Troll or not, antisocial behaviour on buses by all sorts of people is a problem and does deter people from using buses and trains. I don?t think it?s right to pretend it doesn?t happen and ignore realities. It happens everywhere, not just Peckham and it does annoy and even unnerve or frighten passengers or would-be passengers so don?t underestimate its pernicious effects.

Best Breakfast in East Dulwich/Peckham?
Nigello replied to DuncanW's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Blue Brick is great - veggie/vegan, with nice atmosphere and good amount of outside seating. -

All those initials will mean not much to many people, and normalising such conditions is made harder when there is this impenetrability. -
Don't underestimate the passengers' ability to make bus journeys poorer than they need to be. How many folk are so feared of heights that they congregate around the stairwell, or so claustrophobic they won't shift from the exit doors, or take up way too many spaces with their bags or arse around and act like it's their living room? Sounds trite, inconsequential but imagine how many people are making it that little bit less pleasant, perhaps making non-moronic passengers think twice about using the service, which then is seen to be less of use and then, poof, it's gone. Sure, the routes are in the hands of the route masters but they do take into account daily usage and I can't blame some people if they decide the bus is too much to be endured.

Anyone experience of complaining about dentistry under the NHS?
Nigello replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
I have not complained but think it is important to do so when aggrieved. Have you thought of CCing your MP (with all your contact details to get even an acknowledgement of receipt)? If not, then you could say you will be forwarding your answer to your MP and/or the relevant MP on the relevant committee - you will need to search that for up to date info. -

Nigello replied to jazzer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I very much think it will depend on who employed them and who pays their pension and whether they have resident rights, etc. Nuns and other clergy do not need to be placed above or below anyone else, even if they do give service, as applies to bus drivers, dental nurses, teachers, street cleaners, midwives, builders, radiologists, etc. etc. etc. -

If your faith is important, DIY! Ample time for instruction at home. Most folk are godless but dissemble to get better education - hardly the stuff of religious values. -

I am against religious schools though it?s never good when an established school has to go. -

Is it a state school? -
My neighbour has been waiting more than 9 months for installation with that council solar promotion. I think Covid did for it and I?m unsure you?d get installation within the promised timeframe.

Grass or homes? Hard choices for some. Too many people = old rules and norms have to be ditched.

Southwark - have council tax rebates been paid yet?
Nigello replied to CPR Dave's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
From my email query: Southwark Council are currently processing the all Direct Debit rebate payments. For all other payments invites to apply will be sent out shortly and you will be required to complete an on-line form and may need to provide additional information. You do not need to do anything now and will be contacted in due course. -
Saw a Large Red damselfly (caps to show it is a species, not just my description) in front garden, not near a big pond or stream. Quite a few Holly Blue butterflies - I think they were as the other blues don't fly so high or come out so early, it seems https://butterfly-conservation.org/butterflies/holly-blue

The Walworth Road is a lot less clogged than it used to be, as is C Green. The real slog is LL these days between M and S and the rail station. I prefer to walk much of that stretch and pick it up at the station.

I agree - the accessibilty for people on wheels has improved and I see more people using wheelchairs on buses than ever before, which does not mean things cannot be improved more. We cannot expect to have an almost bespoke service for anyone - in or out of a mobility device - when there are options that make the money go further - curtailed routes are not ideal but as long as you can change to anotehr service and not have to pay again, several times in the hour, be thankful and use any ire to write to your MP and transport minister. Enjoy the ride

Make use of the 1 hour grace period and hop on:off buses if necessary. Times are harder than usual for TfL.

Len - lollipop man Goodrich/Barry Road
Nigello replied to SingingWilks's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Perpahs they were concerned about falling foul of the newish laws on personal information being passed on? Perhaps the schools' local transport coordinators (or am I being naive?) could make contact with the family to find out more and offer to put out the news. I have no contact with the schools or the lollipop man, so if anyone here has, over to you. -
I agree that it is unfashionable and the opposite of virtue signalling to say it is preferable that adults (and children of a certain age) should be able to make simple meals to save money and to provide good nutrition. The seventies and eighties saw a lot of change but homemade meals were always there in a household where adults worked full time, even if the variety wasn't wide. Egg and chips (homemade from spuds, not from a packet), beans on toast, potato hash, fry up from Sunday lunch, jacket spuds and salad, Welsh rarebit, hotpot, finnan haddock and poached egg, etc. None took ages to make and none broke the bank.

Southwark - have council tax rebates been paid yet?
Nigello replied to CPR Dave's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Does amount have a phone No for the council tax department? I rang but Southwark main reception must have been having a little lie down when I phoned. No reply from a previous email sent to me. (I pay yearly with a CC so don?t have the option of being paid via DD rebate.) -
That?s a mistake. If it?s not, it ought to be. Tell them it?s not on! Takeaway tea is pretty poor value anywhere but adding a service charge is nasty! Vote with feet.

How can we stop this madness of tree felling in residential streets?
Nigello replied to Thunderblue600's topic in The Lounge
Some trees die and others may present future or current perils. I?m glad that the one chopped down near Summerhouse School had been replaced, though not with the same species. -
I agree with those that say all cats should wear a bell on a collar. It?s not a great hardship to thr cat and it could save wildlife. Cats can still prowl and pounce but at least the birds will have the chance of being alerted.

If you?re bothered about the non-collection of litter and/or insufficient number of bins in parks and open spaces, please email [email protected] If you CC your councillor it may help. A collector told me the other week they?d asked often for extra bins but their requests are not always acted on.
