  1. I think 9 pages of 'nasty little thread' could be expected when calling a venue Pussey Liquour. I don't think anyone was or is trying to sabotage a business, in fact the thread has arguably had a positive impact. Opinions changed, users now saying they might try Platform 1, brand recall improved. PS JenF - Shop looked super busy this weekend. Great atmosphere out on the benches too. :)

It's quite OK for a brand to be open and agile and respond to its customers/potential customers and just say: "We admit it guys, our name was gash, we changed it!" Fair play for making the change though, must have been a tough decision to make.
  3. Used to live in Clapham, moving to Croydon just stopped off at the EDF in between. /S
  4. That's very encouraging Otta, we loved South Croydon but were outbid on a number of houses down that way. And it moved out of reach during our search. I hope Addiscombe will be equally friendly. All encounters with neighbours during visits have been very warm. 5. Thanks for your support Jeremy. I'll see you for some nosh in Pussey Liquor to say thanks! There's no where better for eating out. Snarf, Snarf. 6. I have not eaten the food. It looks good, smoke and salt know what they are doing. I've also not commented on the food - I haven't tried it. I have commented on other things that have stopped me trying the food. I don't intend to write a review until I have eaten the food. That doesn't stop me letting you know why I haven't been based on other factors. The only way to get reviews online is by getting people through the door. At the moment it seems like Joe Public does not feel comfortable going through the door. A real shame. Anyway, seems like either I'm being trolled, or we are on different sides of a fence. I am going to have to get over myself and pop in after payday to try the food. Then I can give an opinion on the inside as well as the outside.
  7. Complete codswallop. I haven't made comment about anything that I haven't tried.

Il Mirto has never appealed to me because I am offended by the colour purple. Artusi, named after one of the pioneers of Italian cooking, is a stupid name for a place to eat Italian food. I can't find a translation for the word Begging Bowl in thai. Etc. Etc. Etc. I don't tend to have to shell out ?40 for a lucky dip/present. I have never suggested that PL is illegitimate or seedy, merely that its frontage, name and menu do not encourage me to explore further. MattC2885 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As I've said a couple of times I can't believe > that people would make a judgement on a > restaurant, having never tried their food but > because of trivial things like name, frosted glass > or the font they chose to print their menus. I can't believe that you would be so short sighted to think that these things aren't part of the restaurant, and as important as getting the food right. If you are ever involved in starting a business I hope that you consider marketing and design in your plans because they really are important. It is possible to smash it with pop-up restaurants in awkward locations - look at Forza Win - but it needs some clever thinking and a coherent story to attract the kind of leap-of-faith that you (or PL) are asking.
  9. If you'd read my earlier post MattC it is quite clear it is not the name that puts me off. The name is part of a wider problem that includes the way they have printed their menus, the way that you can't see into the restaurant and the way that it is unclear what to expect when opening the door. I'm pretty "well travelled" for someone interested in local restaurants. But not sure how you know how well travelled I am, or why it has anything to do with pusssssaaaayyy!
  10. " Well done Pussey Liquor for generating conversation via a little controversy. This is a well known, tried and tested strategy to raise the profile of a restaurant or bar.....and is working a treat! " All publicity is good publicity. That old chestnut. I'm interested in local restaurants, I want to support local businesses, I want to eat good food. Despite all of that I am very hesitant to go to Pussey Liquor. I think that's noteworthy. It may also help an owner understand their potential customers. It could well be that PL is trying to put the likes of me off. But as a pop up visiting, food blogging, instagram addicted, free spending, ED Blow-In I kind of doubt it.
  11. The problem is when you're a restaurant that relies on people going through the door, having a door that no one wants to go through is a problem. IT's very hard to tell whether you are going to enjoy yourself in Pussey Liquor from the street. The Placement of the menu is awkward, you can't see the space you'll be eating in and the name doesn't give any clue at what to expect. Let's pretend for a moment the place is called "unicorn binlid" - it would still not be somewhere that i'd be heading into out of curiosity. The idea is good, unfortunately I feel the execution is lacking at the moment. I wish them much success though, and it's not too late to change.
  12. We're making the exodus to Croydon where, for the price of a studio in East Dulwich, we can afford a two bed house with garden. Commute will be shorter, the area is nowhere near as bad as its reputation (and yes, I have lived there) and trips to Gatwick/South Coast when it all gets too much are very convenient. I'm excited, but I'll miss ED.
  13. Sorry LondonMix, it looked like there were extensive renovations/new signage being installed when I walked past last night. I presumed it was a different shop not an update to Tierra Verde. 14. Amazing tiling above what looks to be a new spanish deli on North X road, anyone got any more info?
  15. We have found James at Glazer Delmar to be both quick and helpful. Added benefit of knowing you can go and knock on the door should the need arise. So far very impressed.
  16. Not a cheap shop generally but often their price per kilo on seasonal basics - Tomatoes, potatoes etc. is better than village grocer + free herbs.
  17. Why do you think your Ozzy visitor will want to eat a Crocodile?
  18. There is a regular training route for this kind of police operation that runs down Old Kent Road through Dulwich, often with empty cars.
  19. I will also be going to the event at SOAS in September @Alec John Moore. Looks like a good line up.
  20. Maybe the incident @Dulwichlad850 describes is a separate incident in which these serial young offenders picked on a woman who reacted in a more heated fashion? Sounds like it wasn't a one off volley of abuse the little tikes were spewing. Absolutely no need to question the testimony of Mrs Dadof4.
  21. Pure Gym Bermondsey is easy to get to on the P12, or by walking for 30mins or so. It is ?20 a month and I have found it to be very clean and superbly well equipped.
  22. I read Sue's response as trying to be friendly (the smiley emoticon gave me this impression) and I didn't read it as an attack of you Foxy, but more as a comment that it is good to have a mix of people. Those who are loyal to their locals and those that try the new openings, move about, or like different things on different days. Local businesses need both of these types of people to grow, thrive and hopefully survive. It's a shame you feel like it was an attack on you (I understand why you might, I've seen plenty of unwaranted negativity towards you on the Forum) but in this case I do think you have overblown the comment to feel unfairly judged. Sue, If I am misrepresenting your intentions then I am happy to stand corrected. Dulwich Fox, keep your head high and do what you do, drink where you want, and eat where you want. Try not to read everything as a 'knock' most of us appreciate your input.
