  1. I saw this too, look fine. My only concern is that if the corner on bromar/pytchley becomes a blind spot agin transport for London (or whoever is responsible) will have to look at how to improve vision lines. I keep meaning to email the application people but otherwise I agree, all looks fine and they're clearly looking to benefit from bromar prices!
  2. I know some people on piermont road had their pavement side one taken off, along with the others all parked that side of the road, a few months back. I don't know if this is the same person but it was definitely a person who was hitting them off. Can't remember if they were stopped or had left by the time the police arrived.
  3. Hope it's every 10 after 9. If you miss the one after 9 the 22 past is rarely on time. As there are only these trains between 9:00-9:30 it's a right pain... Have tried multiple different routes and the only one that gets me where I need faster is via Denmark hill, buses no good.
  4. They're not that nice to actually travel on. Rather like being stuck in an old pillar box.
  5. Ben and jerrys = yuck. I'm with hat282 that it worries me that scoop wouldn't reopen. You can buy sugar pots of B&js in the supermarket: you can't find hazelnut, pistachio etc though. Not happy to read this possible news at all.
  6. Hi Melissa I sent you a private message, but no reply. Are you looking for students?
  7. Wowser, I never knew that there was a direct link between battersea power station/red phone box and William booth building. Thanks for the link... As for the original Q: would have to agree with the comment above that Peckham is where all the cool kids and venues/bars are.
  8. For 3 years I suffered a self build at the back of my garden that started at roughly 7 am with the 3 builders swearing at each other and continued through the day with heart FM full blast. Bank holidays included. The houses are now empty, over priced eye sores (plus they took down some trees thus destroying my view)and the guys did not apologies once and yes I did go ask them to turn it down, everyday, and yes I was made to feel like a total cow. One event in the park? Jeez Louise, I had both kids with chicken pox one year combined with a mini digger and dirrge FM. Count yourself lucky, the council could do nothing to stop them and they never had to ask for any permissions. 7 AM, pretty much EVERY day from spring to autumn for 3 years. That is inconsiderate behaviour.
  9. Ha! I'm up for Amsterdam and definitely no longer 17 :-)
  10. add to this broadcast example for those sans enfants: a divorced women trying to get out of a cycle of abuse with ex tries to get away. but she's caught on a local news piece about a simple high street story. bam, she's spotted, cycle begins again. these rules are to protect everyone. i cannot believe some of the things i have read on this thread.
  11. it is as simple as this loz and co... if you are professional you cannot film people without their consent. read ALL broadcast guidelines which are in place to protect everyone and they are very very clear, kids can only be filmed if they have consent from parents. you MUST clearly state when you are filming in a public space so as to allow people to chose not to be filmed. this is for multiple reasons including: children in care from abusive parents, they are caught on film, seen and found by said abusive guardians. this is THE PROFESSIONAL CODE OF CONTACT. and to be honest, all this guff about what will happen with it. the fact that the person my just 'get it off' looking at shots of my kids disgusts me. it would disgust me if some guys took photos of me on beech intentionally to jerk off at, let alone kids. finally, say something. if just 2 people had approached him it would have put him off. ask him what he's filming for, take a name, let him know you can see him. i'm all for kids playing out in the street etc... but it also involves parents helping each other out.
  12. i couldn't agree more with the references to paris, NY etc... and all these ideas but the culture here in the UK is completely different. having family on the continent i can vouch that parisian cafe culture opens its' doors to everyone (except, ironically the push chair)revellers home from a late night, business breakfast>lunch, the post school crowd (can't see anyone tolerating that in ED, they have enough problems with toddlers and babies), dinner set and back to the night time crowd. i have never really witnessed this in the UK: where cafes are like a local living room. good luck nico, i'm intrigued to see what you open. my advice is just do what you think is best, you seem to have a pretty clear idea in your head already.
  13. the people serving in there are barely 18 themselves...
  14. to be fair some are up to no good, there's no point pretending either way. did anyone see that bbc4 doc about sunday schools? they were established to take the kids of the streets on a sunday. they would run riot (quite literally) as it was their only day off from the workhouse and there was nowt to do. so yes a century old problem ..."summer fun" here we go.
  15. yes cassius you are entirely correct, what is going to be done...
  16. tony i agree, i wish i was 16 again and could attend...aherm. i think a big soft play area should be built for the bored youth ... now there's an idea.
