  1. i have also heard that the council are currently negotiating or have now completed a deal with a housing corp to take over the empty flats. they are then supposed to be going to key workers. i heard this over a year ago and not much has visibly happened but i have heard nothing to the contrary either. the new windows look great and they are repointing each block as they go. it's a great location with one of the best primary schools in the neighbourhood on your doorstep, LL just a stroll away, the station on your doorstep with denmark hill just up the road and a 24 hour supermarket. you can't go wrong.
  2. sorry but i actually like the dog free bit. i wouldn't care about dogs but i'm sorry not all owners 'scoop the poop' and it's nice to have a section that, do i dare say, i felt happy letting my kids run around that was fenced off from the exits onto the roads themselves.
  3. post codes were invented for envy
  4. earl grey please and kids decide between themselves which goes up and which goes down ....
  5. post code envy is part of being a londoner, nothing wrong with that. it has never been fair but sorry se22ers camberwell may not have the chi chi factor but it's got the better post code.
  6. i have been wondering whether it would not be fun to organise a mass turn up at foxtons and get a free coffee one weekend. try and coordinate it so every hour another 20 people turn up as prospective buyers and ask for drinks whilst browsing. start using it as a free cafe maybe ....
  7. for all the people who complain about flashy buggies you should be made to push around 2 x 15 kilos (twins) in a double maclaren (?122 on ebay) for over a week. see how long your back lasts and then do the same with a phil and teds (?250 ebay) and then you will understand that it's not a showy off thing it's a 'i want to enjoy motherhood and not be crippled by it'. add to this the fact that you can get into shops that previously were no go areas as a side by side couldn't get in (note that the macl side by side is the same width as a wheelchair so clearly quite a few places down LL are breaking disability access regs) and the extra money is totally worth while. then subtract the cost of osteopaths to sort your back which has been demolished by pushing 2 kids round in a small plastic wheeled double buggy and actually the phil and teds is a cheaper long term option... please, enough of the permanent criticisms of parents on this forum. i'm surprised that we haven't been blamed for the foxtons, regeneration/gentrification of LL, the chains, freak flooding and post code envy.
  8. it's people moving across from brixton and surrounding areas who wanted to bring up their kids in a victorian house in a nice neighbourhood (nowt wrong with that.) so i go with demographics, the shops and estate agents just follow. the irony is that ED is now far more expensive than brixton.
  9. since when has the clamour for a sushi venue silenced the fact that it would bring ed one step closer to clapham aramgeddon ... let alone this new kids shop that is being shot down in flames before it even opens.
  10. wow, i am sometimes shocked at how arrogant and ridiculous some posts are on this forum. for an apparenlty tolerant city like london these swipes at the changing demography of the area smack sheer intolerance. a 3rd rate battersea, claphamites etc... do you know how insulting it is to people who live in areas/neighbourhoods that do not benefit from empty shops being filled and yet retaining your iceland and ?1 shops. if it really bothers you all that much move to brixton, queens road peckham, bermondsey...
  11. jesus some people are either having a very good laugh on this forum or need to get out more. it's a flipping shop selling baby clothes, which incidently covers quite a massive market in the area. they're not out to get you. they're not out to physically harm you. they're not shoving a way of life down your throat. you have a choice to go in or not. i am starting to feel like i live in a neighbourhood full of mary whitehouse types that read the daily mail: intolerant and unable to find the off button.
  12. leech? surely you have a choice as to whether you go in there? or am i missing something here ...
  13. i am still intersted by the fact that another mr blair never resigned after killing ... well how many is it now with an illegal war? i am at a loss over this case, it's so sad but, and i know i am going to be in a massive minority here, having worked closely with the police in brixton i think the met often get a bad rep (justifiably) but they do good as well. some things that blair has said are actually rather good, i did love his comments about cocaine snorting middle class hypocrites. yes, in reality, he should resign, but if the situation arose again i fear it would be repeated.
  14. when your police station shuts down and is sold to property developers
  15. as i understand the situation (it has been debated to death how upsetting the new shops are to some people) that we all have to wait for a restaurant to shut down as no more restaurant licences are going to be granted on lordship lane. it would have been nice if jerk rock could have gone sushi wards rather than boutique, but even though i am not from clapham i have nothing against handbags at 'silly' prices etc.... so i shall continue to get my sushi delivered from fujiyama. i do have children. i buy most of their clothes at sainsburys if that's ok with everyone but when a friend has a kid i quite like the choice of boutiques to buy them a quality pressie. therefore, the arrival of jojo bebe maman or whatever is no bad thing really ... as said above at least it's not an estate agent and opening an empty slot on the high street.
  16. i was at the horniman today with 2 2 year olds and saw several classes from local primary schools enjoying a day out there. included were heber, dog kennel hill and rosendale and i was really impressed with all their behaviour. if they represent our local primary schools then i look forward to my children joining any of them.
  17. a bit off thread as the furthest north i have lived life is shepherds bush, i still wanted to add to the positive atmosphere... i have lived south of the river all my life, besides the aforementioned 2 year forray to shepherds bush and have always considered south london as one of london's best kept secrets.
  18. jesus, mootoo is great. it sells marimeko, eva solo and other great skando stuff without having to go into town. there is also a great meat board that has prongs and collects the juices when carving up for a very decent price and is dishwasher friendly. it sells some very good design compared to a lot of the other tat shops in ED. i'd happily see them shut down but mootoo actually stocks some good stuff for people who like both function and form. i am one of those people, jesus hang me before i'm told that design is pointless and only for people with too much money: that's just sad.
  19. one was spotted in a piermont road house, but not a pearly edition, this has a grave yard (i think that was it) on the front with some gary oldham piece ...
  20. nearly all of them in factual, very sad. without a contract production staff just don't have the confidence to say no to decisions taken higher up and then standards slip. basically when wanting to 'sex up' a story that you have found for viewing figures if you say no you get pushed out. i know this from personal experience and other's unhappy times in docs. having said that there are still some great docs being made.
  21. ha ha, no toe sucking here thank you
  22. the irony is that most americans have to pay for the stuff we enjoy for free, often a year later, but still free! apparently at a sky party a few years back they rolled out a cake in the shape of tv centre (that's the famous bbc building down wood lane for any not in the know) for all the staff to eat. to say that the man hates the bbc is an understatement and as mentioned above should be a reason to celebrate. i love the fact that he keeps trying to come up with a rival to freeview but keeps being caught out for still making people pay. as i have asked above though, how does the bbc fit into the future of telly? people demand high brow but at the same time scream about low viewing figures that do not justify the licence fee: who is right?
  23. oh an election would have been so much fun, so much more because it would have not been a secure one for either party. i like brown but do feel that someone needs to piss on cameron's party. i would happily but as a woman i find it hard to piss standing up and aim all at once...
  24. i miss being able to cruise the estate agent ads without being spotted down LL, daring to show an interest in house prices... with living south i can just pull the blinds and enjoy this guilty pleasure ...
  25. i haven't got one in a while and we're between eclair's patch and east dulwich
