I've been researching cycling courses on his behalf as I think he would benefit from having an instructor to advise him how to approach busy roundabouts and junctions etc in heavy traffic. Not being a cyclist myself I am unable to pass this kind of knowledge onto him. I have found details for the Accompanied Cycling course run by Southwark. Has anyone tried this course? Did you find it useful? Not sure he will agree to it but I'll have a go.

He's a student on a gap year so the money to repair his bike would come in handy although not the main issue, to be honest. He was on his way to work so probably wiped out his pay for the day. He's not complaining about it. That's life. He'll just suck it up. He has learnt that he needs to approach junctions cautiously to avoid potential collisions with careless motorists which has been a useful lesson for him. Edited to say that I am a car driver myself so that was not an attack on motorists in general.

Bike was bought new from Edwards in November so presumably has the correct light fitted. I'm no expert on bikes, I'm afraid.

He was riding down CPRd and the car jumped the junction from Whately Road and would have hit him side on had he not swerved away from the car towards the middle of the road. The car hit the frame of his bike a couple of inches from his ankle. The car's headlight was smashed and the casing broken off

Perhaps the op has > no idea what could come of reporting the driver to > the police, but she is willing to give it a try. This pretty much sums up what I feel. If you jump a junction, plough into a cyclist and then just drive off you shouldn't be surprised if the police knock on your door to have a quiet word.

My son was hit by a car on his bike this morning at the junction of Crystal Palace Road and Whately Road at approximately 6.50. Car pulled out of Whately Road as my son was riding across the junction. Car stopped momentarily and then drove off into Underhill Road. My son managed to swerve to avoid direct impact and car fortunately narrowly missed his leg. Car was a bright red VW. Didn?t get registration plate but fairly old model as headlight plastic casing found in road dated 1996. There were several people around at the time: four cars, P13 bus and a woman standing at bus stop. Please PM me if you were a witness to this accident.

The Gardens Surgery - problematic booking system?

Their system doesn't accept ringback unfortunately. It usually takes me 15/20 minutes of constant redialling to get through and often the appointments have all gone by the time I do get through. We have ended up at the Lister Health Centre in Peckham with a walk-in appointment on a couple of occasions. Several hours wait, though. -
