  1. Great PR stunt Obama when your popularity and your US dollar has been declining of late. He has been dead for years.
  2. think this is the test route with the Lombard Roundabout..tell your son to watch that as it has 5 exits..I messed it up when I took my test years ago but the examiner passed me anyway as the rest of the test went OK. Best to take a driving test at peak times in the morning as you spend most of the time sitting in traffic!!

  12. When I was about 14, I nicked a can of hairspray and some hair bobbles from Boots (Lord knows why). I got caught and the police came! My friend who I was with at the time told her mum and I thought I'd got away with it..until her mother told mine. I remember listening in my bedroom whilst my mum was on the phone to her and bracing myself for the biggest hind-slapping imaginable. When she got off the phone she calmly called me over and then she burst into tears. I think that was worse than any slap she could have given me.
  13. OK so 'beating' methods aside, your 12 year old son is found to be keying a neighbour's car. You catch him outright . What do you do to him as punishment and /or teach him a lesson?
  14. Chips fried in Olive Oil taste vile..tried that once..thought it would be a healthier for me.
  15. use as suntan oil in the summer. You'll get a lovely crispy golden tan!
  16. replace the word 'thumped' with 'slap on the backside' or 'clip round the ear'. Maybe Ms B didn't literally mean 'thump'?

Stop cowering behind hoary claptrap like > 'different cultural values' and do the right > thing! Oh really?! Probably resulting in poor child receiving an even bigger beating when he/she gets indoors. No one is 'cowering behind different values claptrap'. NO ONE is saying it's right. I spent two years as a child living in Egypt and we were hit in school by the teachers with sticks/rulers (rather like Annette's photo above!). I remember a teacher slapping me around the face because I had the audacity to throw my sandwich in the bin. I was a six year old girl. Just accept that, whether right or wrong, in a lot of cultures this is what is deemed as discipline or punishment.

I'm not justifying the mother's (mentioned in the first post) action at all..she sounds dreadful, but you have to accept that in some cultures dishing out punishment(whether warranted or not) or even teaching discipline can be very harsh. My mum used to keep a leather slipper aside for whenever I got a bit lippy and my cousins would get the belt once in a while! Looking back it kept us all out of trouble. However, to live in constant fear of your parents when you're basically a good kid and being hit in the face is totally wrong.

As DuchessofDulwich points out, the car park staff don't really care.