  17. jesus, enough. there were a gang of intimidating kids and the person chose to describe them. before wading in with an argument about whether this person was right or wrong for what they saw or, before it's decided that it's this or that to state colour of what they saw or, whether you chose to trust them and their views you can check their previous posts to see what kind of opinions that person has previously expressed. in this case zaardvark seems a well balanced poster who maybe wanted to let people know what they witnessed and if anyone knew what happened. they have also highlighted a very important issue that everyone seems to be ignoring and that is when is the park going to be properly lit?
  18. i agree with what has been said above, as a teenager i headed straight up into the west end and went clubbing so i never hung out on the streets. however, my sister and her large group of friends would all hang out on a street corner by a phone box, this was pre mobiles so they all knew the number and could call in to see what was up (seems funny now no mobile phones...) anyways, they too had no where to go to do what it is that teenagers need to do so the same problem arose, especially with good weather. i would chance a hello or look and smile if you happen to be passing just to judge if they're out to be pains or just being show off teenagers. swearing is part and parcel of being a bored teenager. however, not all groups of youths are just innocent bored teens so if the noise is keeping you up at night try the council noise dept and see who they recommend you speak to. also, if the behavior is aggressive to local cats and they seem to be winding the dog up on purpose call the RSPCA, mad as it may sound but they work now to make sure that dogs are not going through this torture of being wound up by their owners. i find it hard to believe that your local safer neighborhoods team have not responded by sending a patrol car around. they are usually on the ball when it comes to nuisance behavior, ask them what they are doing to keep an eye on this behavior during the summer break and simply call every time the group is there and making you feel uncomfortable. then they get to see the pattern in the kids behavior. see it not as hassling the police but helping them ...
  19. can i suggest that you call the local police and let them know. i think that comes under south camberwell. the kids with dogs is something that we need to keep the local neighbourhood team on top of.
  20. nothing but bbc loving here. i really can't complain, yes panorama is not what it used to be but my reception is screwed in certain rooms and i can only pick up the bbc channels which rarely let me down. television at its best. however, i so rarely watch any of the commercial channels i couldn't comment on them except imported high end drama and the odd doc on 4. my dad made one of the first docs to look at multi channel television back in the 80's when berlusconi was a mere media magnate. looking at the foreign models i realised that we should cherish our (what was then) 4 trick pony, but as ever market forces were apparently necessary. fair play, murdoch was right with sky sports, get people to pay for what they get free. god bless him... my mates who now live in NY find it hilarious that we get to see all these HBO series for free on english telly yet they all pay, but for how long? so long as product placement doesn't interfere with free comment and is never involved in docs then i don't care. film crews are damn expensive things and if BMW, for example think they are selling more cars by placing them for millions then so be it. what gets me with the pre pay channels is that you still get the ads. so bless freeview, iplayer and all who sail in the good ship british television.
  21. wow, i am still staggered not at house prices ... but by the fact that people like kirsty and 'what's his face, not son of the rich family' are paid to tell people the bl**dy obvious about selling a house. keep it clean?? decorate?? look smart ... what is this a degree in estate agentology?
  22. we need to ask dicks if newfangled bottom cleavage counts, we should start writing to the guy and totally freak him out with peculiar british requests. i also think retrograde arrests should be made of z list celebs with thongs out in the late 90's early 2000's, this could seriously help clear our newsagents of tat celeb mags.
  23. surely lambeth country fair (also a regular fave with us at feelgood towers) gives away in the title that all wildlife shall be on show...just trying to make light here. before the PC brigade hit i'm having a laugh. a friend who is not used to these parts of the world and has heard of the perils of south london of course had to be stuck on the 37 caught in the middle of the riot. what i love is that she describes how all the people on the bus were screaming at the driver to "f**king get up on the pavement and drive away, FAST".
  24. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jul/21/usa3 i think if this police chief lived in the UK half of south east london and old street would be arrested. god bless the american constitution for safeguarding guns at home and saggy pants, just a shame about all the other liberties they chose to ignore.. for those that can't be *arsed* to read the article this police chief, with the great name of david dicks, is stopping and searching kids with slow slung trousers in michigan and the usual great commotion has risen: to quote the guardian direct "Your new practice of stopping and threatening young men with disorderly conduct for wearing 'saggy pants' is a blatant violation of the United States Constitution," the ACLU wrote to Dicks in a letter last week. "Although you were recently appointed chief of the Flint police department, you cannot appoint yourself chief of the 'fashion police'. You have no power to criminalise a style of dress because you find it distasteful. We ask that you halt this practice immediately.""
