  1. Its reported in the Evening standard. The police really need to get get a grip on local crime this was in broad daylight during rush hour.
  2. There goes the neighbourhood. I'm signing I dont want Peckham to become Shorditch
  3. I think that StChristophers which is a local charity may appreciate it more. They have less admin costs than a huge concern like Oxfam and also make much less money from donations.
  4. Try the St Christophers Charity shop on Lordship Lane
  5. I wonder what happens to the residents in that situation? Such upheaval.
  6. Walking past today I noticed that the 'new' (can only be 5 years old?) houses next to the old police station on Upland rd had scaffolding and an awning over them they all appeared to now be empty. I always rather liked the look of those houses and am surprised to see major building work on such a new terrace of houses. Whats the story here? And were they all rental properties since they are now empty? Just curious..is it another case of shoddy new builds?
  7. Nice to hear someone give them a plug I was waiting for the bus outside this afternoon and once again I felt a little sad for the owners, Pizza oven blazing away in the background chef stood looking bored on phone, waitress stood gazing out the door, tables laid with wine glasses etc and not a soul inside. We dont eat Pizza or I'd give them a try
  8. Agree! they look anxious almost cowing like they just dont want to be there. I dont own a dog (due to working full time) but I am a dog lover and this photo makes me feel very sad.
  9. Thank you. I usually travel to Bank station. Moorgate is also a short walk. To Get to Bank from Forest Hill I get the overground to Shadwell then the DLR to Bank. The advantage of Forest Hill over ED is that you have two choices of Overground trains there and back those from/to Crystal Palace and West Croydon Of course if you caught the London bridge train instead then you can change to the Northern Line. My advice if looking around the SE23 Horniman Gardens area is to look into the 1960's town houses lots of light, a good size and in nice 'private' feeling roads that are access only. Also for some reason they go a lot cheaper (to rent and buy) than Victorian and actually having owned a Victorian terrace before I much prefer the layout and light in these (we actually were specifically looking for a 60's townhouse when we moved here for this reason) Good luck! We found our house through Pedders and they were excellent
  10. I echo the recommendations above for SE23 Forest Hill in the area around the Horniman Museum. You have Horniman Triangle playground, Horniman gardens and museum,Sydenham and Dulwich woods, Kid friendly cafe's and transport links are better than West Dulwich. I live in the area and walk to Crystal Palace (or its an easy train or bus ride) I can get to peckham for a change of scene (restaurants and bars) I walk to Lordship lane when the weather's nice, if not,2 busses go there. Its easy to get to your mother in Honor oak park, There's a Sainsburys a fantastic butcher, and Deli's. And the state schools are excellent. We moved here from West London 11years ago and aside from missing the fabulous transport links where we lived before when theres a train strike We really dont regret it at all. We also have the loveliest Neighbours and there are a great many young families here. It takes me about 45 mins to get to work in W1 35mins on a good day. Oh and theres Forest Hill pools and a small local library

  13. Is that the place thats opened by the bus stop next door to yard sale Pizza? It looked totally deserted the other day and it did make me question who in their right mind would open a new pizza/italian place near so many established Pizza/Italian places. It just looked so uninviting and..sad really
  14. perhaps also post this on the SE23.com forum that serves that area too
  15. i questioned EA about the fact so much equipment is broken and has been for weeks and weeks. The response I received was that the company that the equipment is leased from had a shortage of engineers ... This week I received an update from a staff member at EA that the company in question were waiting on parts from Italy. I actually don't believe the handover has anything to do with the poor repair record for equipment. In my place of work we have had real issues finding qualified staff across many areas as well as delays in deliveries from Europe. This is a direct result of leaving the EU.
  16. Seriously?? Another chain cafe with food prepared off site and heated up on the premises. are you on their PR team?? their food isn't that great. Ole and Steen is a better chain IMHO.
  17. Wagamamas is not what it used to be... another chain..guess they're the only ones who can afford the rents now. I'd rather have a Barclays bank than a Wagamamas. And... Who can really afford to eat out more than once a month these days?? we are both adults in full time work, middle income.. we go out for a meal once a month maximum and I'm not talking flashy west-end I'm talking local.
  18. Theres a wonderful space upstairs at the EDT with its own entrance
  19. Oh! and I forgot! theres a farmers market in Horniman gardens on Sundays.. Its a bit sparse on stalls at times but still nice to go to to get non-supermarket food
  20. If you walk down to Forest Hill (10mins walk) you'll pass a fabulous Butcher opposite Sainsbury Post office in WHsmith next to FH station, Deli in AGA's on Dartmouth rd or the Pantry behind FH station, Theres Superdrug and a 'proper' Chemist Boots is on dartmouth rd. There's probably more that I've forgotten but they're an easy stroll away from your end of LL
  21. we go to The vets on Lordship lane thats the Medivet one. Been going 11years and have been happy with the treatment our cat has received. We never feel 'ripped off' by them as an example our cat had to have tartar removed from his teeth which involved an overnight stay and anaesthetic, They then recommended ways to keep the tartar at bay going forward using an inexpensive product available on Amazon and he hasn't needed the expensive treatment since.
  22. I haven't a clue but if it was an actual crime scene I think there would be more than a couple of police stood there with a small area taped off. In fact you wouldn't be able to even walk past because forensics would need to examine the scene. so its a mystery but crime related? I doubt it especially if a fatality is involved.
  23. I do hope the FH gets taken over by another pub chain. It would be awful to see it become yet another church (I dont have anything against churches btw...I just like old cinemas to be repurposed into something for the wider community) Its a beautiful building and I believe it is actually listed.. More importantly although not a Wetherspoons drinker I feel sad for the loss of somewhere that locals can get cheap drinks and cheap hot meal or breakfast. Its also somewhere that a whole family with limited funds can go for a birthday evening out. Not to mention the sad loss of jobs for locals.
