? There is violence that derives from two men trying to go illegally through a barrier ,commonly referred to as LTN although that actually means the area rather than the means to make it low-traffic. It is shorthand - please don't see it as anything more than that. Sheesh - talk about sensitive! The men were told no to go through by well-meaning citizen/nosy parker, depending on your point of view, got arsey and violent. Up to you whether you prefer to discount facts and/or put a motive on the article writer and/or EDF poster.

18/10 was the date announced by the council a few weeks ago. -

Some send a label and then collect. Worth a quick search to see which are operating here in London.

CANCELLED-Community Clean- Homestall Road and Peckham Rye Park
Nigello replied to rachp's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
HIya - I pick up a fair bit of litter (cans and bottles mainly) along the side of Colyton Road, park side, especially nearer to the girls' school. Some of it is hidden by bushes, etc. I don't have a picker-upper so only touch the surface so maybe the hard to reach ones are for you and your volunteers! -
Given it?s not a legal requirement and that most adults are double jabbed I can see why people don?t automatically think they need to wear one if they?re a tradesperson. If you?re concerned ask that they do so, ideally a day before they arrive. As for the shoes, most people I know and have ever known don?t take their own shoes off or ask me to do so. It?s your house so just ask visitors to do what you?d like them to do and don?t rely on people picking up on messages they?re unlikely to intuit.

Another barbershop? There is a lot of competition already so I hope it does well.

Are there similar reports on walking/wheelchair use alone, ie. not lumped in with "cycling, scootering, etc."?

Yes, they like the crabapples near me and are very largely silent, unlike the green flying devils! I saw two dunnocks out back the other day but have not seen a jay, blackbird or finch for months.

Rye Lane reopening to buses, but permanent closure still looms
Nigello replied to IainJ's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Councillors and officers sometimes seem to live in the flat-but-joyous images that adorn plans for communal spaces, leisure centres, transport interchanges, and as such like to believe that such pictures are reality. How anyone could think removing public transport in an area where locals are much less likely to cycle than in adjoining (richer) areas, let alone one which has a busy rail station hitherto served by five or more routes from all compass points, baffles me. Cycles, buses and limited commercial vehicles can easily live together; people don't want to feel that their mode of transport is being promoted or demoted so don't segregate where it is unnecessary. Cycling is great but not for everyone by a long chalk and provision of public transport on main thoroughfares (especially where an important rail hub is situated) is egalitarian and progressive, as well as making economic sense. -
I don't think that is correct, muffins. I believe all people getting a third jab get the same amount. (I asked the man giving the jab, third time.) Please let us know how you came to find out what you wrote. (I trust those who administer the jabs but I am curious all the same.)

Dead soldier memorial disappointment
Nigello replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks - I asked here because I got no reply from my emails, etc. -
The tree in the circular bench in Dulwich Village, near the post office, has once again been cut down. I have asked, via emails and Twitter, the Dulwich Society what has happened and what the plan for a replacement is but have had no answer a week on. Any idea as to who may be polite enough to respond? Thanks

Will Southwark ever collect my garden/food waste bin again?
Nigello replied to a_m's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Seems like people in council accommodation don't like/haven't been fully told about/CBA to recycle their food waste. If only 14 percent are doing it, making up for 2% of compostable food waste total, then I agree it makes little sense for the council to extend it, unless they impose fines. -
Rye Lane reopening to buses, but permanent closure still looms
Nigello replied to IainJ's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A railway station needs a bus stop (or two) as near as possible to it to make it easier for people to use public transport and different modes thereof. Buses can hold up to 60+ people; Peckham Rye station is on at least 5 routes, so the amount of people being made to walk an unacceptably long way now is way more than cyclists using Rye Lane (I would estimate). The Lane could do with wider pavements, I agree, but letting business owners cover at least 1/3 of the space with their wares (as can be seen at the station) is a surefire way of decreasing that valuable space that is for public, not private use. Not that many people cycle, compared to bus and/or train users. Cyclists being diverted or encouraged to go down the back route would add a minute to their journey but buses being sent around the back adds many more minutes to passengers' journeys. -
Electricity and gas prices going up - what will you do?
Nigello replied to Nigello's topic in The Lounge
Filing kettles with just the right amount of water should be a norm, as should turning off lights when not in use and turning down the thermostat on the boiler, the rads and the wall. Full length curtains and floorboard gap fillers also help, as well as an openness to the idea of donning an extra layer when it gets chilly. I now switch off the shower when I?m lathering which should also reduce my water bill. -
I completely agree that a better-than-we-have-now public transport option is needed to entice people from their cars. Cycling, walking, e-scootering (thought is is far from being an advert for them) all have their place but zippy mini-buses perhaps linking up with a light rail or guided bus system would be a good solution for this part of S London.

Turn off lights, heat fewer rooms, buy less expensive food. -

So, to go back to the thread title, what will you all do? Put on an extra jumper? Eat more hot soup? Stop buying things you don't need but like to have? Cancel Christmas? -
In the past I have used Boots and Superdrug, usually early in the day, and have managed to be seen. I think it is poor that DMC have not been in touch at all, despite their usually being very prompt regarding flu jabs.

Just go to the Day Lewis chemist's opposite - you'll likely get it done there and then.
