  1. It's certainly bright in there. The wheelchair racing still appears to be going on. If it's not going to be the old guys, then as they've done with the pub, it'd be great if it was made into an actual cafe/deli (assuming it won't be used for station facilities) - with seats to have in, as well as take away (a hatch onto the stairs?) and some seats outside. Denmark Hill has nowhere decent for a coffee.

  4. I love this thread. Might a big group of lads on a big night out have been guarding the toilets and ensuring who came in and out for another reason?
  5. By the looks of things, the old ticket hall has been stripped, painted and abandoned with a stray wheelchair or two. James - can you find out what plans are for this?
  6. citykid Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hoping to see a tree, or a few trees in the area. > Xmas trees and decorations = Xmas shoppers X money > spent in the local area :-) Good point. I agree with the overall sentiments on Christmas being overhyped and early and tedious - but if it improves consumer morale and drives traffic to local, independent businesses then surely a tree + the leccy is a reasonable investment? Surely that is more important than some grumbles.
  7. Yes exactly - the changes were the same for both stations. Stats are out of date for both but they are fair as cover the same period. I'd expect both stations to go up a lot when the next batch are released with the ELL included. Considering Peckham has 8-12 extra trains per hour (to/from London Bridge) then Denmark Hill is clearly far busier. Due to Kings, it probably has a lot more off peak use.
  8. It's pretty busy. More so than any other close by. According to the stats on Wikipeadia, it gets 3.7m per year. Compare to 1.8m at East Dulwich and just 3.2 at Peckham Rye (which gets both sets of trains). Herne Hill is 2.8m and has a pretty sizeable footprint. Nobody is asking for a shopping mall - just decent facilities matching its station (excuse the pun) and matching similar sized stations on other TOCs or Tube/TfL run.
  9. Thanks for the reply. So if no cash machine or additional ticketing, what else will be filling the original ticket office (other than coffee stall) ? FYI - here is the work at West Hampstead, which I've mentioned. Almost identical layout and set up - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=west+hampstead+thameslink&client=firefox-a&hs=qc9&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=s8N7UoneJMiAhAeTooHwCA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=894&bih=379#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=ijhIv6QBhfvifM%3A%3ByM8aI6lbPslEfM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fs3-media3.ak.yelpcdn.com%252Fbphoto%252Fka5wtftlyGHX-nW6YEyXfg%252Fl.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.yelp.co.uk%252Fbiz_photos%252Flandolt-and-brown-london-4%253Fselect%253Dka5wtftlyGHX-nW6YEyXfg%3B600%3B324
  10. James - can you find out the final plans please? What additional (Oyster) ticketing provision there will be? Many miss trains due to the singular machine. Cash machine? Coffee shop back?
  11. What happened with this? I hope you continued the appeal, and didn't pay up like a melt?
  12. If in the bus lane, it's likely there are cameras. As it is illegal not to stop after an accident, you could report to the police and then they might be able to access the CCTV? Certainly take that approach with your call to them, and see if they cooperate. If not, call the police.

  14. BicBasher - but I don't have a photocard. I have an Oyster card like most Londoners. One time when the queue was ridiculous, my train was imminent and the ticket man was twiddling his thumbs - he wouldn't sell me a weekly because of the photocard issue. So I skipped it and bought one in Victoria, having talked my way out of the barriers there. They are completely archaic within the TfL area. Ticket offices should be uniform within Tfl zones, regardless of TOC and station management, fundamentally they should offer Oyster.
  15. You represent us all democratically! Go forth and clip... Seriously though, why the new entrance doesn't connect with the new footbridge (on both sides) to help distribute traffic and lessen many people's walks is a complete joke. James - can you petition for the final scope to be released so that we can make requests for works to amend and improve further? It's such a busy station these days.

It's > only from London Overground managed stations that > the changes were made to Oyster only. You need a photocard still - obselete. And they've also stopped doing weekly paper Travelcards, so again not so useful. The only role the ticket office staff have these days is to tell people to use the machine as they don't do Oyster. Useless.
  17. Who is Mario? The pop-up recently was by the Tinello folk (of Pimlico). If they opened something in SE15, that would be incredible.
  18. Having them closed is good for evaders, but also for accurate metrics about station usage! Only then will Southeastern/TfL/whoever spend money on improvements, or have more trains stop (several Victoria trains pass through at around 8:05-10am during a gap in service). Any news on the paint job of the stairs? What is the final plan there, including the original entrance? I read that in 2014, station management will pass from Southeastern to the new Thameslink franchise company. Going by their work at West Hampstead Thameslink (which I've mentioned on here as an almost identical station format) - it can only be a good thing. They're seemingly more generous on ticket machines (Oyster!) too.

Train from Denmark Hill or Peckham Rye is an easy way to get there. Sadly that train doesn't run after about 7:30/8pm so useless for a return journey. Might be quickest to go via London Bridge at night, silly as it looks on a map. Or train and then swap onto a bus at New Cross or Lewisham maybe.

Hence why most people have hedges above that 1 metre - which is a de facto fence of your choice but without any faff.
  22. Did that include 8 car platforms so that the Dartford - Victoria trains could stop there too?
  23. That's usually other women, no? I've found in my experience, they're last to offer.
  24. Any more details on the Ivanhoe incident? This Suburu seems to be popping up everywhere but the spread from Upland/Underhill area to Sydenham, Beckenham and then back up to Ivanhoe Rd is a bit random. Probably, sadly, more than one lot at it.
  25. Could it split at Camberwell into two branches? A short one to Denmark Hill (station) and then East Dulwich. Possibly on to Dulwich (by the Plough) and Forest Hill/Catford. And then another along Peckham Road to New Cross Gate or Lewisham. An east-west station could maybe link the two New Cross stations underground, like Moorgate and Liverpool Street will be on Crossrail? Bakerloo is 24 trains an hour, so 12 an hour each? And if that could increase with the resignalling, then all the better. I think taking over a longer line isn't a great idea. Tubes are for zones 1-3 or 4 at a push ideally, especially the smaller trains like the Bakerloo.
