Maybe it was set as one of their neighbourhood priorities regarding dog walkers and anti social behaviour in the cemetery. If that's the case then, Ken, they have been tasked by the public at the ward panel meeting so they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. But I didn't attend the meeting so can't say if that's the actual reason.

Mal I'm indifferent to the action being taken against ULEZ cameras. I am, however, fully behind the action to stop / delay the expansion by outer London councils as the Mayor ignored the results of his own consultation and the advice that it's the wrong time to implement as there is a cost of living crisis. I agree it should happen but at a time when it's affordable to the thousands who will have to scrap / buy new cars and those who visit London from outside. (It is a tax on motorists, if you look what the expansion does around Chessington world of adventures, you can see he's trying to earn extra cash from visitors to a major London attraction) The freezing of fuel duty is red herring as the government makes more out if freezing it then they would by rising it and people buying less fuel because they can't afford it. Its the same principle behind why smoking isn't banned, Duty on tabacco is income for the government.

Callie, Eric's opens Friday at 8, Saturday at 9 and closes when they have sold out. They are increasing production to match the amazing demand they are experiencing, but still proving so popular that they sell out quickly due to so many people visiting. After going again today I can see why it is popular. Ruffler, if you have been In you will know that they are selling baked goods and filter coffee / tea (quick to make) so the concept of people slowing the queue down by buying hot drinks only that take a while to make (cappuccino for example) is an incorrect assumption. The staff behind the counter are quick and efficient but just like william rose, a queue for quality goods moves as quickly as it can.

I am wondering if the rethoric from the Mayor "ULEZ challenge a waste of taxpayers' money" is hype and spin to try and deflect from the fact that outer boroughs have genuine concerns. BBC News - Sadiq Khan: ULEZ challenge a waste of taxpayers' money https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-65273972 I did read on twitter that some people are using foam to disable the cameras ๐

Couldn't agree more but hey ho this is the EDF where some people aren't happy unless they can moan from their armchairs about a new exciting business without actually visiting it first.

The queue last Saturday, when Eric's opened, were locals and people who had travelled from all over London to buy products created by Helen (the former head Baker at Fluer) The "freebies" that were provided as the crowdfunding were delivered in advance of the opening so from what I saw it was all paying customers. This morning there was again a queue of eager punters and long may those queues last. If you did your research EdBird, you would know who is behind Eric's, what they are offering and possibly why they will do better then the last owner. There's nothing like freshly baked on premise goods to draw people in. Ken, if you go to Eric's Instagram site or their website and also look up HelenFluer on Instagram you will be able to see what's on offer for yourself, or better still pop in and browse. I'm hoping, personally, it will do well and their croissants and wild garlic and cheese swirls are bloody delicious.

Lime bikes (and other hire companies) left in middle of pavement
Spartacus replied to first mate's topic in Roads & Transport
Yesterday around the South circular I saw one of these bikes upside down standing on its handlebars and saddle. I don't advocate doing the same as they appear to be rather heavy but it did amuse me. -
Lime bikes (and other hire companies) left in middle of pavement

This morning I almost couldn't get along Barry Road due to a massive cluster of hire bikes abandoned on the corner near Upland Road. It felt like a cycle version of a hells angel film with the bikes parked outside a gang den ๐คฃ -
Is it Dexters issue to deal with or fir them to inform the owner? Really depends if they are acting just as a letting agent or fully managing the property. Hopefully it's sorted now.

If it goes ahead you can bet that the operators will look to other markets to unload their e scooters. London is only a short ride away ๐ค -
Eric's Bakery is opening next Saturday on Upland Road.

It's all fun and games till it ends in tears There does need to be more focus on online / in person gambling and vaping but n20 abuse is a low hanging fruit target. Wonder how the possession point will pan out, will granny get sent to jail for having a couple of canisters at the back of a draw ? Will Chefs be the go to person ? Will tips be full of cream whippers discarded after they have spent their last load? Its just not a practical law to enforce and I bet online retailers are doing a roaring trade at the moment to satisfy peoples future demands for whipping.

don't worry spock and kirk will sort it out Which ones Quinto and Pine Or Nimoy and Shatner ?

As I understand it the cameras are owned and operated by TfL not southwark council. Understand your frustration but eventually no roads in London will be free of cameras

Today it was pre announced that the small metal n20 (nitrous oxide) canisters will be banned and possession will become a criminal offence. This is supposed to stop young people using it as a recreational drug however it will cause issues for anyone who owns a cream whipper or professional chefs. Are the government using a sledge hammer to crack a nut and if n20 possession is made illegal what happens to people who have it in a draw for making whipped cream. In fact with no real alternatives on offer does it make thousands of cream whippers* up and down the country obsolete ? Is there a better way of controlling it to stop misuse? * cream whippers is not a euphemism for some shady activity ๐

Cashed up bought a 3 bed terrace near Lordship Lane for 75k in 1983 and sold for 900k in 2017 with no mortgage, so I saw the whole arc of gentrification and I have a lot to than ED for. Back in 83 it was a bit rough you had gangsters meeting in the Foresters Arms (now the Bishop) and a very mean vibe and an Irish estate agent selling Irish property on Uplands Road. I knew Reg the landlord of the Palmerston and the other pub up the lane towards the Plough that had live bands. I've gotta ask What the funk is an "Irish Property"

Whilst we have a good thriving local high street, there is the "online" effect where more sales are happening online making it harder for bricks and morter retail businesses to turn over enough to cover costs. This is also compounded with high retail rents and business rates for physical shops. The only way you can get or retain good local shops is by physically supporting them and reducing our reliance on online sales. Are you happy to reduce your online habit to ensure great local shopping ?

There are plans to return to the moon and build moon bases on it. As part of that plan Rolls Royce have just signed a deal to research how to build micro nuclear reactors to use on the moon. BBC News - Government signs ยฃ2.9m Moon base nuclear power deal with Rolls-Royce https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-64982477 Did nobody learn from that 1970s classic Space 1999 that nuclear explosions on the moon will hurtle it out if our solar system. We didn't head the warnings in contagion and we've also ignored the warnings from independence day. Mark my words life follows science fiction ๐

Ex You are not wrong with your assessment on the impact of social media. I'm talking more about television, cinema and printed media messages, rather than pure social media. I'll always remember the "scary" 1970s films to discourage children from playing on the railways or climbing electricity pylons. It's a bit like the lack of keep Britain tidy messages, which has resulted in litter everywhere and people getting fined for dropping it. If there is continous messaging then eventually it will start to sink in, as in your example with drinking and driving. Enforcement can be done in different ways, not just coppers on corners. For example PCSOs could be given powers to arrest / fine for some traffic infractions and the fines could sustain their roles. Problem is at the moment cars do seem to be the easy option to fine as they are tracable via their number plates so drivers do feel victimised. If fines were given to all road users for infringements then the cry of "cars are cash cows" would be muted but as it currently appears that cyclists are mostly not fined for breaking the rules then it's obvious why car drivers feel disadvantaged. The concept of stopping knife crime vs stopping idiots on the road is important and a balance needs to be found to enforce both and make the streets safe for all, guess that's something for very clever people to resolve (or people with common sense)
