    a joke

A man is shipwrecked and is the only survivor. When he wakes up, he's on a beach. The sand is purple. He can't believe it. The sky is purple. He walks around a bit and sees that there is purple grass, purple birds and purple fruit on the purple trees. He`s shocked when he finds that his skin is starting to turn purple, too. "Oh no!!" he says, "I think I`ve been marooned!!"
  2. I hope Dominic Finnegan is not involved in the planning process because from my experience of dealing with him he's not very good with facts. Actually, no he won't be as he no longer works there. hmmm, is this too confrontational? I think there maybe a chance that he still does work there... The twat.
  3. oh no, the red new e.g. new means the whole thread is new or there are new messages in that thread since you last looked. If you click the red new it will take you to the first of the unread messages. The blue new is a browser specific thing, if you've click on the red new or have read the last messages then clicked the back button on the browser then you'll probably see it.

I hope that helps to clear it up. How much is a taxi to the airport?
  5. ahh, I see. Sorry, trying to juggle writing on the forum with work makes for hasty reading today. You obviously felt uneasy, it's your door, your house so you did the right thing. What did they look like? Please share their details so we can look out for them. And what did they do after you closed the door? In future I will read posts properly and then respond In future I will read posts properly and then respond x 100
  6. seanmlow Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The fact they were approaching the door. Why knock > on her door, rather than ask a passer by? Maybe there were no passers by. If it was a scam they would have said something like "we've run out of petrol, and need to pick my children up from school and have no cash, could you lend me ?10 and I'll pay you back tomorrow when I drive past on my way to hospital to see my poor mother. I would ask my best friend, (insert made up name here), who lives 5 doors down from you but she's not in" etc etc But they came to the door, asked where the nearest petrol station was then walked off.
  7. I don't get it, they came to your door, asked where the nearest petrol station was and you told them. What's there to be paranoid about?
  8. Just to go back on something I said earlier, the Seacow was open this evening when I walked past.
  9. Dan or Paul, I see you fuel your vehicles on bio-diesel from the left over cooking oil, if you have any spare please let me know, I'd like to use it in my car. ps Louisa, fish and chip shops are shut on Sundays [edited once]
  10. Louisa you don't half talk shite sometimes. The owners of the Sea Cow go to Billingsgate market to get their fish, then you can choose the fish from the front counter how is that "pretending to be fresh"? And don't forget that if the Sea Cow did do pies and sausages then they would be competing directly with Emilys and Semas, who may lose customers, then maybe have to close, then you could complain that the pesky middle classes have killed/destroyed/wiped them out etc etc. Be careful what you wish for.
  11. Emilys on Northcross Road probably does that Louisa, go there instead.
  12. well, I did say cool-lee and chips but in a "I'm not sure how to say it" way so was corrected by the guy serving me (sorry, not sure if it was Dan or Paul). He also gave me a free, small pot of tartare sauce and asked that I let him know what I think of the fish. Which was nice.
  13. I tried tried the coley* last night and I liked it. It's not as big and flaky as cod but it has a subtle flavour and although thinner served up well in a nice batter. As *bob* said it's a lesser fish than cod but then that was reflected in the price (?4 with chips take away) but still made for a good portion of fish & chips, which is what I as after. I say give it a go. * it's pronounced "coe-lee" by the way, not collie or cooly

  15. Hi It's not been a good week for the technical wizardry that goes on in the background of the forum, earlier this week it was really slow then today at about a quarter to 2 it collapsed for 15 - 20 minutes. This maybe due to the computer that the forum runs on being upgraded but these things happen when you try to make things better so hopefully you'll see improvements in speed and efficiency further down the line. Sorry about that, apparently these things happen in threes so something else may happen but the Administrator is on the case when possible. In the meantime please carry on using and enjoying the forum and bear with us if the site seems a bit temperamental. regards Mark

    Slow Forum

post up here if it's still really slow and I'll get someone to look into it, and apologies for the slowness earlier

    Slow Forum

it's really slow for me too. By the way, it was actually Admin who posted the message before and is now keeping an eye on it although I've been assured there's a team of screwdriver-wielding super-techies looking at the problem
  19. We popped in too on Sunday, the fact there were no ales meant the ale drinker in our party wasn't happy so we left after a Guinness. The new layout makes use of the whole space but there are dead areas around the place and it could do with more tables and chairs (they should go and ask in the Green if they're getting rid of their furniture). It's still in it's infancy and it's a great old pub so we'll go back soon to see how it's doing soon. Oh yes, the music was very good with Chantoozie singing. Her website plays her music which we had on at home before we went out. Nice.
  20. The best and most sensible option is top put a sniper with a laser gun on a nearby rooftop to zap people and their cars who park outside Costcutters on the corner and the outside Bishop causing holdups. Or a mini roundabout. I believe they're going to put a pedestrian crossing outside Somerfield.
  21. hmmm, the people who I host the server with moved servers a couple of days ago but assured me there would be no issues. As Sean said the new thing can be a bit temperamental, trying going to the home page http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/index.php?4 and clicking "Reset new posts" next to all the headings, this will obviously start afresh but might make things better until I find out exactly what's wrong. I'll do a clean up of the system tonight to see if things improve but please let me know when a problem happens so that I can report it, if you could let me know: 1) the url/website address you were going to e.g. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?9,84658 2) the time you did it 3) what error message you got then we can look at the log files for that time and try to match things up. Thanks for letting me know.

  23. After about email number 5 I started to think maybe I had approached them with an offer three years ago and then started to question whether he had a point. Fortunately I cc'd a lawyer friend in on the emails and she said the guy's a prick and is talking out of his arse, there's no way he could have been legally advised saying what he said. That reassured me.
  24. I thought I would share this with you, a month or so ago I got this email: -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Lordshiplane.com Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2007 14:04:18 -0000 From: Dom To: Mark Just to inform you that lordshiplane.com is back with its original owners and will recommence as a community forum as it was in 2005. We still have the emails of the offer of hosting from you. You even switched to your new ISP! No Regards Dom I've never heard of this guy so I ignored it. And I have to point out that I am happy that this has nothing to do the Dulwich Garden Centre, although the guy who wrote this says he is from there, he was talking rubbish.
