I wish I'd had one of these from the off - as it was I got one at 5wks and have used it with every feed since!: Thrupenny bits feeding cushion antoher big plus point is it's a local business. Also sock-ons (proud to say we've not lost any socks in 6mths!) which are available in jo-jo and mothercare. Finally, this Homedics sound/light projector is something we still use for daytime naps... haven't actually used the light projector, but the wave/heartbeat sounds are really soothing (would even settle hubbie and me back to sleep after night feeds!).

hmmm the bugglet left (albeit temporary) hicky on my forearm a few wks back - tried her with baby rice the next day and think she was impressed the hint worked! No teeth yet (phew!) but I swear she's a nail file hidden in her cot = their so sharp (and she does love gripping my lower lip with them!)

Have been happily using the maxicosi pebble and isofix for nearly 6mths, but tonight when I removed the car seat, the base started alarming and the light that indicates the chair is clipped in properly was flashing. The only way to stop it was to clip the seat back in which isn't ideal. Any ideas oh fountain of parental trivia!! :-S

Best way to get to Tommy's with baby in buggy?
buggie replied to AliM's topic in The Family Room Discussion
12 goes right past Tommys and being a bendy bus has good access/space for buggies (especially if you get on it at ED end). Unfortunately I can believe the journey planner made the route so convoluted - do sometimes think it's designed to put you off using public transport! -
Pebbles is right about the syringes but rather than shooting it in in one go (and potentially causing them to gag/vomit) I suggest squeezing little by little into their cheeks - much more difficult for them to spit it out! My other top tip might not work as he's 18mths, but definitely for under a year blowing on their face after giving a bit of the medicine makes them swallow (as well as blink) - think it stimulates the dive reflex. Eurax cream can also take the itch away so might be worth trying as well x

Transverse at 22wks, chances of Unborn Babster turning?
buggie replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Buglet was breech (and sucking her toes) at the 28wk scan, turned x3 between 30-32 wks (felt it each time as was really, really weird!) and she was cephalic by 32wks and stayed down! Isn't it meant to be No. 2 takes longer to settle as the muscles are a bit more relaxed/bit more room! -

I'd be happy to park further away if I could guarantee having the space to get the bugglet +/- her car seat back into the car after shopping, unfortunately, even at the bottom of the car park this can't be promised and there's no way I'd leave her in her carseat in the road while I reverse out - not with the driving I've often seen at the bottom end of the car park. The bugglet is very amenable to going shopping with anyone who wants a more baby's eye view and would probably be quite vocal on pointing out the problems :)) -
Attached Upper Lip Frenulum - advice needed
buggie replied to jills's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ruth - you call and leave a msg on their answerphone and they get back to you within a day or so. I saw Joanne when we were still on the post natal ward and then emailed her for a few weeks and always got replies within a day or so. If you were worried about ?tongue tie, I'd go to the fab breastfeeding cafe in Peckham Library on a Thurs morning as a first port of call x -
parent and child spaces in sainsbury's car park

I saw a man park in one of these spaces the other day (leaving me and my 5mth old struggling out of a regular space). He'd clearly left the car on his own, but there was a car seat in the car. Muttering the numberplate to myself all the way into the store I went straight to the customer services desk and told them (saying either the baby was unaccompanied in the car or he'd thought that with a car seat in there he could get away with it). They immediately put out a customer announcement for the owner of the car - couldn't stick round to see if he did go/what they said (shopping is seriously time limited these days!), but was impressed that they took it seriously. -
we've just started swimming lessons and on their advice, use a huggies swimmers (although was painful getting the extra small size) with one of these a happy nappy over the top (and very cute she looks in it too!)

Am sure even the most far up their arse bureaucrat would agree that rather than stopping a doc like that the money would be better spent improving care given to new mums to help them be able to breastfeed. -

Some reassurance that i'm not doing a bad job!!!
buggie replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
really wish there was a "like" feature for all of the lovely supportive posts - not really got anything to add, but well done JennyH - sounds like you're doing a fab job and haven't taken an easy route over the last few weeks. I remember the 90min offering breast/giving formula milk/expressing cycle from early weeks with my baby, so sorry you didn't get much support from midwives - think the advice/plan I got from Joanne (Claire K's colleague), visits from Oakwood. We were lucky in that the nipple shields worked for us, but even being a paeds nurse (so knew a few tricks) it was still very stressful and wouldn't wish it on any other Mum's. -
.... omg - it got you posting!! :)) Have replied on FB! x

... hope you see this - have realised that you took my number but didn't give me your new number!! Can't find you on FB either :0( txt or PM me and we'll meet up soon! ... sorry for using the forum like this (have no other way of getting msg to her!)

Anyone had experience of small for dates scans at Kings?
buggie replied to Yak's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I was told the bugglet was small at the 12/40 scan - was scanned 5/7 later to check she'd grown, at 20/40 scan was told I had unequal uterine artery pressures (more chance of pre-eclampsia/inter-uterine growth restriction). I had to have extra scan at 28/40, then was diagnosed with gestational diabetes so had further scans at 32, 36 and 39wks (think last scan was to ensure placenta ok so could go to 40/40 before induction). I was really concerned through the pregnancy that I didn't seem to be showing much/have a v big bump (ended up having serious bump envy of all other pregnant women - I know, I should have appreciated it!), and only once did my bump seem to measure the correct number of weeks - as I was being scanned so regularly, and the measurements they took seemed to be following the centile (they thought 9th centile). At 39wk scan they predicted bugglet was 6lb 3oz... 6 days later she was born weighing 4lb 10oz! Luckily she is perfect in every other way, but have had hassle from HV's as *surprisingly* she is still below the 0.4th centile (she's pretty much on the 0.2nd centile - if there was one!). So, on the one hand I was right to worry about her growth/my size as she was tiny (and no one has ever said why), but on the other, she's fab and I wouldn't swap her for anything in the world - hope you can enjoy your pregnancy x -
Q. is it possible for babies to miss out rolling over?? Bugglet has rolled from front to back a few times but not in weeks and never from back to front, however, she is sitting on the whole unsupported/minimal support (with the occasional forward/backwards/sideways dive!). She loves sitting but still isn't keen on tummy time - should I do more tummy time?! A.... anybody?!

new ed resident-baby ludoscotts has arrived!
buggie replied to ludoscotts's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Fab news... seems like v v long time ago that I came to look at the moses basket mattress!! -
Especially as you describe it as dry/patchy (I'm guessing from what you say patches rather than spots & dry as almost flaky rather than just not wet/oozy) it sounds v much like infantile eczema - the distribution as you describe is v typical and can often be something that babies grow out of. Would be worth seeing GP as diprobase/doublebase cream may be more effective or even a v short course of hydrocortisone cream to use on the worst patches. Hope he feels better soon - lucky this time of year that he'll be in long sleeves & getting too hot so prob isn't as itchy.
