British people are very fortunate to have the NHS. So why do a lot of them have hideous teeth? They should be able to visit a dentist and have their nashers seen to and have free/subsidised treatment if they are on a low income. Gum disease can lead to bacterial infection which can cause all sorts of other problems. Smoking and drinking can lead to oral cancers. It's so bizarre to me when I hear people boasting that they haven't been to the dentist in 'years' as if that is something to be proud of. More education is needed.

Bob, can you post a picture of your teeth as you seem to be obsessed with them. I'd rather look at a set of veneers than at a Brit's rotting, stained and yellow teeth. Sure, some veneers might look a bit too new and perfect but that is preferable to what you quite often see in this small island, and that includes Scotland.

Ginge has more than one meaning, as in ginger beer .........if I had that colour hair I would prefer to be called titian or red.

You didn't say what kind of flooring you have. Can you plug up the place where the smoke is coming in? I take it you are an owner/occupier? What status do the people downstairs have? Tenants? If so who is their landlord as I would contact them as well.

Hey, there is a London, Ontario, which is in Canada in case you didn't know........stop being cultural snobs.

Is it coming through the floorboards? Perhaps you could insulate further. Might be worth contacting environmental health at Southwark as well to ask their advice. I had neighbours next door who smoked a lot. The smell came up through the understairs cupboard floorboards and underneath the door to cupboard. I insulated the floor and it helped a lot.

Fox poo smells absolutely foul and a lot different to dog or cat poo. Cats usually bury their deposits so it is probably fox poo.

Shallow water in large shallow pan and put the kitchen roll under the slotted spoon before you put the egg on the toast or wherever else you eat it with. I read recently about using the cup method as well. It is important to allow some of the simmering water into the cup before you slide the egg into the pan. If I can't be faffed with poaching then I spray a non stick pan with Fry Light spray you can get (only 1 calorie a spray) and do a fried egg in there. Tastes great without swimming in grease.

Outnumbered is sublime. Gavin and Stacey makes my ears bleed and my head hurt. Alison Steadman overacts. I detest James Corden. Larry Lamb should just stay in Eastenders. It's like the James Nesbitt effect, they're in too many places. Although I doubt many people could beat his ability to be so overexposed.

People who want the world to overhear their conversations

Did they look like banksters? -
If you put your cat in a basket/carrier and cover the front with gauze/fabric so dogs can't see in then the cat should feel more comfortable. Don't put them in one of those cage type see through carriers.

Store potatoes in brown paper or newspaper in a cool dark place; drawer or cellar if you have one. This way they don't sprout or go green which they do if you store them in plastic/daylight. Oh to have an old fashioned larder. Also, don't store your tomatoes in the fridge, keep at room temperature. Much tastier that way.

Echoing rgutsell's post above, I wouldn't want to buy near a pub(s). I would check out any area you want to buy in at night to see the noise level.

I encountered him on Northcross Road a few weeks ago. He wasn't there last week. Does anyone know where else he hangs out and when. The onions I bought from him are fabulous. Not too strong and they caramelise really well. Also good in salads.

Mr. Sparkes told me today they are deffo looking for ED premises and preferably not too close to WR. He also said it was very difficult to find someone good to train as a butcher. He said it takes about 5 years to become qualified.

Would you allow your newborn to appear on TV prog?
cate replied to Polly D's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Usually new borns are identical twins as they can be filmed for longer when there are 2. Babes get paid as do accompanying guardians. Each babe have a guardian. Food on film sets is usually very tasty! -
Thanks for all the suggestions. I wonder which would be fastest at that time of night. I do know Streatham High Road is terrible most evenings.

I am forced to go there tomorrow. Can someone please tell me the best way to get there by car? I would be leaving about 730 pm. Any shortcuts? I don't have a Satnav. Thanks. Edited due to typo.

This place is not in ED but nearby in Camberwell. They also have a stall at Borough Market. It's called the Cinnamon Tree Bakery(website available) and I tried one of their brownies last week. Very similar to the ED Deli ones, only bigger and they have some white chocolate bits in them. They will do mail order but unfortunately you can't pick up from Camberwell. They also supply to some retail outlets in London, but none in East Dulwich. Tom's in Westbourne Grove is one retail outlet. They only cost ?1.50 at Borough.

Re the following three months, that's because the burglars assume you will have re-stocked your house with the goodies that have been stolen. I've been burgled before, so my commiserations to anyone who has had that unfortunate experience.

Aggressive dog in Peckham Rye Park Sunday morning
cate replied to first mate's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can you give more of a description of the dog and owner? A very aggressive dog had a go at my dog when we were leaving the park on Sunday morning about 11 am. They were coming in by the Forest Hill Road entrance. I don't remember the owner but the dog seemed like it had some large dark spots in its coat. It could have been grey coloured. I don't remember a harness. It came rushing up to my dog with its teeth bared, snapping and snarling. I have experienced similar problems in the park, once with a Weimeramer who tackled my dog to the ground and started biting her. The owner was a way away, with children in a pushchair and feigned surprise when I started yelling. "What's the problem" were his exact words.
