  1. Hello, Since I downloaded iOS7 I've had woes. The latest thing is that the music from iTunes doesn't always have the artwork. It was fine after the download but since that time, when I sync the phone, the artwork disappears. Also, a cloud icon with an arrow pointing down from it appears against every track. Could someone explain what might be going on, in plain English? Thanks!
  2. One - one - young woman was being led away by two border police/agency people. Two more were on the door of Le Chardon. I asked why it took four people to take one person away. Embarrassed smiles and perfunctory claptrap followed. Oh, and then - comic gods be thanked - a fifth officer walked out to see what all the fuss was about.....
  3. At around midday I lost all my messages, which returned a few minutes later. I am on Tesco, which piggybacks O2.
  4. The site is already looking very tatty. There's a scrawled sign for removals that's been tagged up, lots of rotting planks of wood and the ubiquitous urban flotsam and jetsom of crisp packets, pop cans and cigarette boxes. If James B knows of which body is in charge, could he get them to keep it looking decent. Thanks.
  5. Clown refuge Orange liquid bottle refilling station New parents' buggy training school Charm school (proprietress: Louisa)
  6. Roll up, roll up! Come, delight at the slinky, speedy illegal bill-posters! Thrill at the cunning of the board-fixers and their amazing ways with any available fence, a lurid placard and plastic cable-ties! Fun for all the family!
  7. You can get some free on the NHS - hepatitis jabs, flu and meningitis (if you are in certain groups, though some docs let you have them for nothing).
  8. Agreed. I don't like being a moaning Minnie, but that amount of money and the time it took is shaming, even more so when the badly-designed result is what we got. James (or anyone else that can help) - what about all the muck, litter etc that's now been exposed on the slopes? Can the railway owners or the franchise operators clean this up? It's a right mess and just encourages others to add to it.
  9. I had a chat with one of the long-term waiters and he said there will be a bakery-cum-cafe moving in, but that some of the present staff might well stay, which bodes well for continuity. I asked him to pass on to the new owners that I didn't want a cookie-cutter, Luca's-style place so I hope it'll get heeded. If you like it as it is please ask the new people not to change it too much.
  10. Three places quoted me ?40, so I thought that was the going rate. Quotes in town were at least ?50. Will be happy - and surprised - if I could get it done for ?25. Anyone else got a better rate?
  11. It cost me ?40 to replace an iPhone 4 screen so am surprised that an iPad screen would a fair bit less that than that. Where abouts exactly is the place you mean, pps?
  12. Oh dear, here we go again. "Laid back" or its grimmer stablemate "pretty laid back" just means "clueless, gormless, can't be arsed" and is rampant in Britain. Why should cheap mean crap, or not as good as somewhere where you pay a few quid more? Cheap is good - I love Aldi, Netto, and the pound shops in Peckham; if they can be cheap, cheerful and clued-up, why not a cinema?
  13. Chips56 - Give me the details. It's still happening, though this might be someone different.
  14. Probably a dropped crisp packet/threatening-looking pigeon/criminally inclined hairball or other major threat.
  15. It might be the same one who is leaving bags of rubble and timber at the bin near the Summerhouse school on Goodrich Road. Not sure what you can do, apart from stake him out and confront him.
  16. Head for Petitou in neighbouring Peckham! You can sit outside, eat great salads, sandwiches, cakes and the service is good too. If you fancy a bevvy afterwards, you can go to the Montpelier.
  17. This post, and others like it, are informative but a bit ramshackle, given the format. Could someone in the know plesae summarise what is happening, what is likely to happen, what is not likely to happen, to Peckham Rye station and its environs. Thanks.
  18. They were put there 'temporarily' - which turns out to have been a lie - when extensive works were taking place some years ago. I can't see as they make the driving experience more pleasant, though I do understand that they might help with road safety for pedestrians.
  19. I think the street art initiative is a great idea, and I do usually have grave doubts about top-down projects delivered to/foisted upon residents by bien-pensant committee members. I'd like to see more and for the movement to be written about far and wide so that tourists - yes, tourists! - could come and see the works and spend a bit of money that wouldn't otherwise be spent here.
  20. "I counted about 3 or 4 police vehicles, a dog handling vehicle and two ambulances" -- pretty typical of the wasteful over-provision of officers that we see these days. One man, one dangerous dog = two or three coppers, an ambulance.
  21. Manda, Though you might think you are being all 'laid back and whatevs' and therefore a nice person, do think about the elderly, the hard of hearing, the blind, the deaf, the mentally handicapped and then reflect on whether cycling on the pavement is something to be discouraged.
  22. You're right, it's not on. 7525 2000 or 5000.
  23. Go for the immersion technique and do it at least twice a week, more if you can. Alternatively, save up and go and live with a teacher in France/Belgium where you will be obliged to think and speak in French. A couple of weeks would really help you.
