It's not an independent business like a deli, which I'd expect to use low wages, kids, relatives etc - it's a successful chain operating in affluent areas. I would happily avoid such chains not paying the LLW if I had the list. Peckham Plex is a different beast entirely.

I notice that Mr Social Media Engagement has swerved this twice now. Definitely has a bearing on whether or not I'll use them (or the Ritzy again).

I'm just surprised a UKIP thread has gone on this long without 'BLIAR' or 'ConDem' being mentioned. They eventually slither in to every online discussion with their rabid nonsense.

Ivanhoe lock-ups?

Murder on Goodrich Road (Anybody heard anything about this?)
cle replied to Emmett's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Disgusting that people want to know about a murder in their neighbourhood. -
Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible
cle replied to Grotty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is also the assumption that people would be able to afford more over time... ?200 p/m over 2 years is about a 4k increase in salary. Not much. Depends on the sector of course, but this is London and that upwards trajectory is not unrealistic by any means. -
(3 pairs of welly boots) theft - glengarry road

The most upsetting part for me is trying to understand how over 12 hours passed without a 'sole' gag... -

Would love a Cath Kidston. -

Thinking something like the Almeida, but a bit less gritty. And space for workshops and things like ballet classes and baby yoga. -

The area could really do with a lovely little rep theatre, with a cafe/bar but kiddie friendly. -
Revised new - M&S planning application to replace Iceland..
cle replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Would have much preferred a Waitrose by the station compared to the planned Morrison's. It's seriously skanky there currently. The new one at Vauxhall would probably fit in the East Dulwich deli premises...just saying. Iceland is not for my tastes, but I do appreciate it serves a purpose for others. And the M&S plans were too much and detrimental on balance. -
Suspicious man - Belvoir, Underhill & Melford Road
cle replied to Laur's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If people are able to watch safely and unseen for a little while, and there is no doubt the person is acting suspiciously, they should try to take a picture. -
Fully agree Clockwork Orange. I do worry for the Peckham Refreshment Rooms though...and the businesses in the arches.

It is ludicrous. It doesn't even stop at Vauxhall, which might have been vaguely useful. Even if it does go to Clapham Junction one day, they already have about 50 trains each hour to Waterloo and Vauxhall! I hate the Northern line compared to others, but certainly wouldn't kick it out of bed. Camberwell would have been such a natural extension from Kennington. A station running under C New Road could have interchanged with a new Thameslink station by The Bear at one end, with a station at the Green at the other end.

There isn't anywhere in LL which does proper 'third wave' coffee I believe. All pint of latte and slice of cake with room for a buggy...

See Nine Elms and why that bloody Northern Line extension is going there instead of down Camberwell New Road or Brixton Road, for example.

Those trains go to Gravesend and Gillingham, Kent surely even if Bexleyheath and Hayes don't count these days. 2tph sure, but on about three different routes - Victoria, Charing Cross, Cannon St... Harrow & Wealdstone has nothing to do with future extensions and what they should do, and who's talking Sunday afternoons? Maybe the Bexleyheath Forum is more for you.

Those London Bridge/Lewisham lines places do not need the links as much. Their trains are frequent and fast compared to 'South Central' places. Overground onwards from New Cross makes sense though, it's a white elephant currently. The Bakerloo is a tiny tube and should terminate in zone 3 rather than take over outer and Kent routes. Also, the lines would cause delays to each other. Even Earls Court and Edgware Road on the District prove that tubes should be self-contained - Northern line another clusterf*ck too e.g. Camden. What housing is going to be build in the Old Kent Road? Is 2.5k homes that big a deal compared to the existing population of Walworth and Camberwell? I hate this obsession with regeneration and new developments - god forbid anyone builds something to serve a long-standing area. I know it's for developer money primarily, but also an obsession with shiny new rubbish. Are there no developer-ready sites along the Walworth Road catchment?

I love this world of caricatures and ES Homes & Property 'which tribe are you?' quizzes. Everyone else in the area can be broken down, homogenised and debased to fit in a box. How about you Louisa? Where do you fit in? How about the 'working classes' who were the blow-ins to the middle class area? Like Jamaicans 'blew in' off the Windrush to a then-middle class Brixton? Are they are as drab a group as the poshos and trendies, or are they pluralistic, plucky spirits who cannot be pigeon-holed?
-
The Bakerloo runs 24 trains each hour - and most tube lines can do 28-32 during the rush. Let's say 28 for argument's sake. Could there not be two branches each with 14 trains per hour - a pretty good number and better than the District line or Met line branches, or Hammersmith & City? One could go to Walworth, Camberwell, Denmark Hill, East Dulwich, Dulwich Library and Forest Hill. One could go down Old Kent Road to New Cross Gate, Lewisham and onwards somewhere, like Catford in between the two existing stations? Does leave Peckham out though. Goes to show how much South London needs the tube if we're spoilt for choice on routes. North London has no such dilemmas or gaps.

If the goings-on in the area are irrelevant or odd on this forum, then what is it for exactly? And why are you on it, lane lover? And it transpires to be a stabbing. Surely of interest to everybody in the area?
