  1. Sadiq Khan has pledged to help make London the "best city in the world to grow up in". Mr Khan said he plans to: Provide free skills training for unemployed or low-income Londoners Create more than 150,000 new jobs by 2028 Fund more youth clubs with a £30m investment Make free school meals permanent in London's state primary schools Keep Transport for London fares frozen until at least 2025 and never introduce a pay-per-mile road charging scheme End rough sleeping by 2030 with government support Build 40,000 new council homes by 2030 and to build new "rent control" homes On policing, he said he wants to put 1,300 more police on the streets, tackle violence against women and girls and deliver free legal support for victims. He also promises a fully zero-emission bus fleet by 2030 and to clean up the Thames, planning to make it swimmable within 10 years. Source BBC News - Sadiq Khan pledges to help make London the 'best city in the world' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68968813 All great pledges but so many questions. 1. Where will the extra money come from to deliver all this ? 2. In times when police are leaving in ever decreasing numbers and recruitment is hard, how will he put more police on the streets ? 3. Rough sleeping, no matter what is done, some still choose that way of life, so what's his plan in that case ? 4. How will he directly create new jobs ? A lot of political hot air and personally I want to revisit what he actually achieves in 4 years to see if there was a justification in a third term.
  2. Whilst I am finding this thread amusing as it is parodying the who are one dulwich discussion, at the end of the day both the pro LTN and Anti LTN groups are using social media to portray their points and arguments and it doesn't matter who is behind them as they both use simular tactics.
  3. It's was a Sunday night, they might have had a low turnover and said to the kitchen staff finish and go home early as it saves on wages (shift workers are often paid for working hours) and had already started cleaning down. When a new order comes in they have to reset things up, prepare and cook and then clean down again after. Quite understandable if the kitchen was shutting to be honest and as a business they react to demand rather than waiting to see if they get a sudden rush half an hour before closing time. Agreed its disappointing for you, but I guess equally you could have called ahead to book and maybe things would have been different. At the end of the day it's a first world problem and you had alternative choices.
  4. Interesting take mal Maybe the reduction in spending to 50% by the government on active travel is a sensible reaction to the expected boom not happening. After all when money is short, why waste it on schemes that aren't being used as much as expected, thereby cutting your cloth accordingly and redirecting the money where its needed more. You can build so much cycling inferstructure but as they say you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Whilst more active travel is an admirable goal, if people don't want to go that route and with the weather in this country, then its hard to see it expanding much more than it has already.
  5. Obviously, now discovered the real use of lime bikes, if you scroll through the pictures you will see they make effective bus blockers. Personally I think if protesters had real courage in their convictions they should have used their own bikes and not someone else's 😉 BBC News - Peckham: Protesters block coach over asylum seeker transfer https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68943919
  6. I hope binface wins as that will be an interesting post election delivery 😂
  7. Simple thing us to find a house you like and buy it, areas change, sometimes for better , sometimes for worse, but if you find the right house with amenities nearby then you are a winner. The neighbourhood itself doesn't matter but what's around you that is important to you does.
  8. I have no names for you, as I'm neither a member or signed up support, but a quick search will allow you to ask them directly https://www.onedulwich.uk/contact
  9. Ahh, the local election where even if Labour said they were going to slaughter all first born, people would still have voted for them to stick one to Boris snd the tories 🤣 You really can't take that as an endorsement for a scheme that felt marginal compared to how people felt about bigger issues..
  10. Sounds like you are running scared of the idea Earl, come now with so much debate over what is a consultation /referendum surly it's a simplel way of settling the argument 🤔
  11. There's a simple solution, let's have a referendum on the LtNs and Dulwich junction that is restricted to residents living within a mile of it. (This stops outside interference by organisations for either side) Then let's see if there is support for or against it and have a legal binding agreement that the results are respected and acted upon by the council. Sounds fair to me or are people scared of discovering how strong feeling is either way ?
  12. Now this is cycling BBC News - Tweed Run London bike ride evokes spirit of yesteryear https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68900476
  13. Finally, top secret filming has revealed the face behind the shadow of one dulwich Be afraid, be very afraid because V is coming for you in your nightmares
  14. Something smells fishy here. Two separate people, multiple purchase, each time saying chicken was off. If that's the case Environmental Health would be all over the shop like ants swarming a carcass. Can't quite put my finger on what's really going on here 🤔
  15. This reads like an article in Gardeners World where Percy Chucker is discussing how he grew his SUV so big just using diesel based fertiliser and regular waywrimg 🤣 But point well made, they are getting bigger which is partly down to safety features that older cars didn't have but also marketing as adverts seen to push SUVs into the public eye.
  16. Labour are proposing to nationalise the railways, (passenger trains but not fright) Whilst it removes them from shareholders control, and potential profit chasing, is it workable or will it end up costing tax payers more in the long run? On paper the idea is interesting but does it also need the profitable freight arm included to help reduce fares,?
  17. Are your neighbours also smelling it? If not, I had a similar issue years ago and found it was down to an emersion heater element failing and putting strain on the wiring, which had to be replaced. Hopefully you can track it down.
  18. @Chickis this your area of expertise?
  19. And what would you suggest for cyclists that also flout the rules? Crush their bikes at the same facility that crushes errant drivers cars ? Same rules and punishment must apply to all road users (except runaway horses of course)
  20. Regardless who is behind them, both groups do a good job of raising public awareness which is something the council seem to be more secretive about IMHO 🤔
  21. Obviously the PM needs passengers for a free holiday to Rwanda 😅
  22. Is your business closed as recorded by Companies House or dormant ? If fully closed then you obviouspy wee not selling tje item as a business and it was a orobate sale ,(regardless where the funds were paid to) As a private sale of a second hand item there is no comeback. As the person who bought it from you is also a repair specialist, and they checked it over before buying then sounds like they are pulling a fast one. If you feel intimidated by their approach then simply report them to the police and as a business maybe also trading standards.
  23. As it isn't law yet to microchip a cat (becomes law in June this year) then whisking off a cat with no microchip to get neutered and rehomed may well be taking someone's pet. There was a proposal on here recently to "rescue" big ginger who looks in a bad way but actually has a living home and is being well cared for. So before whipping him off to whip them off, make 100% sure he is a stray.
  24. I am curious dulwich dweller, as someone who claims to regularly use a bus you seem to be arguing for their reduction based on the fact that we aren't packing them in like cattle. Maybe that's the issue, covid has made people reluctant to use packed buses and by reducing them so they are fuller, some would say over full, then it both becomes harder to find space and discourages people from using them. 🤔 Whilst an empty bus is seen inefficient financially by some, it may well encourage more people to use it as they'll don't feel like cattle going for slaughter. Or do you think that we need the Japanese pushers to pack more people into buses. ?
  25. The honest truth is for every one car I see do any of those, I see 50 cyclists jumping lights, using the pavement or failing to stop for pedestrians. Yes it happens but proportionally cyclists seem to flout the law more than cars drivers. As I said it's perception.
