Whilst I don't agree with this thread, I was surprised to see that Lisa Loring, the original Wednesday Adams, died aged 64. That ages us.... https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/jan/30/lisa-loring-the-original-wednesday-addams-dies-at-age-64

This weekend is the final weekend to add comments to to the survey hosted by the developers https://www.theayleshamcentre.community/surveys The plan, as per the current guidance from the Mayor, adds 35% affordable housing to the site and this is a fair mix for locals. Whilst it's a tall development it does add much needed housing stock to the area and rejuvenates a tired shopping centre and supermarket along with utilising underused space. I am amused that the Aylesham Community Action group tries to paint Peckham as a historic market town when in fact its currently in need of attention and covered in grafitti. We need homes which will help rejuvenate the town centre and not an eyesore town centre that discourages inwards investment. The real amusement is that the word "gentrification" is also bring used in this context, back in the 60s before the council built the concrete monstrosity housing blocks around Peckham, the town centre was called the golden mile and was a go to shopping destination so this gentrification is really reversing the decline that happened from the 70s onwards. If you haven't added your views, positive or negative then it's your last chance as part of this consultation.

That's sort of the point, the trustpilot ratings appears to be about the sales process and not the overall experience including a cremation. 🤔

Proposed increases in waste collection fees

On the surface, this would be a massive cost saving as you would have centralised department's doing what is currently done in each London council. It would also allow cross Borough working to occur but I suspect there would be issues. Let's look at the way that North and South of this borough are treated where more focus occurs in the North of the borough. Imagine how similar disparity may occur between central boroughs and the outer boroughs if we had a centralised single council. I could of course be wrong but I suspect areas that generated more finances would get more focus. -
I've seen adverts recently (and they have been around for a while) for pre paid cremations. I am amused by their trustpilot ratings (4 stars plus) who is rating them? People who've had a successful cremations ( if so how) or people who haven't been cremated yet but are happy with the sales process🤔 Either way does the trustpilot review give confidence?

Houses on Upland Rd/Crystal Palace rd
Spartacus replied to NewWave's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I did know from a sub contractor on the initial build that there were some issues with the build that needed fixing at the time. Potentially further work is being done now but I have no information on what or why. -
I just want to publicly thank my kind neighbour who put a cover over my car to stop if from freezing over. Ta Pauline

Spartacus replied to Yz871's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Getting to Bank area is fairly easy Train from East Dulwich or Peckham Rye to London Bridge the a short walk across the River via monument and you are at Bank. -
Mal We always need to look back to ensure we don't make the same mistakes again. Out of curiosity, did you think that the Tory's policy of furlough during the pandemic and business support was awful at the time or did you (generic) take the money with thanks ? Ultimately the furlough scheme and other interventions have caused financial difficulties for the country 🙄

I seem to remember reading that if the tree is over 6ft tall you need to cut it in half to make it easier and safer for handling

I always find it interesting when Austerity is raised, it was a measure introduced in 2010 as the government response to the crippling economic downturn that followed the 2008 financial crisis and the level of cash left in the treasury by Labour. Remember that the former chief secretary to the Treasury, Liam Byrne, reignited criticism of Labour's stewardship of the economy at the time with a note for his successor which said "there's no money left". Austerity measures, rightly or wrongly, were imposed as a way of eliminating the budget deficit. Although I suspect that this lot will be leaving a similar note after the finances have been drawn against in response to covid, Ukraine and supporting the nation through the energy crisis.

I take it you don't "trust" the results then Alice 😅

https://www.southwark.gov.uk/events-culture-and-heritage/events/major-commercial-events/stakeholder-engagement?chapter=5 Should take you to information on the event. Personally I'm not convinced that we should have two weekends of disruption in a row or that the Rye should be closed to the general public for so long.

There is now a need to request a collection (this is free) - if you don't the tree won't be collected even if you do pay for a brown bin collection - as I found out to my cost this week! According to Southwarks own website you don't need to book a collection unless you don't have a brown bin or food bin https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/christmas-period-tips-reduce-reuse-and-recycle

There was an interesting article on the bbc news a few days ago which talked about similar issues with the French healthcare system. Their issues are despite them having a higher rate of Doctors and Nurses per capita then the UK. It seems to be caused by a growing older population who require healthcare and Exacerbated by the pandemic and flu adding pressure to the system including the delays to treatments and operations that hospitals are now trying to catch up on. Question is what is really needed, sure more money but that won't solve the issue for at least 5 years (the training time for Doctors) or the issue with bed blocking because there isn't adequate social care (again time is needed to build staff numbers and add capacity in terms of homes) but not everyone wants to or is suited to working in care so filling vacancies is not just an issue of throwing cash at the problem. I think that the NHS has become a political football for politicians to kick around but the reality is that to fix it is far more complex then just throwing money at the problem. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-64216269.amp

I found it sad that yesterday , the 9th of Jan, was the Princess of Wales' 41st birthday but the media choose to focus on Harry's book and not even mention Katherine apart from in context of the book. Hopefully it's all a short lived storm in a China teacup and we can get back to focusing about real world issues again..

Out of curiosity is anyone going to bother to buy "Spare" as most of its so called revelations are being told via the press. Personally I won't be getting it nor watching the netflix documentary as I respect that they want to lead a life away from the media🤣

With the Chinese Government unlocking international travel to and from China in a few days, and with the estimated high levels of Covid cases in China at the moment after abandoning a strict lockdown policy, should tests and quarantine for positive travellers be imposed? The States, Italy, some Asian countries and India believe so. The UK is reviewing it and the EU think its unjustified. The fear is that with uncontrolled infections in China, then variants are more likely. Are restrictions justified and if not can we guarantee a new wave won't sweep the world despite high levels of vaccination?
