  1. Some just find spacial awareness a particularly distant concept. I posted a reply the other day in the 'runners in DP' thread after last running through there on Tuesday, making a huge point of avoiding anyone I saw, having to detour to maintain at least 2-3m. It really isn't a problem if your eyes are open. I absolutely get that walkers find a panting human bearing down on them, intimidating - so, from one runner to another - it's exercise, not the Olympics.
  2. I ran through DP yesterday at lunchtime and made a huge effort to avoid people (I'm more often through there early mornings and so uncomfortable among others). It is true that new runners may find it harder to swerve/balance to avoid others though that's not an excuse. But in HH a little later the person who marched straight towards me to almost pass within inches, had I not stepped into the road was especially irritating. Some have rubbish spacial awareness anyway, and will never get it.
  3. 9am this morning and an orderly queue was fed into both doors after NHS and the elderly had been in. No stampede and no grabbing inside - just shoppers blocking an aisle hugging and saying hello to old friends.
  4. When our CPZ came into force about 10+ years ago, Lambeth's online procedure used to be horrendous and starting a CPZ account was not something I'd wish to go through again. Nowadays however, I can renew my permit within minutes although the fee has climbed from ?85 to just under ?200 which is now my real complaint.

  6. Pretty sure there were some in Dulwich Park last weekend.
  7. I'd have thought DVLA need to be told asap. Congestion Charge, ULEZ, speeding fines and minor offences etc. etc. would all be traced back to you.
  8. Woohoo! Always like stories ending like this.
  9. That's excellent news! Very pleased you have the medical records. We've kept our young ones' books and they now, 20 years on, reside in their memory boxes - part of their childhood heritage, so delighted that there's also a story behind your child's too. Best not leave it around next time!!
  10. I can't read the charging times if you could tell us, please.
  11. Credit to the person who foresaw the unfolding mugging. We need to be so aware of our surroundings which not always straightforward.
  12. They're currently doorstepping in the Ruskin Park area and after a youth rang the bell and invited himself into our closed porch, I told him to leave our property. Had he not been so young, I'd have challenged him more. Had I not read the OP this morning, I wouldn't have known about them so thanks for the heads-up.
  13. You can register a bike theft here https://www.bikeregister.com/stolen and those details are entered on a national database. If the bike has been marked it may show up on a future sale as has happened many times according to their Twitter. They're a good place to register all your household appliances of value anyway.
  14. I thought I'd wait until seeing it in its finished state so this morning I passed through to admire its creative merit. So, er - when will it be finished 'cos it sure as Hell doesn't look finished. Maybe, as someone else said here, that all that blank space will take graffiti to complete it. A year 6 artist could have made a better effort.

  16. Definitely report him. The habitual Dulwich/Wandsworth burglar who was recently arrested was selling this stuff. Even if he wasn't offending at the time, it needs adding to local police intelligence.
  17. Definitely the same fella so hope he's already been reported. But what's more significant is he's seen with the box of cleaning products which he clearly uses as a cover for looking in properties.
  18. Sorry to hear this. As a park runner I've learned to give very wide berths to dogs I calculate are going to chase and leap at me - which has happened many times - and, frankly I now distrust all dogs off leads. More often though, dogs routinely run across my path and with a combination of their solid body mass and my momentum, have had me flat on my face (so far, luckily on grass) when on one occasion an owner had no concern whatsoever about my welfare. I know some of the Ruskin Park's dog walkers and while most are considerate and polite, some seem to think their importance there rises above all others. Don't let them spoil your enjoyment of park running!
  19. SGN, the gas provider has its subcontractor JDT updating mains cables in SE24. Could be them. Or could be any other Utility. Either way, prepare for pits in pavements and barriers - and potentially, gas leaks resulting in temporary cut-offs.
  20. I suspect the OP is referring to old cine cameras, rather than SLRs that take rolls of film.
  21. Is this not the same damage that has occurred on other occasions during the build? If so, I think it happened on at least twice requiring the rendering to be redone.
  22. We have a large male that comes over the fence, more regularly these last few weeks. At first we thought he was looking for another den and because there's no overgrown areas nearby it didn't occur to me he was coming over to us on his recce route. So then I discovered that a bottom shed panel had been ripped away causing a lot of damage to one corner and given the strength needed, I'm pretty sure of the size of animal to do this. He's a beautiful, healthy animal trying to make it in a challenging urban habitat but I won't be feeding him. Instead I've been going out making a lot of noise to make him unwelcome. I've bodged the shed panel but assume he'll try again and maybe at that point my patience will wear a bit thinner although I have no intention of hurting him - even if I could.

Have you noticed an increase in > cycling by the way? Not sure if you're referring to my post of this morning, but if so - no, I never see anyone unloading a bike and pedaling away. They're always of foot and I suspect (without absolute proof) that they're walking across the park to Denmark Hill station.
  25. Just to add my tuppenceworth about CPZs. I'm not in the ED catchment but do suffer from Lambeth's CPZ that was imposed some years ago. My permit has climbed from the original ?85 to the now ?184 (5 year-old petrol hatchback). On the day I paid this year's permit I discovered that station commuters are now parking in our road all day despite the consultation being accepted only if there was a 12.00-2.00pm pay time. But what they do now is leave the car in our road early morning, pay for parking at mid-day via the app then return late that day. They're not allowed to park directly outside the house in the designated residents' bay but do so anyway after 2.00pm so that if I make a quick trip to Sainsbury's mid-afternoon, the road is still chockablock and often someone in my spot outside the house. So, ?184 for my permit to park outside my house and I'm STILL not able to park outside the house.
