  1. Thanks! I think we'll give it a go for a couple of days at half term and see how she likes it!
  2. I strongly recommend you contact the council to get this info as doing it by postcode isn't accurate - on online tools it just measures from the centre of a postcode whereas the accurate distance might be 30-40 metres different.
  3. I need to find some options for holiday clubs for my 4 yr old reception daughter. None of her school friends need to go to holiday camps so I'm looking for something where there are other kids that don't know anyone. She is quite shy. I was looking at Nimble Arts at Heber School. Has anyone sent their kids there? Would love to hear your experiences.
  4. I always am surprised about how few planes there are in other parts of the country. When I was visiting my niece recently she got really excited when she saw a plane and my daughter was like yes we see them all the time at home. And we do! It is non stop really here and I can't imagine how loud it is closer to heathrow
  5. If you're looking at primary schools I would suggest your first step is to call Southwark council and find out what place you would be on the waiting list for an in year transfer at any nearby schools and then you can see which are worth going to look at. Although there is some movement in year, if you're 30th in a list you won't really have a realistic chance of getting in to that school. I don't imagine any schools near nunhead have open places as most are over subscribed. The school Southwark usually seems to place in year transfers in is St Francesca Cabrini, where my child goes, but it's a Catholic school so not everyone's preference. Do you want to move your kids aasap or wait until a place at a school you like comes up?
  6. Yes, how can I find out what type of apples I have?
  7. Hi, my daughter is also going into reception at Francesca Cabrini. They don't take kids in the after school club until they are 5 and then, as Anna says, it ends at 5.45. Our daughter is being picked up by a childminder who looks after pur younger son. She picks up other kids too so PM me if you'd like details. She only works till 6 though she might be flexible.
  8. The problem is that the space on the road can be used by anyone on the street but the space in the front garden can only be used by the owners of the house. So if you live on a street with more cars than spaces this is restricting your ability to park even further. Not to mention the problems that occur when everyone decides to concrete over their gardens thus removing drainage for rain water.
  9. Also that website doesn't have this year's data yet and the Fairlawn catchment shrank considerably this year to I think around 290m. I imagine it will get smaller year by year to be honest. But there is movement on waiting lists, we've moved up 4 places already and lots of kids move schools in reception/year 1 as places come up.
  10. In my experience, kids themselves are very accepting of different styles of families. At my eldest's nursery one of her friends has 2 mums and she explained to me how sometimes people have two mums or two dads or no dad at all. They've obviously talked about it at nursery and to her it's totally normal. However, I think Francesca Cabrini is a pretty traditional school so you'd want to get a sense of that yourself, I'm happy to talk via PM if you'd like to know more about my personal views bearing in mind we haven't started there yet. Also, there are a couple of new schools (Prendergast Ladywell and harris East dulwich) that have had open spaces for reception which are apparently lovely schools, just a bit of a distance but there are always options.
  11. I'd recommend signing up to the se23 mums facebook group too. Despite the name it's not just for mums. A really lovely helpful supportive group and definitely some LGBT Parents on there.
  12. Fairlawn is a very popular school and you would have to be living very close to get in. We are 350m away and did not get in. You can call the council to see how far the official distance to your house is. I understand some families rent right next to the school to guarantee a place and then move away later. My child is going to Francesca Cabrini. It's pretty Catholic (we are not catholic) but looks like it has lovely facilities nd I understand in infants religion isn't pushed too hard. There seems to be about 6 or so non Catholics going this year (those like us who are in the 'black spot' where we're not close enough to get into any non faith school). Depending on where you are horniman school is lovely if you're on the hill or else if you're over the other side Goodrich might be nearby or maybe even Ivydale in nunhead now it's 4 form entry. But if you are on Devonshire, Boveney, bottom of Dunoon, bottom of hengrave, and that area, you may not be close enough to any other schools and your 'choice' might be cabrini by default.
  13. Best I've got is from Deptford high street, but also like Billings in Sydenham
  14. Hi, I saw one of your posters today by Kelvington rd, I'll fill in the consultation, good idea! We'd like our son to go to Chelwood nursery but don't fancy walking over the hill to get there twice a day!
  15. How about an East Dulwich forum express minibus from ED station to LB?
  16. What alternative route are you proposing?
  17. Bit further away but the rivoli ballroom in Crofton park?
  18. Anna has been super helpful to me about the school :)
  19. Also onion is surprisingly nutritious. We have courgette with nearly every meal because my husband loves it (quick story fry but also grate it into any tomatoey sauce). And my favourite veg is aubergine. Today I bought some cauliflower to make cauliflower couscous. Will report back.
  20. Try butternut squash 'spaghetti' from Tesco or sainsburys, good alternative to real spaghetti.
  21. My daughter is going to reception there and my neighbour has a child currently in nursery there who will be staying on. But I don't know anyone going to nursery next year.
  22. I usually go to St johns wood and walk down from there.
  23. In Honor oak I've thought they are lower and louder this week.
