  1. I phoned the estate agents, and they contacted the sign companies they used. It took a week or so, but they went. Hoorah! A rare example of EDFite gumption (as opposed to the more usual "plea-to-person-who-did-XYZ-??".) More please!
  2. This produce is good for stopping the draughts from under the floorboards: http://www.stopg-p.co.uk/ I'd choose brown and not neutral unless your boards are really light in colour. I only heat the downstairs of the house, switching off all rads upstairs until an hour before I go to bed and close all doors even if I just leave the room for a few moments.
  3. Perhaps the bus shelters are being upgraded? I thought that the new Adshel ones - like the one near to Waterloo, at the Sainsbury's - had been deprived of its countdown but it took a few extra weeks for it to be put in.
  4. Branches x 3 on Goodrich, between CPR and Lordship. Thanks James.
  5. James - Re Sainsbury's: very little monitoring of parking between 1600 and 1900 from the usually cash-hungry wardens. Is there some kind of deal done between Sainsbury's (big employer) and the council (wants more jobs and investment)? Otherwise, why is there never a presence there when the buses and rest of the traffic snake back to Townley Road of an evening because two or three people have popped into Sainsbury's for whatever they need? Please, James, look into it and put my cynical mind at rest.
  6. "Handbagged" at the Tricycle Theatre is very good, especially if you're remotely interested in politics and/or the '80s. You can get there on the Jubilee Line very easily from London Bridge or on the Bakerloo Line. Top tickets are ?26 but the single seats on the balcony at the sides are very good value at around half that price.

  8. The money counting machines are great! They're fast and you don't have to pay a charge. I saved a piggybank's worth of silver and cashed it in. I thought I'd get about twenty quid but it was eighty-odd, and there was not even a mention of using my savings to open an account with Metro.
  9. I like the idea of pitching (!) in but when we're talking of a football field full of flotsam then it just doesn't compute. Sure - pick up the odd can or bottle near your house and put it in the nearest bin (which I do often) but rely on the council to get tough when there is serial abuse.
  10. Anyone got Series 2 on Blu-ray or DVD that I can borrow? Thanks.
  11. Hello, Since I downloaded iOS7 I've had woes. The latest thing is that the music from iTunes doesn't always have the artwork. It was fine after the download but since that time, when I sync the phone, the artwork disappears. Also, a cloud icon with an arrow pointing down from it appears against every track. Could someone explain what might be going on, in plain English? Thanks!
  12. One - one - young woman was being led away by two border police/agency people. Two more were on the door of Le Chardon. I asked why it took four people to take one person away. Embarrassed smiles and perfunctory claptrap followed. Oh, and then - comic gods be thanked - a fifth officer walked out to see what all the fuss was about.....
  13. At around midday I lost all my messages, which returned a few minutes later. I am on Tesco, which piggybacks O2.
  14. The site is already looking very tatty. There's a scrawled sign for removals that's been tagged up, lots of rotting planks of wood and the ubiquitous urban flotsam and jetsom of crisp packets, pop cans and cigarette boxes. If James B knows of which body is in charge, could he get them to keep it looking decent. Thanks.
  15. Clown refuge Orange liquid bottle refilling station New parents' buggy training school Charm school (proprietress: Louisa)
  16. Roll up, roll up! Come, delight at the slinky, speedy illegal bill-posters! Thrill at the cunning of the board-fixers and their amazing ways with any available fence, a lurid placard and plastic cable-ties! Fun for all the family!
  17. You can get some free on the NHS - hepatitis jabs, flu and meningitis (if you are in certain groups, though some docs let you have them for nothing).
  18. Agreed. I don't like being a moaning Minnie, but that amount of money and the time it took is shaming, even more so when the badly-designed result is what we got. James (or anyone else that can help) - what about all the muck, litter etc that's now been exposed on the slopes? Can the railway owners or the franchise operators clean this up? It's a right mess and just encourages others to add to it.
  19. I had a chat with one of the long-term waiters and he said there will be a bakery-cum-cafe moving in, but that some of the present staff might well stay, which bodes well for continuity. I asked him to pass on to the new owners that I didn't want a cookie-cutter, Luca's-style place so I hope it'll get heeded. If you like it as it is please ask the new people not to change it too much.
  20. Three places quoted me ?40, so I thought that was the going rate. Quotes in town were at least ?50. Will be happy - and surprised - if I could get it done for ?25. Anyone else got a better rate?
  21. It cost me ?40 to replace an iPhone 4 screen so am surprised that an iPad screen would a fair bit less that than that. Where abouts exactly is the place you mean, pps?
  22. Oh dear, here we go again. "Laid back" or its grimmer stablemate "pretty laid back" just means "clueless, gormless, can't be arsed" and is rampant in Britain. Why should cheap mean crap, or not as good as somewhere where you pay a few quid more? Cheap is good - I love Aldi, Netto, and the pound shops in Peckham; if they can be cheap, cheerful and clued-up, why not a cinema?
  23. Chips56 - Give me the details. It's still happening, though this might be someone different.
  24. Probably a dropped crisp packet/threatening-looking pigeon/criminally inclined hairball or other major threat.
  25. It might be the same one who is leaving bags of rubble and timber at the bin near the Summerhouse school on Goodrich Road. Not sure what you can do, apart from stake him out and confront him.
