Lloyd?s pharmacy Is closed today - 7 February

I don't like to add oil to the fire but yes, I avoid thsi place and have done for months. I just think it is poorly managed, though I do understand it is likely that Covid-19 has played its part. It is a pity because there never used to be this kind of problem even at the height of the pandemic and hardly ever before it. (It also has shutters that have been vandalised and not cleaned for years which makes it stick out like a sore thumb on the generally pleasant N X Road.) -
Straw poll - idling engines (buses, coaches, vans, etc.)
Nigello replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Delivery drivers (motorbike and vans) often idle the engines but only for small bursts at a time, but when you add up how many times they do so to do their jobs, it will be a sizeable period. Best to write an email or Tweet a complaint to say you have witnessed idling and want the firm to remind drivers it is wasteful, polluting and illegal. -
it is not needed, unless you are extremely clinical vulnerable (eg. undergoing cancer treatment) Studies show that three shots within a certain amount of time are likely to do the job. Maybe a booster will be needed every other year or so, but as of yet, three is your limit (unless you are one of the small number of people who are deemed by specialists to need such extra protection).

Straw poll - idling engines (buses, coaches, vans, etc.)

Some of the coach drivers (who hang around Gallery Road of a morning) have been civil; others have ignored me and others again did switch off but with a sneery look on their faces. Just imagine how many gallons of fuel and how much carbon are being wasted over the UK just through idling engines... -
Peckham Station Refurbishment

fishbiscuits - there is such a thing as professional and civic pride that cannot be measured against earnings, I think. Even if I did agree with you I would still wonder why the council does not do more to help such businesses. Other parts of the borough are much, much cleaner and have been, I think, systematically helped via some kind of intervention. Peckham deserves the same. tomskip - yes, it is a midden and looks/smells like the day after the end of days in parts. It is a great shame as it is lively and well-used and the shops are pretty varied and useful to many people. -
It is not antipathy towards cyclists that those who complain have, but only towards those who decide to disobey the law, perhaps citing common sense or having a child with them. More people are cycling (though it is hardly hear Netherlands levels and likely never will) and more are walking/using their wheelchairs, etc. so it stands to reason that there will be more examples of bad and illegal behaviour by all (and yes, that includes pedestrians crossing at non-designated points in the road, wearing all black when it is dark, etc.). So, to avoid that getting worse, just do your best to be rational and lawful. Every time a cyclist just nips through a red (see Dulwich Village) or rides on a footpath(everywhere) then it compounds the problem - people complain and are then branded anti-cyclist rather than anti bad behaviour from cyclists. If you are one of them, please don't.

Cora - why not complain to the centre itself, and why not check with them ahead of time to see whether your required services are offered? You only live a short way away, you say, so you could easily pop in. (The NHS is a great service but it can't provide a bespoke service or let us all know its options at all times.) I have had great service there but with any big, impersonal organisation I don't take it as read that things will go smoothly unless I do a bit of homework first.

Peckham Station Refurbishment

I disagree about C Green, Road. It?s much pleasanter there - much less muck and vandalism. Rye Lane is terribly under loved and the council seems to think it best to leave well alone which is a dereliction of duty to a poorer section of the borough. -
N I raise is needed to fund our health and social care - abotu time too and I would gladly pay another 1%.

Petition to provide HEPA filters in schools and colleges
Nigello replied to Jellybeanz's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks for that, Redpost - people need full information and costings before committing to a (seemingly) no-brainer solution. Public finances are not finite and this must be grasped - spending on X means less spending on Y. -
Peckham Station Refurbishment
Nigello replied to LivinSaarfMan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is a solution for some of the time. Doing nothing makes it worse - taht is a fact. Doing something clears it for a short time at the very least and may end up cheesing off the vandals so much they give in. It may seem like a hiding to nowhere but to do nothing is to accept defeat and business owners must take into consideration the fact they leave premises when they lock up and don't have to look at it as they are inside anyway. -
A stand in postie pushed loads through today. I chatted to them - come from a town at least a hundred miles away and said Peckham was a right mess with trays and trays of old mail. Sickness from Covid and stress, etc. Offered to boss to do the same tomorrow - paid for from time of getting on train or bus, etc. to leaving said transport mode back at home town. Pretty lucrative but needs must, I suppose. (Don't want to say male or female or where from exactly as not fair.)

Peckham Station Refurbishment
Nigello replied to LivinSaarfMan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Leaving it to the world to do as it wishes is not a good idea. A very, very, very small minority of "citizens" are the litterers, fly tippers, vandals so you cannot just shrug your shoulders and say "well, that is the way it is" - too easy and not responsible for a council to do that. Letting teh vandals rule the roost is not a way forward. -

How lovely! I hope, though, it does not end up like the semi-midden that is the rest of Rye Lane, which ought to have a council committee all to itself to make sure it is free of all the blights it has. Can you imagine Lordship Lane or Camberwell Road/Green being allowed to look like Rye Lane, with the litter, shop waste and vandalism? I suppose it is ok, because poor people don't need to be fussed about a friendly, clean and welcoming place to shop and socialise...? The station may well look great in the end and will be very welcomed but will stick out like a sore thumb if the nearby areas are not returned to an acceptable state. -
A red/white sign has been put up at Dulwich Library but I am confused as to why, as it gives times yet we all know that if you go down Court Lane or Woodwarde you can't get onto Dulwich Village anyway. Is this sign, then, referring to another time-restricted route?

On Dawson's Hill I think was/is an owl - it hooted, not screeched but IDNK which kind it is. The Lake at D Park had a cormorant resting high up in a tree the other day.

Kindness is NOT the solution to everything, and it certainly does not stop you from being in or causing an accident. Rationality and facts and an awareness that there are thought-out rules and laws will get you much further than a Hallmark card epithet.

I have NO problem with children riding on the footpath, as I stated in my previous post. Using children as an excuse to do so, rather than showing them the optimal way - getting off and pushing - is what I object to.

No, she is living her best life and being unapologetically etc. etc. etc. zzzz

As for those who insist it is a myth to say that plenty of cyclists don't go through reds - in the space of 10 seconds, three did just that, even when they have their own dinky little lights and sequencing, at D Village. Spend all that money and see what you get...
