  1. Cripes... go away for few days and there's SW crying out for me!! Can provide a note from my Mum to cover my absence! Hello Sailor - hope yourself and Mini-Sailor are on the mend, sounds like you're on the upward swing of the bug and that SELDOC were reassuring. Belle is right when she says all nurses/dr's ask about appetite quickly. Is (second to temp/pulse/resp rate) one of the most important things to be aware of/assess in poorly children. So long as their taking at least 50% of normal intake and their having at least 4 wet nappies a day we're happy. If you imagine how you feel yourself with a cold - full of mucus (alot of which is swallowed) and how your appetite decreases, that's how babies/children feel too. Offering little and often is way to go. Also as Fuschia mentions, propping up the head end of the bed (I've used a rolled up blanket under the mattress) helps them to sleep better. Just to add, agree with all written about brufen but it is for 5kg+ .... prob not much of a stretch for some babies, but worth remembering if you've a smaller (weight-wise) baby.
  2. Think I had a girl from this outfit on my doorstep yesterday, wearing a fluorescent jacket - something about upgrading our loft (but didn't say in what respect) tried to make it sound like we were missing out on funding to do it with and thought we'd had letters/phonecalls about it too. Managed to get rid of her as we're (hopefully) moving soon. Noticed a bloke going up the other side of the road as well so guess they were working together. (we're on Friern Road).
  3. Well done Ruth, have been lucky not to face issues like this, but do find in life generally that anticipating dealing with a difficult situation/conversation is normally much worse than what actually happens. Fingers crossed that all goes well and maybe this will in turn help your Mum's relationship with your sister as well xx
  4. ...why not use a carton for the night feed - could have it ready in the bottle in the fridge and see if she'll take it cold or have the carton/scissors/bottle to hand and try her with it room temperature. Had to give bugglet EBM top-ups after each feed for several weeks and within days stopped warming it and she took it really well, especially if she's waking hungry she'll be happy to get the milk not what temp it is!
  5. They've got starry-eyed by Ellie Goulding on the trailer about changing the bedtime hour. Is that the one you're thinking of?!
  6. ...easily explained (well, the ambulances bit). Someone called SELDOC (the out of hours GP), when the GP got there, unhappy with condition of person and felt they needed to go to hospital so called ambulance. A first responder (the car ambulance) was sent (?the patient needed treatment/stabilisation before transfer to hospital) and then the ambulance arrived to take the patient in. Hope that makes sense!
  7. I had such a thing for Chris Jarvis (many years ago) that a friend wrote and got him to send me a signed photo and good luck letter when I moved to London :-$ was little bit heartbroken when I found out I'd stand no chance!
  8. Although alot of it is dug up, there were toys out/families in there when I went by at lunchtime x
  9. .... still have 29 pampers micro nappies to give away to a good home!!
  10. ...flakes of skin?? WTF?!!! Chickenpox is droplet infection (breath/sneezes/licking/snogging kind of thing!) Don't quite know what kind of flakes of skin the GP is expecting twosling to shed (or anyone with chickenpox for that matter!). I would say in sling/buggie will be fine for short trips, and am sure you'll use your judgement wisely. Know this contradicts what the GP has said, but don't know where s/he's coming from - would be curious to ask him further on this!
  11. That's ok Trish - glad you had a lovely time! x
  12. ... have just got them out and notice they say 2-5lbs, but fairly sure we used them until bugglet was at least 5.5lbs - have 29 nappies going!
  13. Saw the 2nd display and they mentioned a bird being battered and bruised in the first display, very sweetly they were hugely apologetic that they'd had to end the first display so abruptly and that those unable to stay till 4pm had missed out. I remember the crows bullying one of their birds last year but they picked a fight with the wrong bird and were outwitted, guess it was their year to win :0(
  14. Our baby was just under 5lb and we used pampers micro - available in Boots and Mothercare in Peckham. We have one and a bit packs spare and would be happy to pop them round to you tonight - will pm you my contact number x
  15. Ahhh... forgot age of mini knomester - really, piriton only used for allergic reaction in under 1's and in that case should be seen by Dr/A&E first - once over 1yr ok to use as bottle says (is only medicine which even in A&E we obey the instructions on the bottle!!).
