel that it's an easier way to cherry pick students and boost results. Of the secondary schools we applied for with our eldest son, Kingsdale and Harris Boys asked them to sit a test before we were offered a place and I think Charter after we had been offered. If they sit them before the lottery is drawn then they have a good idea of their academic level. I'm just saying I wouldn't trust it but yes, if you are right and everything is transparent and above board then it's a great idea!
  10. I have wondered about the lottery system. How does it work? who pulls the names out of the hat? Surely it could enable a school to choose the more academic pupils that have applied all under the luck of the draw? Hopefully the new school will make it so much easier for everyone in coming years, 240 extra places a year has got to be a good thing.
  11. Keane, a lot of places have historically become available in August when those offered private school places decline their state school place. I hope they do and you get offered a place. !500 metres isn't that far, I think a lot of Turney Road near to the railway bridge struggle to get in on first offers but usually do later on and I reckon that's close to 1500 metres. Good luck. Thanks sillywoman, if I can indeed request a redemption letter then my problem is sorted.
  12. I do live very near to the school and have done for 9 years, I'm just hoping the child benefit paperwork won't cause me problems if they are being inflexible. I do remember on the last application that the child benefit was in my name and different to my sons, which made it not straight forward. I would think those that move to secure a place either don't want their children to go to private school or that the competition is too fierce and a great number of children wouldn't be offered a place anyway.
  13. As I understood, you would still gain a place on a sibling application even if you moved out of catchment? Not that I have, I'm still at the same address as my eldest's application but if so, why would they need proof of address? I'm going to be stuck with the child benefit proof. Our accountant advised us to opt out of child benefit payments so we no longer receive any money or paperwork from them. I'm sure this must be fairly common though and I hope there are other ways we can provide documents.
  14. I've been wondering about the child benefit thing as my younger son will be applying to The Charter on a sibling place next year. I would expect it to be less of a problem being a sibling application but what do you do if you're not entitled to child benefit?
  15. I have two bengals, both males, both neutered and they're the soppiest, friendliest cats I've ever had. They love humans, other cats and dogs alike. Possibly the problem is the fact that this cat hasn't been neutered, lots of large tom cats terrorise other cats given the chance. When we contacted breeders years ago to buy our cats, we were informed by all of the breeders that we'd need to sign a disclaimer stating that we'd have them neutered when they reached a certain age, as the breeding is controlled here. Maybe this cat is a product of uncontrolled breeding and there's too much of the original breed in him or maybe he just needs his bits off. If you do want to catch him and take to the vet to find the owner then I'd suggest giving him a treat and a lot of fuss, he'll most likely let you pick him up and go into a carrier then. I've done this with a fiesty bengal that wasn't mine and didn't want to be caught. Good luck and I hope your cat gets her confidence back soon.
  16. I've just been on their website and found out that you can donate cash too. For someone like me that always seems to be at work or looking after kids then it's a good hassle free way to contribute.
  17. I have loads in my garden every year, this year i've only seen the females so far but i'll definintely try to catch a male when they decide to show themselves. We usually get quite large males like this one and have videos of them fighting. I have become quite attached to the small beasts. Will message you if I find any soon. e
  18. Bogusha's pilates classes at Jags, thursday and sunday eves. I think the lower age limit is 12 and the classes are very mixed and friendly. She offers a slightly more dynamic, physio led class and having scoliosis myself, can honestly say it's helped me a lot.
  19. If not then I'm going in July and need some for tipping on the way to the airport before I've bought currency.
  20. Marrakech, Club Med (Le Palmeraie/Le Riad), 3 hour flight, 10 min transfer, all inclusive (kids clubs too), weather always great too. Only downside is it's not cheap but still good value for all you get.
  21. The reason I'm not using the outer track at the moment cazfay is that it's been really muddy and I'm not always dressed for just dog walking, a lot of the time I'm on my way to work, walking through and giving the dog a walk too. I use it more in the summer when the ground is dry and the park's busier.
  22. They probably will yes, but this minority will probably do lots of anti social acts and even other dog owners will dislike others that don't pick up poo! The majority of us are responsible and considerate, even those that don't pay high earners tax! That tax comment was ridiculous btw. What Jah said. There has been no evidence so far that the op was attacked by the dog, or whether it actually touched her. A thoroughly sensationalist post. Tell me uncleglen, what's the solution?
  23. First mate, it was the sports pitches I meant when talking about inner green areas but not all grassed areas are meant to be used as sports pitches. The grass outside the cafe for instance is probably not dogs on leads but a good idea so they don't run into the cafe area. It states in the Southwark web link that the main road/path is not within the dogs on leads area so why do we keep having this debate about dogs being off lead there? They're allowed to be. As cyclists are allowed to cycle and every other permitted activity in the park can happen there too. I agree the councils signs are confusing though. Firstmate, I agree with you btw, second para not directed at you.
  24. Just read the link ianr posted a link to. The dogs on leads areas are inside of the tarmac road/path. This includes the area around the cafe, pond, children's playground and inside the tennis courts. It also includes the grass pitches surrounding these areas but not the path and grass outside.
