GP Practices in Lordship Lane/Forest Hill
NewWave replied to DulwichParker's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We are with The Jenner Practice In Forest Hill (Sunderland Road) We moved there from a formerly lamentably bad Surgery nearby. -
I just had mine..It was Moderna which I always get a reaction to. Sore red arm and itching swelling had mine friday and arm still red and itchy and sore It tends to go after about a week. Last time I had a covid jab I told them I react to Moderna and was told Phizer was only being offered private which was over £100. boyfriend just had his but went elsewhere and was also given Moderna.

Where I work virtually everyone has fallen ill with a sort of nausea/bloating bug with flu-ish symptoms. This has been affecting various people for the past two weeks.

Had a weird one last night around 10.45pm near the Horniman Museum.. Lights and everything suddenly went off.. As did several of our neighbours, lasted about 5 mins then came on and flickered..then off for say 2 mins then on..for 5 minst hen on off on off then thankfully eventually stayed on (whole duration about 10-15 mins for all this) at which point aall our neighbours in the houses opposite had a power cut. I think same thing happend in the night as around 2.30am I was awoken by a beep beep beep which was our alarm going from its standby battery to mains again.

I find this hideous..all that dark wood and recessed spotlights. In fact the only thing I like is the polished concrete floor... One of my favourite pastimes (ok call me a saddo) Is to fantasy house-hunt on rightmove seeing what I could purchase in various areas for up to 4 million. I find it shocking how many houses and apartments have had the guts ripped ripped out of them and look like the example above. If I won the lottery I'd be every estate agents nightmare...

We are in "one of UK's best places to live" 🤣
NewWave replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I do avoid Megans....not due to the clientele but due to the rubbish food and muzak. -
If its annual it must be someones birthday..hopefully as they get older maybe their musical tastes will be less irksome. Mind you..I live in hope of hearing a noisy local late night party hearing the kind of music I like..BUT if you do hear any early 90's grunge (Pearl Jam,Alice in Chains.Nivarna..) or late 70's -80's Bauhaus,Kraftwerk YMO Japan etc blasting out over the hood give me a shout so I can go and gatecrash!

Sorry but the name 'Muddy Stilettos' makes me 🤢🤮 I visualise a bunch of smug women sitting having overpriced brunch in a place with Faux flowers garishly framing the door and filling a wall with pink neon reading "Good Times" somewhere in the picture drinking prosecco and talking about school fees though their kids are still in nappies.. In fact I think I would markedly AVOID anywhere that 'Muddy Stilettos" deemed a best place to live. -
But you have to travel to Brighton to get them

No idea if it was a false alarm or fire but my other half was just about to go in yesterday when the alarms went off and everyone was told to leave.. No idea what happened or how long it was closed for.

White stuff on LL closing down plus Oliver Jonas
NewWave replied to teddyboy23's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Too many places offering 'baked goods' cakes and bread and the like. really `i'd be happy to see anything other than an estate agent, nail bar, barber shop, coffee shop or any branch of a chain. -

I don't think its viable..I would LOVE to see a shop like the 'Good Works' charity shop where they support young women going into the workplace by getting them kitted out in suitable clothes...Their shops are are mix of excellent quality donated clothing mixed with pieces donated by brands which are sold at at least 50% off retail..I recently went into one of their shops and they had new clothing donated by Frame jeans, Skims, etc etc. Due to their industry connections they are a cut above and very affordable. -

Or a Waitrose!😜 btw..this IS a joke! I never used either shop..never even went in them (not my thing..) But I'm sad for the staff working there. As someone who works in retail I feel gutted for the staff whenever I read of shop closures. What amazes me in this financial crisis when Pubs are struggling and hospitality and retail genererally are having a tough time of it is the amount of people who obviously have money to spend on getting their nails (and botox etc) done. Theres a large the amount of Nail bars in ED and Forest Hill town centre that seem to keep opening and keep trading I do my own nails cos tbh I'd rather spend a few quid in Superdrug and paint my own nails and be able to have a nice glass of wine in my local once a week. I dont know what I'd like to open there but not another Nail bar, bakery or coffee chain, estate agent or barbers. -
Teens selling magazines for knife charity
NewWave replied to Angell34's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Farringdon Station and Bond St station has dozens of these young people working for this "charity" Its actually overwhelming as they just seem to accost me one after the other relentlessly..I DO care about knife crime, I DO want to see young people from urban areas encouraged and supported in ways that help them forge carrers, grow and prosper and get away from the temptation of 'gangs' etc.. However..I've never been tempted to be sucked in to their spiel because its actually just too in my face too much one after another jumping in my path walking alongside me talking to me..one gives up and another immediately takes their place. I'm a woman in my mid 60's and due to being a londoner born and bred in the inner city I just keep walking and go 'no,sorry' but I'm sure some may be intimidated or worn down by them.. I dont blame the kids they're trying to hassle for a wage and to be honest most have been very polite but it is just exhausting to have to run the gauntlet of youths in ones face asking for money. especially after a long exhausting day at work -
Local dentists branching out from teeth

Local dentists branching out from teeth
NewWave replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've noticed it seems to be the 'modern world' that dentists now offer a sideline of botox and the like and cosmetic dentistry too..invisilign,veneers etc. I'm like you old school (and old!) I want my dentist to look at my teeth not the lines on my forehead. I go to Damira dental in Penge (out of the way I know but the 176 stops opposite) they take NHS and private and I moved there about 5 years ago when my former dentist kept trying to push cosmetic dentistry on me (veneers and all that jazz) and trying to tell me that it would 'protect my teeth' blah blah. Damira are good and refered me to kings when I had an issue that needed an 'ondodontist' (no I'd never heard of it either) highly reccomed and the reception staff emily and Sharon are both lovely! Good hygenists there too. -
Then just go to the greengrocers in Nunhead and Peckham. My DH and I consider a few places in ED and London generally a 'rip off' so we shop elsewhere. We dont get judgemental towards those who do choose to shop there..Its their money to spend as they wish.
-
We shop at Bora and are normal working people who did'nt pay a million for our house and dont live a high end lifestyle And I've got to say we've never been 'ripped off' or felt ripped off since we started shopping there shortly after they opened. We dont buy wildly exotic stuff which does tend to be more expensive just nice tomatoes, celery, apples, etc etc and most of what we buy is clearly priced and although more expensive than pre-packed supermarket stuff not extortionately so. Probably about the same sort of price we'd pay at Borough Market I do wish people would complain in person to the store in question rather than post on a public forum... Its hard enough to run a buisness in London and one that relys on local trade to keep going honestly does'nt need the added hassle of negative reviews on a public local forum. There is plenty of choice to go to cheaper places for fruit and veg and if one finds somewhere overpriced just dont shop there. I don't go to that place on Belenden road for instance because I do find it overpriced..Ditto there are resturants in the area that I find a rip off so I dont choose to go there but I won't name or slag them off here unless they're part of a chain in which case I'll happily name and shame.

I'm interested in Adult swim lessons too. @Sue Is Trish based at Dulwich Leisure centre then? I'm a member there so I'll enquire.

Anywhere selling decent strong tea bags locally?
NewWave replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yorkshire gold teabags are the best..available in most supermarkets -
I find prices are pretty clearly marked per kilo and I've actually found the cost pretty fair for the quality of the produce. In fact I find it better priced than M&S who's fruit veg and sald prices have become silly
