Weaning breastfed baby before 6 months
buggie replied to EDmummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
...would be interested to know how many not "exclusively br/feeding" are actually only giving one bottle/top ups of formula a day - there's a big gulf between EBF'ing and fully formula feeding which doesn't seem to be acknowledged. Anything I've seen on the subject of feeding seems to see the subject as black and white without taking note of the many shades of grey inbetween. -
I started giving bugglet formula at night initially when she was 6wks old and had similar experience (was also using aptamil). Went back to giving EBM, but about 3wks later swapped back to aptimil (expressing was getting more difficult) and found she was much better and settled. Thought it might have been age related rather than an I tolerance. Best of luck Moos x

6 year old complaining of ear pain
buggie replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can have ear infection without temperature, but normally +++ painful - not easily distracted from. Possibly worth seeing GP to confirm there isn't anything visible signs in the ear of infection/cause for discomfort. -
The Medela ones came with instructions which I found helpful as other ones I bought didn't have any (instructions were pretty much lick and stick!!) and found they would stay on (esp once nipple sucked into them1!
-
Fuschia - have you tried using nipple shields when br/feeding during the day?? Used them myself as the bugglet couldn't latch on (due to being diddy rather than tongue tie) and they really helped - especially the medela ones... bit evangelical about them as was only a friend suggesting them that I tried them, no MW/advice online mentioned them and yet without them I wouldn't have been able to br/feed - we had stopped using them by the time she was 9wks old, but guess you'd be able to stop as soon as the tongue tie is resolved. Best of luck - sounds like you're having a rough time of it xx

Quick question re: storing breastmilk
buggie replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
5 days - big thing is to make sure it's in the fridge rather than the door. If you've frozen, once defrosted need to use it within 24hrs. When I was expressing 200ml+ a day I used the milk storage bags (boots ones) and would decant milk in there from the medela bottles. -
When should a child be able to undress / dress himself??
buggie replied to charlottep's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have you triedgettibg him involved in choosing clothes (obv within reason - which t-shirt out of selection to avoid buzz lightyear/wrong clothes for season) No personal experience, but maybe if he decided what to wear he'd be keener to put it on. HTH x -
Breastfeeding friendly place to have lunch in ED
buggie replied to Fidgetsmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
... is it too late to say I meant barman & not batman - damned iPhone! -
:)) Sounds v familiar!!

3rd comment for the rainforest gym - lil bugglet loves chatting to the butterflies and we've "customised" it by adding few other toys off the loops (favourite being Emily). Really like the fact that all the hanging toys that come with the gym do something (rattle/spin/have bell) which has reinforced/encouraged her developing motor skills - at 3.5mths I can now see why they call it a baby gym!

Breastfeeding friendly place to have lunch in ED
buggie replied to Fidgetsmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The Herne is really nice (but bit cold unfortunately!). The Victoria Inn is really good - batman happy to speak to me mid feed rather than giving me the swerve which I've had friends do even! On a slightly related note, tried out the cafe in Mama's & Papa's on Regent St monday & it was fab... Loads of room for buggies by each table, good chairs to feed on, nice changing facilities and nice food/?no minimal ? order - hubbie described it as an oasis of calm!! Will def visit there again!! -
First parent/baby film at Peckham Plex - Thurs 13th Jan
buggie replied to alieh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm thinking Love and other drugs... apparently the Focker's one isn't v good (and doesn't have Jake Gyllenhaal in the buff!!!:))) Do you think tickets need booking in advance? -
Thank you sillywoman from the Buggies!

I had a hospital birth (was always inclined towards it and gestational diabetes meant it was then required), but, I laboured at home (with support over the phone/once she arrived from my oakwood midwife) and only arrived at hospital 1/2hr before my daughter arrived. None of us expected it to happen that quickly (not even the midwife!) but my husband and I both agreed that having had the majority of my labour at home (and a straightforward delivery with only gas & air/TENS machine once in hospital) we would be far more tempted to have a home birth if/when we have No. 2 as it didn't seem as daunting as I thought it would (and think hubbie would be worried the birth could happen quicker/in the car! Best of luck x

Feeling frustrated (..medical thread)
buggie replied to GinaG3's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Haven't a clue what it could be - but your description of it being purple/red makes me wonder if it could be vascular - guessing when you press on it it blanches (goes white) and then comes back again? Is it appearing after you've been exposed to extremes of temperature? Agree that it likely isn't a typical A&E thing - could it be worth trying the walk-in centre at Lister Health Centre on Peckham Road when it comes up - it's open 7 days a week 8am-8pm. Fingers crossed for you, at least (from what you say) it doesn't cause you pain xx -
Could always see if anyone on the forum has one to borrow - worked for me! Best of luck x

Mr Buggie's chrimbo pressie to himself last week was a Sonos and while initially sceptical have found myself falling in love with it too! I'm able to use spotify on his log in and have the iphone app so that I can get the speaker working after a few secs on my phone... able to keep myself and the bugglet entertained with the nursery rhymes/disney songs (the bugglet either loves "supercalerfragilisticexpialedousous or laughs at how mummy's gone mad when singing along to it!)
-
Are you using syringe?? (always easier than spoon as you can direct it towards the back of the tongue/into the cheek in v small amounts) There's one particular medicine we have to give regularly in Paeds ED which tastes really bad, to disguise it I add neat squash (blackcurrent has stronger flavour than orange)- could it be worth trying this - you only need a small amount so don't have to worry as much about them drinking a whole cup worth x

We got this: sound machine on the recommendation of a friend and it worked wonders. Especially the heartbeat/ocean sounds. The timer is really useful, and found it helped me and hubbie get back to sleep too!! :)
-
I'm wary of taking the bugglet out in sling after tripping on a curb last week (without snow around!) went several feet before regaining my balance (and then a further 5 mins for my heart rate to return to normal!). BTW, if using a fabric sling in this weather, what are you putting baby in clothing wise?? Have big padded pram suit for in the car seat/carrycot, but is so huge on her I don't think she'd fit in the sling, let alone risk of her overheating!

Think it's worse today underfoot than it was yesterday - heading along Goodrich and down Dunstans Road felt like an ice rink underfoot despite me wearing my walking boots. Think it was only having the buggy that stopped me from going A over T. Was even more annoying to reach the GP's to find that baby clinic was cancelled due to the weather. Course the bugglet slept through all of this!

I'd be up for a drink or two on 10th/11th - esp as I'm missing out on meeting friends on the 9th as hubbie's got his work chrimbo do, nearly 11wks into mummyhood and really missing going out in the evenings :(

Remember seeing you on your way thru Ryedalema!! :)) Can't believe it was only a year ago (I've been a busy bunny!!)
