You raise an important point Mr C Without a proper fair consultation (are you in favour yes or no) tied down to local people and businesses only, we and the council are not able to show support or opposition either way. Sadly this isn't happening and the council are trying to force through support by removing the option to object. Bit of a poor show, what !

TfL are launching a campaign "highlighting the value and benefits public transport offers people with all travel needs and budgets", the organisation said. This comes as they say buses are near pre pandemic levels of usage. BBC News - Tube passenger numbers at 85% of pre-Covid levels, says TfL https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-66451211 with this information, why are we still suffering a reduction in bus capacity locally (no 12 for instance) as logically increasing frequency will help get more people using buses and out of other forms of transport. and before anyone uses the "cars slow buses down" line, the 12 was reduced due to falling numbers during covid.

@mr.chicken ahhh, so using a phrase is paraphrasing you as saying it rather than an expression to show that something isn't the golden panacea (read carefully what I wrote and not once did I say you used the expression) But I still see no answers, just twisting and deflectong like a poor impression of Boris denying party gate or a Domanic saying he didn't go to a castle. Are you going to answer Rock's questions or not ?
-
Show me where I lied ? But again you deflect and don't answer... you are starting to get form. Now answer rocks questions (please) That's who they remind me off
-
However you didn't answer Rock's question which is "Does your expertise stretch beyond engineering? If so, perhaps you can help Snowy and take a stab at, keeping the thread on topic, answering my question about why you think London congestion increased by 5% post Covid and yet the next placed city in the top 10 most congested UK cities decreased by 9% and Belfast managed to reduce it by 36% in the Inrix report?" As an observation, you seem to regularly attack the posters character / styke rather than answering a direct question!
-
Oh Mr Cockerell So amusing calling me names again, why I'm splitting my side with laughter.
-
Strikes me that the same points should be made to cyclists, but hey ho if it's good for the goose then I'm more than happy to drive through your house 😅
-
Interesting tactic When challenged on your statements (CPZs will make it better for buses for example) you call people liars rather than answer the challenge!
-
What lie ? It's an expression not a quote ! Rather than attack the player as you seem to do repeatedly, defend the ball.

CPZs don't restrict driving, they are a blunt tool to ease parking pressure from streets. In this part of Southwark there aren't any real parking pressures apart from those caused by the council) In other areas drivers often have to drive around looking for a parking space in their allocated street(s) as the number of bays are often less than cars in an area, where as before the may have been able to park in another street nearby. CPZs don't free up main roads for buses as most are implemented in side streets where buses don't run. (Little known fact that very few streets have bus routes along them) and even roads like Barry will still have lots of parking bays once a CPZ is implemented. Bus lanes and urban clearways allow quicker movement of buses. CPZS don't restrict car use, they just add more fees to drive which at the time of financial crisis isn't a great move by any council, but people will put up and grumble as they often have a car for a reason. In fact all a CPZ does is generate fees for the council and stops people / tradespeople from visiting an area without paying the council for the privilege, which in turn makes shopping here less attractive and drive people into the arms of out of town type shopping with, surprise, driving involved to get there. This is why people are against a blanket CPZ as its not going to magically free the streets from the cars, speed up public transport or stop people driving (after all if you can almost guarantee a space near your home when going out in the car, why wouldn't you as you are paying to use that space as part of the CPZ) So mal the chicken, over to you, what would you do knowing a CPZ isn't going to be the golden panacea you try and claim it is. What are your other options that you want to sell to the masses.
-
Mr. Chicken is spitting feathers about people parking for no charge in his streets. "Its all about going green and all those poor council workers who can't afford to eat unless we squeeze the pips out of the motorists" he cries
-
@mr.chicken you asked " OK, so you want to make them a safer shared space. How?" thats what public consultations and debate are for, and not to impose the will of a few on the many, then tell them they are talking bullocks when they point out their scheme isn't working. Do you agree or do you support tell them und ze vill komply politics?

Get yourself a wheelchair mal, tie your legs down to stop using them then see how dignified it is trying to get into an uber or black cab. The dignity comes through being able to get in and out relatively easily and where possible without assistance. Better still go for one of the hidden disabilities like asperger's syndrome where a strange vehicle freaks you out. Sometimes you are so far towards the anti car views that you can't spot when you are making life more awkward for others.
-
D) motobility provides disabled users with a car thats free to use (excluding fuel / power) and a CPZ / LTN robs them off their freedom to travel where and when they need and not struggle to get in and out of cabs thus retaining their dignity
-
Rocks, I've altered your response to be more mal 😅 Do you A) approve B) not give a damn
-
Mal Why close roads or have restictions ? Why not just make it them a safer shared space for all (cyclists, drivers, pedestrians) ? After all no one objects to safer shared spaces and in a few years internal combustion engines will be phased out so pollution won't be part of the equation. The reason why there is such strong anti ltn sentiment out there is because its a 20 tonne sledge hammer to crack a walnut. If the council installed safe "shared" roads allowing free movement for all then it might well be a different story, but we are where we are and the council are seen as just not listening to the residents who voted them in concerns.
-
Obvious now that you're not a local as you would be able to see through the "traffic on boundary roads is down" lie for yourself if you were.
-
They be going to one eyed Pete's pirate bar for pieces of after eight and rum baba cake Arrgghh me heartie that they be

As always, the devil is in the detail 71% of 2,240 people questioned (equivellent of a few roads in an area) is a small sample size. Why its almost as honest as "9 out of 10 cars are ulez compliant according to our 106 cameras" Technical Note Ipsos interviewed a representative sample of 2,240 people aged 16+ in the UK. Interviews were conducted using Ipsos’ UK KnowledgePanel, a random probability panel which provides gold standard insights into the UK population, by providing bigger samples sizes via the most rigorous research methods, between 3-9 February 2022. Data are weighted to match the profile of the population. All polls are subject to a wide range of potential sources of error. Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) were described as “areas where bollards, planters and roadblocks are installed to stop motor traffic using some local roads”. The 2020 survey referred to above was conducted using the same methodology and involved 911 UK adults aged 16+ between 12-18 November.

How did you arrive at that question? CPR Dave was pointing out that "many people dislike cyclists" due to the behaviour of some. It is interesting that when someone raises a question of behaviour and points out what would happen if the Gander (all other road users) does as the Goose (cyclists) then they get slammed as either cycle haters or talking rubbish. Its about time both cyclists and other road users talked sensibly and agreed that all should act the same to ensure safety on our roads.

Blimey Snowy/Nardine I never had you pegged as the same person. You Live and Learn. Do you have insider knowledge on when BoJo will join too ?
-
We're all Spartacus
-
Bless him, he's obviously swallowed the blue pill and woken up after a lovely dream that people willingly give up their cars because he believes it I believe in LTNs I do I do I do 😅
-
That's a bit ruff

I guess when you are at the top, you rely on people below you feeding information and stats up. If those stats are flawed, incorrectly recorded or reported on then the resultant message they give is also incorrect. Therefore it wouldn't surprise me, if due to actually public feedback, that statements that are believed true one day are reversed the next.
