  1. Is it just me or does it feel like the governments romours, hints and leaks about what Reeves may do in the budget is spooking the horses? Reports in the media have hinted at proposals to change council tax and stamp duty are causing the housing market to stall, the idea of changing the vat threshold is causing concern for small businesses and bank shares took.a hit as a tax hike is floated. Whilst nothing is concrete till budget day, surly the fall out from rumours is doing a lot of harm to the economy and anxiety for a lot of people. It feels almost like we are being shown the worst case scenarios so when a bad one hits us we will all go, oh its not as bad as xyz would have been. Whilst there are always pre budget rumours, it does feel a lot like its out if control this time.
  2. @malumbu your original post is a bit confising with multiple, possibly unrelated, concepts thrown together. Let's address the title of the thread. What are you looking for here, objecting to people flying their national flag? Tying to draw extreme comments out or associating flag flying with the far right ? The real qquestion possibly is should we feel ashamed to fly the flag? Possibly not, however the reasons for flying it should not be hijacked by political or extremism motivations. We shouldn't be ashamed of our flag, but a minority seem to be using ir to incite hatred against others. Therefore the real debate should be around how to remove the extremist views from ability to put a flag up? I don't have an answer and we won't get one on here but good to have a discussion that may stir a few thoughts.
  3. @DulvilleRes i'll hold your pitchfork whilst you dunk the witches in the Dulwich Village Pond. After all you seem to be wanting to conduct a witch hunt over who one Dulwich are. Possibly why they want to remain anonymous, I personally would if I was them.
  4. I love the attempts to paint a protest group, in this case one Dulwich, as a "shadowy and opaque" secret society. They ain't the masons or the illuminati but a group who,as first mate says, object to what appears to be council steam rollering of local objections. Maybe if you want transparency of who they are, stop hiding behind a moniker, say who you are and maybe, just maybe they will be more willing to engage with you. Can't guarentee they will but as we are all using pseudonyms are we all therefore "shadowy and opaque"?
  5. How has this turned from a whinge about thw cycle lane to a dislike of a pub to character assignation of landlords and posters I sometimes wonder how deep the rabbit hole is and what happens when we all get to the bottom ?
  6. Or use two coat hangers, both bent at 90° as divining rods to locate the sound and fresh water too 😄
  7. I may have found the cause. Popped up to Erics this morning, and just opposite the Jewellers I heard the beeping. Stopping there for a few minutes I pinpointed it to either the beige campervan , the trailer or the building they are both parked outside. Acoustics make it hard to pin down exactly.
  8. Fab news Maria Glad you are able to re open.
  9. Oh and why the reference to the Mail? Was that a poorly executed attempt to pigeonhole me for trying to open a discussion concernimg others motivations? 3/10 must try harder (as you appear to be schooling me)
  10. I dis a brie, there's always room for more cheese, Grommit
  11. Well I never Now that song makes sense (almost)
  12. Are you too sexy for your shirt ?
  13. Third post and its "what about cars" Read the title of the thread again then go start that question in you own different thread 🤔 I am genuinely trying to explore why cyclists often flount the rules and "because they do it" isn't an excuse If they jump off a cliff, would you ?
  14. Dear Deidre I am a prolific poster on a local discussion forum where people regularly get in to discussions that gets their full blood up. Can you advise if I should stop before, like my priest says, I go blind. Yours Sparts
  15. I hear there was a bear seen in Dulwich Park this week, a bear warden was dispatched by Southwark to capture it. They used a piece of cheese as Bears are partial to cheese (not marmalade sandwiches) and was heard crying "Camembert Camembert" to coax it out.
  16. Aimed at cyclists and others alike. Please don't use it to sling mud at cyclists, or drivers but to have a genuine discussion about causation and motivation. Genuine discussion point, why do so many cyclists flount the rules, including going through red lights, cycling on pavements amongst other bad practices ? What is their motivation and causation? Why has it now started to be the norm? I am curious to hear from cyclists directly amongst others to understand the reasons. Keep it civil, if you want to say "what about drivers" open your own thread and ask the question as this is looking for causes. Also don't use it to moan about bad cycling but have a serious straight forward discussion. As a starter: has the fairly recent explosion of hire bikes impacted the perceived bad behaviour by cyclists?
  17. That is sad No business deserves that sort of treatment
  18. Is it Cuthbert or Rupert?
  19. Has anyone contacted Maria to confirm what os going on. It might also be good to confirm that the notice says what is reported before we all go off at the deep end Hopefully its not what it appears as its a great little spot and not a chain.
  20. I'm sure Mr Bridger in wormwood scrubs would like one
  21. Wow Classic Earl spinning there I could almost swear you work for Trump with your answers at times 😅
  22. Thats the problem, I dont have a solution, but I can see disadvantages of some of the proposed solutions. Not selling it to a foreign company is my preference but after that I have no idea of the best path / solution with the least impact for all. Whats your view Sue ?
  23. Great answer, but how do you then square it up with pension pots investments without adversely impacting future growth. Buit of a tricky one as on one hand it should be nationalised but on the other we don't want to see future pension poverty relying on government top ups. Far too complicated for a simple answer
  24. I'm sure the crime survey goes down to street level data 🙄
  25. One of the issues with crime stats is that it relies on people actually reporting crime. As a result of reports and stats, resources are deployed to an area if there appears to be a problem. In reality, if people don't report crimes as they see little point or accept it as the norm then there is little actual evidence of what is really going on. As such we should view any stats with caution as the real picture may be different to what the numbers say. I don't doubt that a PCSO has given crime advice out, and it may well be true that they said what they did as was reported earlier, as there may be a short term crime issue in the area, normally caused by one or two individuals, but I wasn't there, didn't hear it so can't question it but equally I can't deny it happened and nor should anyone else unless they have actual proof it wasn't said. Bit of a Schrödinger's cat issue, without proof either way the statement can both be true and false.
