Electric bikes being ridden on pavements
Spartacus replied to Penguin68's topic in Roads & Transport
If you ride a motorbike you're a biker But what's the equivalent for a moped driver (keep it clean folks) Alice I think the distinction is between pedal cycle users and electric bikes users -
TfL claim they are 90% back to pre pandemic usage on the network https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-65821633 Yet still the no 12 is a reduced service and packed most days. What can we and the councillors do ?

Is that music the Gala festival already?

Cars can move over to let emergency vehicles through. An event on the road on the other hand 🤔 -

They just had that on the news and lambeth council claim its good for local businesses, which I think can really be read as "good for the local council" as only a few businesses will get a short uplift but will possibly need to increase staff to manage it. Gotta love council spin doctors -
Any info on how to challenge controlled parking proposal in Nunhead?

Let's be honest, a CPZ won't make the roads clear for buses, that's achieved via urban clearway, red routes and bus lanes. A CPZ will just add parking bays that residents and visitors pay for! It won't magically clear the road of all parked cars. Of course, even if we do achieve faster bus journeys tfl won't increase the frequency and buses will stack up along the route whilst passengers listen to "the driver has been instructed to hold this bus for a short while to even out the service" As others have queried, can someone point to where in labour's election manifesto it said they were going to roll out a Borough wide CPZ tegardless if its needed or not ? -
The buses goes back to when the council did put a speed hump in which broke the chassis of the old routemaster buses causing TfL to divert them away from Barry Road and to run along Lordship Lanr until the hump was removed. I think there is also concerns that with buses and lorries using Barru Road that vibrations from big vehicles going over humps will damage property leaving the council potentially liable

As discussed earlier The freebies (apart from courses) were delivered in advance of Eric's opening so the queues are genuine punters excited by fresh baked goods 😀

Saw this on twitter and had to laugh Even funnier when you read other reviews on sites like amazon. Obviously he has spare time on his hands which could be used to solve knife crime, poverty and world peace 😀 Joking aside he seems ro be working on his next book by claiming he is reducing this pea souper fug we all see in London every day 😅

The Mayor's stance in that article reminds me of the classic American Road Sign "SLIPPERY WHEN WET"

I read that as "Pass" but obviously missed the silent "i" 😳 -
Just saw this on nextdoor obviously the wishes of the residents are being respected here by the council
-
Like I asked, what benefit does it really offer to residents ? I can see what it offers the council!
-
Whilst I get that it's her intention, does she say what benefit it offers residents?

About a decade ago there were studies that looked at removing street signs and traffic lights where drivers felt less safe driving or approaching junctions. As a result they drove slower. Not sure what happened as a result of that study but it was an interesting idea.

It does strike me that all the posturing on "it is about the children and stopping them breathing in pollution" is a bit mad when a bigger threat to their health now and in the future is obesity caused by poor food choices and junk food. If councils really are determined to make a difference to child health they should ban fast food outlets within walking distance of schools and transport interchanges, which in my opinion would have a far better long term health impact then banning cars which are all slowly turning green. Active travel is important before anyone jumps up and down (good exercise 😄) but trying to remove one "bad" element without focusing on others that impact health is fairly pointless. I did read somewhere that in Anerica this is the first generation where parents are expected to outlive their kids due to obesity. But I guess it's easier to demonise car drivers than make substantial changes to real life issues.

Who needs to police cyclists dismounting as Mal asked. Simply put large chicaine type bike gates at each end of the square so cyclists are forced to slow down when entering and leaving the square. Pedestrians and wheel chair users can get through the gates but cyclists can't just barrel through without slowing down to negotiate them. Any cyclists feel like object to an idea like this based simply on slowing them down for safety ?

There are those who can and those who can't and lucky for the area, ED supports both groups of shoppers. Personally I would tather pay a bit more for bread with good ingredients than cheap mass produced bread. However that's my personal choice and I fully respect others decisions on what they can and can not afford. Food shouldn't be one upmanship but quality food should be available to all.

@TIJNAR you forgot our local publications including Southwark News , Peckham Perculiar / Dulwich Diverter and local magazines like the SE group 🤔 The bigger the noise, the better chance there is that the consultation will be amended to actually listen to local views. -
OMG Are you saying that Councillor Rose is active on the forum 🤣
