Baby slings/carriers that are good for breastfeeding
buggie replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Might be worth looking at the "close" sling (think it's on amazon and john lewis). It's a stretchy/ring sling suitable from birth/5lbs - can't say how good it is as I've another 5wks before bubs arrives, but it seems v easy to use and there is a br/feeding position (don't know for sure if it's hands free though or if I'd want to be hands free early on!). -
autumn babies club-next meet up cafe nero this sunday?
buggie replied to millsa's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Didn't quite catch everyone's names (or even talk to everyone :-$) but was really nice to meet other mums-to-be and have a good chat - looking forward to meeting up again soon x -
What is the current state of Dulwich Women's institute?
buggie replied to elderflower's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Elderflower - isn't is slightly daft to judge everything the EDWI does on the basis of one months activity?? I'm not a memeber, but was for a few months at the beginning (work made it difficult to continue) and I'd say judging the whole thing on one activity is like looking at the tip of an iceberg and deciding that's all you need to see to know the full size of it. -
I didn't - but I did recognise him at the end (Mr Buggie then needed to pause it and rewind before gasting his flabber!)

autumn babies club-next meet up cafe nero this sunday?
buggie replied to millsa's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ooo - might be able to meet this one - we're meeting friends (also soon to be parents!) for lunch so will depend what time their expecting us/where we're going. -
EatsDulwich - 17th Sept... so take it as read by end of Sept I'll be up for brownie crumbs galore!!
-
We've got a roller blind in what will be bub's room - when we bought it a clip/hook came with it as well to secure the chain pull but without instruction on where to secure it/how to use it - anyone have any ideas?!
-
Couldn't the brownie tasting be held in late september?? Have gestational diabetes which will resolve as soon as bubs is born and have said I'll have a choc brownie on the side as an incentive during labour!! (having said that, the last 2 brownies I had before finding out about the GD were homemade and Leon - homemade win hands down - don't agree with choc and orange unless it's a jaffa cake!)

Brilliant gift ideas for 1 yr old? (under ?25!)
buggie replied to ClaireinSE22's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I got my friends daughter a lovely pull-along wooden train from Soupdragon a few years back - think it was about ?12 and was lovely as it could do so many things - be pulled along, undo the carriges/train and connect back and there was a mirror on one carrige and a squeaker on the other, she loved it and played with it lots. -
Toddler eaten a stone - should I worry?
buggie replied to Fi from West Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Good good!! Have had several swallowed coins return for rpt xr's having not been found only to show it must have passed without being noticed! -
Through work hear of lots of embarrassing accidents - but course can't go into any here, however, I've managed to do more than enough myself - eg - few years back (having watched too much Strictly Come Dancing or Dancing on Ice) tried to do an arabasque (roughly stand on one leg with other stretched out behind), I wobbled, went to put leg down and caught my little toe on the edge of a suitcase breaking my toe :-$... worse thing being we were meant to be heading out for a family lunch - I got there (having popped into be checked by a friend in ED). I also (during a really busy shift) purely by turning dislocated my kneecap and had to be looked after in the paeds area (where it had happened) as there was no room in any of the adult areas to move me to! Had the families I'd been looking after pop by and wish me well as they were each discharged!

Think I've seen people using that wheely carseat one in america - find it unnerving the idea of having bubs at ankle level (I know that's where they are when crawling but in this their going faster - ?more risk of injury!)
-
:)) sb - good to hear it doesn't have to be induction with GD - am hoping to be in bargaining position nearer due date! x
-
Not able to help regarding experience, but just wanted to give you some moral support! I'm having my first in Sept and have been warned already I may have to be induced if I go overdue due to gestational diabetes, trying to keep a v open mind as is too far away to get stressed/be writing plans in stone for. I'm sure some of the things you've been doing already (especially the hypnobirthing) will be transferable to hospital setting, might be worth doing a labour ward tour to ask the questions you've got - or checking with the midwives as am sure you won't be their first induction/change of plans. Hope all goes ok for you x
-
Aw prm - going to PM you - have you let Oakwood know yet?? I've asked to stay with them (had been needing to see them for fortnightly bp checks so had had more contact with them than typical), but if I need to go onto insulin have been told I'd need to have Ruskin take over - no sign of needing insulin yet so fingers crossed! Don't know if it's me relaxing or whether the wt I've lossed has helped but control seems to be getting easier (was expecting it to get harder!), still with 7wks to go might be speaking too soon!!

Toddler eaten a stone - should I worry?
buggie replied to Fi from West Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
don't know if the stone would be visible on XR and second the advice you've been given to watch nappies - also if he was to start vomiting lots or lost appetite as this could be early indication of bowel obstruction. Noteworthy to all is please NOT to ring A&E asking for advice - the nurses aren't legally covered to give phone advice(unlike with NHS direct), won't be able to fully reassure as for an A&E nurse the most important part is seeing the child face-to-face (even after nearly 9yrs A&E experience I'll still suggest coming in than being able to wholeheartedly say all is ok without seeing them). Can also lead to delays in treatment of children/families already in the dept (is infuriating as these calls often come when we're rushed off our feet and when we try and explain this to the caller's they take umbridge!). Either call NHS direct, SELDOC or if so concerned just come in to the dept. -
With chickenpox when they have to yellowish appearance they look blisterish rather than spot like - they then pop and dry out to be scabs - from what you've described time wise Gina, I'd expect a few to have dried out by now... can sometimes have chickenpox without many pox. Def not HFM with appearance on elbow, and the yellowish-ness you talk of def sounds more CP to me. Hope she's better soon x

Neverending cough - any advice?
buggie replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Unless you've had a fever and ++ mucus/productive cough, antibiotics aren't going to help as it's v unlikely to be a bacterial infection (GP's have a habit of dishing antibiotics out due to patient pressure/presumed patient pressure) despite all the signs pointing to viral infections/other causes, so if they have said it doesn't need them believe them. Could well be allergy related - have you tried antihistamines? Will need to be advised by the chemist which to use (some are not allowed during pregnancy) but could be worth trying. If you're still wheezy might be worth speaking to your GP about ?needing salbutamol inhaler but personally would try the antihistamines first. -
Surreptitiously hiding calpol in milk
buggie replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you do put it into milk, just add it to a small amount, otherwise you'll need to ensure they have the whole bottle to have the dose (and if you're going by whats suggested on the pack you'll need the whole dose as it's prob on the conservative side). If you want to try giving it orally, ask the chemist for syringes as their much easier to moderate how quickly you give the medicine and you can aim it into their cheeks (more difficult for them to spit it out!), and blowing on their face can make them swallow as a reflex action. ..... ok, think that's all the paeds nurse secrets I can let you in on! -
