I have used coloured butter icing and decorated with different colour sprinkles for each section which creates a shimmery effect. I hired a tin from Cake Expectations in Elmers End (?1 plus ?10 deposit I think) but I would imagine Ayres would also hire out cake tins. Have also used the cake decorating shop at Herne Hill opposite Brockwell Park before who also hire out tins. Not sure if they are still there though. Make sure you grease the tin really well as the cake is inclined to stick in the moulded areas.

If anyone is interested in getting a SelectaDNA kit they have supplies at East Dulwich police station.

Did you get yours from the police station?

Considering getting one of these kits and would like some feedback about how effective they are. Does displaying a sign in your window prove to be a good deterrent? Has anyone lost valuables marked with Smartwater and got them back? Anyone know whether the police have any of these kits available at the moment or do I need to buy one?

Hallowe'en disappointment -- no trick-or-treaters

Gone very quiet for last half hour. More quiet than other years but still good fun. Got a few sweets left over for me ... and the kids! ... to tuck into. -

We got home 10 minutes ago. Five visits since then so they are all obviously on our road ... and the doorbell keeps getting stuck. AArrgghh !! -
Found a dead one on my front lawn last week. Presumably it had been poisoned and that is where it took it's dying breath. Guess who had to dispose of it? Eeuugh!

I had a swarm of them in the kitchen a couple of weeks ago. They were crawling everywhere! Hundreds of them! The door and windows were closed so I guess they must have got in through the extractor fan. *Shudders*

England v Slovenia - What is your office/school doing?
Mamma Mia replied to Mick Mac's topic in The Lounge
My daughter's teacher at Dulwich Hamlet has asked the Head if they can watch the match in the school hall. He is doing it for the kids' sake, of course. Hope they let them stay until half time if they want to then dash home for the second half. -
In my experience the communication was very good about general matters but not so with individual student problems. I have no children there at the moment but will be starting again with year 7 in September. I have reservations about going back to Charter but I have heard from current parents that things have improved.

Might be worth putting a note near to where you found it if possible. I drove off leaving my double buggy on the pavement when mine were small and the estate agents had very kindly taken it in and left a note on the tree to let me know where it was.

We have had intermittent problems with ours. We had nothing for 24 hours the week before last and on and off for some time before that and now still very slow at times. We had an engineer booked to come and change our box when it went down completely but then it came back to life so it wasn't necessary.

I think intervention classes are targetted at students who are struggling, usually provided in small groups, as far as I am aware. One of my daughters who is mildly dyslexic has had extra help in this way.

We have just finished A level anxiety at our house (second time around) and same problem here. I am the only one who is getting stressed! Got a few years break before GCSE/A levels with the younger ones. Hey Ho.

Another option would be to organise a babysitting circle to avoid having to pay sitters' fees? I was fortunate enough to have my MIL available to babysit for me most of the time when mine were younger but also did a rota with other mums occasionally. Obviously more tricky for single mums.
-
I think it depends on the age of the children and what they are expected to do. My teenagers have had babysitting jobs, usually paid ?6/7 per hour and it has varied from playing xbox with an 11 year old all evening and watching movies to supervising quite young children right through from having tea to putting them to bed which is a big responsibility for a 16 year old. I have only ever really felt comfortable about them babysitting younger children if I have been at home for the evening in case they need advice, particularly if the parents are going up to town to the theatre and cannot quickly return home if required. I do agree, however, that earning perhaps ?40 for an evening watching the telly does give them an unrealistic expectation of the value of work. When they get a real job, it comes as quite a shock.

Thanks guys. Hadn't considered going via Forest Hill before. Will try that way next time.