  16. Don't think a day trip to Paris will affect your baby that much Trish. Measles is a droplet infection so someone infectious would have to breath/sneeze/cough over the baby and for the germs to take route (more difficult than it sometimes seems - see threads regarding chickenpox + siblings staying pox-free!). Think risk is more for people holidaying over in France where the kids are going to have prolonged contact/close contact with other children - at 6 months babies aren't having that kind of contact (v unlikely you'll have other children coming that close to baby and they won't be wanting to "play"). If I were you, I'd put this to the back of my mind and look forward to what sounds like a lovely (if belated) way to celebrate your birthday! xx
  17. Agree with Fuschia - rotherhithe tunnel is so much quicker, but would go onto A13 rather than looping round and back onto the A13. Just avoid the "services" at Brentwood - the garage is ok, but the McDonalds didn't even have milkshakes when we made a pitstop there the other week!
  18. ....dioralyte! Knew there was something I'd forgotten!! Trick I use in A&E is to add a dash of ribena/blackcurrent squash to help "enhance" the blackcurrent-ness. Be careful that it is only a dash otherwise the osmolarity is affected and it won't re-hydrate as effectively.
  19. I would suggest taking the golden trilogy of syrups - paracetamol, ibuprofen and chlorophenamine (piriton) as well as syringes rather than spoons. Eurax cream incase of any rash/itchy insect bites. At 8 months, mini-knomester is unlikely to cut/burn/sprain anything, however, to cover yourselves it might be worth adding steristrips, plasters, gauze, crepe bandage & micropore tape as well as a tea-tree burns dressing (a big one can always be trimmed down). Don't forget any regular medications anyone in the family has (especially things like inhalers) and ensure there's enough of them to cover the first week back as well (save yourself queuing for an emergency GP appt the day you return!). Finally, don't forget suncream for baby or yourselves! Am sure there's more that could be added...
  20. We registered Bugglet at Southwark Town Hall without a problem - they have a lambeth person based there to do the registering - much easier than trooping over to Brixton, especially as we are all Southwark residents!
  21. I had to have lots of scans during my pregnancy as had unequal uterine artery pressures and gestational diabetes. The point of the scans was to check the bugglet was growing properly, and each time they measured her there was an increase. However, the weight estimates must have been way off - the last scan I had was at 39wks and their estimate was 6lb 3oz, she was born 6 days later weighing 4lb 10oz! The bugglet was all limbs though which I think threw out the equation they base estimates on.
  22. Hi James, Can anything be done by the council to encourage people to trim their hedges?? There's a house/?flat conversion on Crystal Palace Road between Whateley and Pellat Road where the hedge is obstructing the pavement (especially as it's right by a lamp post) It's impossible to get by with a buggie (and I'm sure postmen have same problem with their trolleys) without brushing against the hedge. Cheers.
  23. I'm a trainer with The Parent Company so know how much is covered (and practised within the class). Know there are cheaper classes available but unsure how much hands on practice they offer when it comes to basic life support & choking. Know the classes are expensive (might be worth checking if they still do an NCT discount) but always get very positive evaluations. There's lots of info on the website/more of an idea of the curriculum of the 2 classes offered.
  24. Bugglet was in her jumperoo from approx 14wks old, even though she was below the 0.4th centile - she had amazing head control and was again keen on standing/bored with playgym. She'd only go in for 5-10mins at a time, but absolutely loved it and still does now (7.5mths). Infact, she went in it today and I thought she was going to take off as she got so excited with arms and legs all going!!
  25. Bugglet loves facing in and outwards in the Becco and can see around in either position (am sure everyone who's met her will agree she's v noisy inquisitive!). Bluesuperted is right - the hire charge is ?10.99 plus the returnable deposit (which was returned really quickly once the carrier was back with them). They also then give you a 10% discount code for any purchases you want to make. I kept the wrapping it got sent out in and re-wrapped in it to send it back to them!
