I wanted to ask if I could have a replacement refuse bin but the Southwark link ,although entitled "replacement bin and waste bags " only allows you to ask for more waste bags. https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=728 Have S'wark stopped providing replacement bins ? If so does anyone know cost and mechanism to obtain a replacement ?

There's a long running thread on Mumsnet that deals almost exclusively with breast cancer . http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2590723-All-the-fives-Tamoxigang-cancer-support-thread-55?pg=14 You may find the on line support helpful and possibly could locate people near who might like to meet up . Good luck .

Hope policeman's leg not too bad ,sounds awful for him . kibris - I find it very helpful to know that RCH is an ex councillor as it signals to me that she is familar with the procedures and protocols of local governement .It also sends to me a message that she is making no secret of being an ex councillor .It in no way makes me think she wants to try again .

You might find that your title plan ( or those of your neighbours on either side ) indicate whose responsibilty it is to maintain the boundary .Title plan is what I think James means when he says map . We were in a similar position and were fortunate that our neighbours title plan did indicate this - " T " marks on the title plan and text reference to northern boundaries on the title register . It's only ?3 per copy .I'd look at these first before you ask for the deeds which are more expensive .?7 a page . https://www.gov.uk/search-property-information-land-registry

well ... I find novels which are set outside in wide open spaces or woods and where the geographical setting is a strong component very soothing . re reading Lee Child and C J Box has got me through a lot when concentration was not available to me . Good plots ,v satisfactory endings ,99% of the time happy ones and ,especially with CJ Box a lovely sense of place ,strong geographical setting . And Guy Gavriel Kay is heavenly for sense of place - sort of fantasy set in medieval and pre medieval times . But possibly a little too dark for you at the moment .

Scooter/motorbike owners: watch out tonight
intexasatthe moment replied to rabbitears's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There's a notice on the public notice board by the mini Sainsbury's up at The Plough - Southwark seem to be offering bike anchors . Apologies if I'm mistaken - bit physically challenged at moment . -
So much depends on one's neighbours....

I think planting is the way forward " build a green roof over the top of your bins. Simple to do, just sink 4 100 x 100mm fence posts in the ground with post mix, add a sloping roof with marine ply, cover with felt and build your green roof."

I know this is obvious but I think the type of storage has to be in keeping with yhe house and the frontage . So what works for a 2 storey terrace with tiny front yard will look silly on a 3 storey property divided into flats and many bins .
-
That's one of the problems ..a lot of them do look quite flimsy .I suppose screening walls of painted beeze blocks might work . But would that be even more expensive ?
-
That would be great JRK - looking forward to further details !

Hi - you should be able to find refusal reasons on line .Some of the older applications have had most of the info removed but the majority are ok . Have you had a look at Southwark's interactive map ? http://maps.southwark.gov.uk/connect/southwark.jsp?mapcfg=Planning&tooltip=Plan_tips&banner=planning and checked out minor applications ? This one 12/AP/3686 | Change of use from joiners workshop/yard (Class B1) and demolition of existing single storey structure to create a new part two, part one storey 2 bedroom family dwelling with garage and amenity space at rear (Class C3) | 50 NORTH CROSS ROAD, LONDON, SE22 9EU has the standard refusal of "due to height and proximity ...and will be overbearing and create an undue sense of enclosure upon neighbouring properties etc " For comparison sake I think you need to be looking for developments that are similar in scale and scope to the Dunstans Grove one ,it won't matter how geographically close they are .

Thanks JRK .Reckon your builder friend could have a sideline there if price is right ...

You might want to get copies of title plan and register from the land registry for your place and for your neighbours's . Sometimes they indicate who is responsible for maintaining which boundary .Make sure you use the correct website -Gov.uk . https://www.gov.uk/get-information-about-property-and-land/search-the-register It's only ?3 a copy .Don't use one of the other money spinning sites who will charge you ?10's of pounds for the same info .
-
JRK - very nice .Is it custom built ? Do you know the price ?
-
Well...I think it very much depends on the existing space but I quite liked these http://frontyardcompany.co.uk/products/bindock_new.html but thought too expensive . Or...I wondered if something built with hollow concrete blocks and planted might work https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/355643701804501795/ but again probably not cheap As I say ,depends on your space but I reckon planting bushes round the ghastly things probably the way to go .

You are not alone in your despair re bin blight .I'm practically obsessed by this terrible urban travesty .I'm forever looking at front gardens for succesful examples of disguise . I agree ,I think there is overprovision . Do we need such large green/household waste bins now that we have recycling bins ? Would be great if people could/would share . And as for abandoned bins full of the wrong stuff ( often on the pavement ) after a dwelling has been cleared or had the builders in .... What can we do to improve the situation ?

Forest Hill Road Practice - in Meltdown ?
intexasatthe moment replied to George Orwell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Greed or the being humane to an employee - it's all speculation .No doubt the causes will ne many and complex . Only the surgery can know the full picture from their side ( less aware I suspect of the picture from the patients side ) . -

I'm a patient at FH, haven't used them recently but my experience of them is very variable . My own experience is not that this is a sudden change in circumstances ,rather that problems with getting appointments is an ongoing issue which peaks every now and then . It would be really encouraging if the surgery could explain what steps they'll be taking to try and improve the situation. -

I tend to agree that being short staffed and overwhelmed with work is the most likely scenario. -

No appointments for 5 weeks because they have doctors working different hours and it makes it difficult to organise ???? -

slarti - it had been stated that checking the website had revealed there were no appointments and that it wasn't possible to make an appointment unless one had chest pains . Seems appropriate to reproduce what the website actually says ( the reality ) to counter gerrit's in tepretation .
