Dear Deidre I am a prolific poster on a local discussion forum where people regularly get in to discussions that gets their full blood up. Can you advise if I should stop before, like my priest says, I go blind. Yours Sparts

I hear there was a bear seen in Dulwich Park this week, a bear warden was dispatched by Southwark to capture it. They used a piece of cheese as Bears are partial to cheese (not marmalade sandwiches) and was heard crying "Camembert Camembert" to coax it out.

Aimed at cyclists and others alike. Please don't use it to sling mud at cyclists, or drivers but to have a genuine discussion about causation and motivation. Genuine discussion point, why do so many cyclists flount the rules, including going through red lights, cycling on pavements amongst other bad practices ? What is their motivation and causation? Why has it now started to be the norm? I am curious to hear from cyclists directly amongst others to understand the reasons. Keep it civil, if you want to say "what about drivers" open your own thread and ask the question as this is looking for causes. Also don't use it to moan about bad cycling but have a serious straight forward discussion. As a starter: has the fairly recent explosion of hire bikes impacted the perceived bad behaviour by cyclists?

Has anyone contacted Maria to confirm what os going on. It might also be good to confirm that the notice says what is reported before we all go off at the deep end Hopefully its not what it appears as its a great little spot and not a chain. -
I'm sure Mr Bridger in wormwood scrubs would like one

Wow Classic Earl spinning there I could almost swear you work for Trump with your answers at times 😅
-
Thats the problem, I dont have a solution, but I can see disadvantages of some of the proposed solutions. Not selling it to a foreign company is my preference but after that I have no idea of the best path / solution with the least impact for all. Whats your view Sue ?

Great answer, but how do you then square it up with pension pots investments without adversely impacting future growth. Buit of a tricky one as on one hand it should be nationalised but on the other we don't want to see future pension poverty relying on government top ups. Far too complicated for a simple answer

I'm sure the crime survey goes down to street level data 🙄
-
One of the issues with crime stats is that it relies on people actually reporting crime. As a result of reports and stats, resources are deployed to an area if there appears to be a problem. In reality, if people don't report crimes as they see little point or accept it as the norm then there is little actual evidence of what is really going on. As such we should view any stats with caution as the real picture may be different to what the numbers say. I don't doubt that a PCSO has given crime advice out, and it may well be true that they said what they did as was reported earlier, as there may be a short term crime issue in the area, normally caused by one or two individuals, but I wasn't there, didn't hear it so can't question it but equally I can't deny it happened and nor should anyone else unless they have actual proof it wasn't said. Bit of a Schrödinger's cat issue, without proof either way the statement can both be true and false.

There are moves to place Thames Water into a SAR (Special Administration Regime) effectively renationalising it and wiping out its debt. But then what ? There is also rumours of lookmg for a new owner, including a Chinese backed group that already owns Northumbrian water and UK power. Is that a controversial move as it places another of our inferstructural assets in foreign hands? Should it be renationalised and run as a not for profit government organisation, placing investment and improvements before shareholders? This in itself would adversely impact pension funds who have invested in utilities. Its fairly obvious that Thames Water needs rescuing or restructure but what is the optimum and correct path to take ?

Okay Earl, my answer is yes it is still relevant to drive in zone 2, short journeys or otherwise because unlike you (with your view that everyone seems to drive SUVs ) it really is not a black and white issue, individual circumstances or reasons may require driving, even for short distances. But your view seems to be that its unreasonable without analysing why or circumstances behind driving. Not everyone wants to join the active travel "cult"* but you try and demonise them at every opportunity. Maybe if you weren't so aggressive in your approach, didn't spin others words and dogmaticcily try to force your views down others throats, you might be able to have a decent discussion. * used tounge in cheek PS do you have a size inferiority complex as you seem to always mention vehicle sizes.
-
Interesting Earl, you just made a generalistic assumption on what I think, yes everyone can read back and see your weasel wording and how you try and manipulate peoples responses to suit your agenda. Poor form.
-
I like your use of 2 ton SUVs and adding weight.... I think RTM was a paradoy and bored themselves let alone everyone else
-
Oh but it was , you can't even remember what you just posted Interesting use of "size" there as it seems to imply that everyone drives a SUV, has kids and does short journeys. Very generalistic of you. Shows your distain for those that don't follow your active travel religion.
