I don't really want to get into an argument about this, however, I'm pretty sure I never said that there was anything wrong with posting a comment on this forum! Lots of people post on here knowing full well that they will never be held to account for the fall out from their posts. Would you be willing to discuss face to face your opinions with one of the market stall holders which(in your words)are "pretty rubbish"? If so, I'll bow out...

I'm not sure it's an agenda to keep house pricing down (if it is, it won't work) it's just slightly depressing that some people who (presumably) live in ED have nothing positive to say on this forum. If one of the stall holders has in some way "wronged" you then fair enough, however, if thats not the case, writing negative comments about the market in general, can have an adverse effect on people who are just trying to earn a living. If you don't like the market (I do) you don't have to go...
  4. Yet again, another thread which has turned into a slating of all things East Dulwich. I can not understand why people who seem to have nothing but contempt for this area live here? Ron70

  6. Hi Liz, Sounds to good to be true, however, we are occasionally caught short and any help with an over active spaniel would be greatly appreciated. If you could send a PM, maybe we (my wife and I) could arrange something?

So Louisa, by your reasoning, if a shop has a clothing section which is seldom used it's in some way an indication of its class demographic? I'm lost!! Maybe there should be a warning put on the packaging of puff pastry mince pies so that the working classes know they are to be avoided for consumption by middle class people only?... I'm probably gonna stop there....

Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Jeremy you walk in there and see the smug middle > classes lapping up the pretentious puff pastry > mince pies, what's wrong with Mr Kipling I ask > myself? > > Louisa. Louisa, I'm pretty sure I'm about as working class as you can get and I shop in Sainsburys (mainly because I don't have a car)am I now middle class? I think you'd be hard pushed to find someone who professed to be "middle class" shopping in the clothes section of Sainsburys and I'm not sure how a mince pie can be pretentious. A little bit of inverted snobbery going on here maybe?
  11. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Quite expensive sums up Sainsbury's for me. Middle > class central. > > Louisa. Sainsburys, middle class? Yes I was thinking that whilst wandering round the Dog Kennel Hill branch, first thing that came to me was "middle class" especially the clothes section...the epitome of middle class?
  12. Sorry, I meant to say that we live on Crystal Palace road so private message me if you'd like to have a look round...
  13. We used a company called Valdex for exactly the same type and scope of work you're planning to undertake. I can not reccomend them highly enough. We were (and still are) complete novices to the re-furb game but these guys were very patient throughout. Quite happy for you to have a look at the work they've done at our house if you'd like to see what they've done. We did lots of things wrong during this project but thankfully picking good builders wasn't one of them...

So why is giving you advice on how to prevent your property being targeted not good policing? If the criminals move on to the next street whose occupants do the same as you the problem eventually leaves the area... How else do you realistically expect to reduce crime?
  15. EPB Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Wouldn't it be lovely if we could have music every > Saturday? You're right, the music made it, that's what's missing from the normal Saturday market. They have music (in various forms) every week at the Herne Hill market which is amazing... Come on East Dulwich!! 🎵

I think if you were to look in to the rates of recidivism for those convicted of burglary you would probably think again on "real deterrent sentencing" being the best option. Primary crime prevention is the solution, if you make your property and subsequently your area unattractive to the potential burglar, they will go elsewhere... Admittedly this will only lead to the displacement of the problem to another area, however, if everyone were to take this fairly straightforward approach, crime rates would drop... Fact

Some of you are just miserable buggers! Vik, you are absolutely right. Some people are never happy... It's like a little forum of negativity, cheer up people it's nearly Christmas!

Yes we should prevent any progress whatsoever in East Dulwich so as to maintain convenient parking for local residents. If you're a local who doesn't own a car and uses public transport... Tough!

Difficult to see why Southwark council would discount them as an option while spending ?285,000 on improving the cyclists lot? Ron70

However, I do hope that when you say you're asking people's views on Iceland, M&S & Waitrose, this forum is not your sole source for canvassing local opinion. Ron70

  23. Maybe you should leave a notice on your front door saying "no free post thankyou" or similar?
  24. I can't really see what there is to complain about. Even if there was only one article of interest to you, surely that would make it worth having a flick through?... and it's free. I like it...
