My last encounter with the whistling traffic conductor was on rye lane up by the khans bus stop when he was directing the buses and calling each bus a c**t, and plenty of passers by too.

I didn't call anyone a racist, nor imply it

The same bloody minded, ingorant intolerance to change is what I was getting at. I wasn't suggesting he was racist, as I imagine you knew.

Several pubs in Barrow-in-Furness where family and many friends live and I used to live. Pubs i've visited in Skegness, Portsmouth, Margate, Blackpool, East London, Manchester, Liverpool all fit the description. This is in the 90's and noughties too.

Unfortunate at the Flying Pig tonight. Ordered a bottle of Rogue Porter, got it back to the table and it was past it's sell by date. Took it back to the bar and the manager apologised and reached for another, but was also out of date. She asked if she could get me another and recommended a different porter. Got that back to my table and it was a full 16 months out of date. Obviously took that back too. Didn't see any effort to take he remaining bottles from the fridge but just an excuse that we haven't checked the dates for a couple of months. So, when they were checked a couple of months ago they must've knowingly stocked the fridge with beer that was over a year past it's sell by date. Now, I know this isn't the greatest crime in the world and possibly quite easily missed. I'll go back and give the place another chance because it's the first bad experience in there- but if the same bottles are being sold at the weekend or next week- what would be the right thing to do?

My order of preference in East Dulwich/Peckham is probably: If the sun's shining: Franks- car park roof top bar in Peckham, best views of London bar none- good mixed crowd, decent selection of Meantime Beers (the California Pale Ale is very nice), good food, cheap cocktails. If the sun's not shining: The Gowlett- still a proper pub that happens to make amazing pizzas. Also has decent music playing on occasion, especially on a Thursdsy evening for 'Lucky 7s'. The Montpelier- good beer, good atmosphere, good crowd. EDT - decent atmosphere, decent beer and half decent food. Especially good for Rugby internationals. Bar Story - rubbish beer, ok pizzas, cheap strong cocktails- good music, fun crowd and great venue. Great Exhibition- decent beer, half decent food, nice surroundings. The Flying Pig - second to none beer selection- hit and miss BBQ food. Can be lacking a bit in atmosphere- but good staff. The Old Nun's Head - Decent beer, does regular pop up food (the Burger Bear residency was great)- can lack atmosphere though- has some decent nights upstairs. Peckham Refreshment Rooms- for some good food and something more interesting to drink- cracking atmopshere and great staff. I'd probably avoid all of the Metropolitan Pub Company pubs (The Rye, The Actress, The Victoria Inn, The Bishop)- they're all generally soulless now. I'd avoid the Clock House- Youngs pub, rubbish beer, food has been disappointing on the four times we've given it another chance. I can't comment on anythign further up Lordship Lane as i've never been in them.

By all accounts he was more than a little disruptive at United. Rumours that he demanded a ?40k per week contract or something

I'm aware that it's quite a messy area but it never seems to bother me. Perhaps i'm just used to it. It really does me zero harm though and if it did affect me it would be for a maximum of 1 minute out of the 1440 in my day. But children running aorund unsupervised!!! All I can say is that i'm glad that I didn't have an adult watching over me every second of the day when I was a child. What an horrific childhood that would've been.

Everton just don't have money. I expect the Lukaku signing was on the back of the increased tv money. I don't see further siginificant purchases there.

liverpool are in the same difficult position that spurs were in- you just can't adequately replace bale or suarez. The ?40m+ players only tend to go to the very biggest clubs (suarez, rodriguez) or are happy at their current clubs or simply not for sale (muller, neymar, messi, ronaldo, ibrahimovic, cavani, falcao etc). There just aren't top top players available at around the ?30m mark.
-
I imagine the club knew full well that Suarez was on his way when they signed Lambert and i'd be surprised if he wasn't told in the negotiations that he'd have regular first team football.

Struggling to care if it ends in failure in 2 years time. I'll happily admit i'm a fair-weather England fan. It's much easier to get behind Germany (the other half's country).
-
It's a funny one- there's no obvious leader, so should we just pick a player that's likely to always be picked and has a bit of experience? To be honest, i'm struggling to care.
