  1. Great news Omega and absolutely the right decision . But ... I am very surprised by the use of the word " backland" as opposed to " garden " in the decision notice . Southwark allow development on backland ,even where it includes a small area of garden and even where the backland in question has never been built on . Garden v backland is a very important distinction .So seems odd for Southwark to describe it as backland in this case .
  2. I remember J&H as being a bit of a mess -) .Very ramshackle and untidy ,lots of different departments . But this was in the 50/60's ,so past it's best I suspect .
  3. Car park is open Sat and Sun and is free on those days .
  4. The topic in question is "living through building work(side return extension ) .This implies that advice is sought on living in a house while building work is carried out .Perhaps reflecting on the fact that one is fortunate to be in a position to do this will help people " live though it " . Advice sought and given . Not neccesary to open the thread ,the title is self explanatory .
  5. Well we all have our views don't we hellosailor ? I think it's inflamatory and aggresive to use words like "jeering " . I don't think there's any reason to think that gillandjoe aren't prepared to "take it" .They've started this thread and also said they're happy to meet LM ( in response to the comment that they'd never express themselves face to face in the way they do on line ) .
  6. LondonMix - your explanation was based on a belief that gillandjoe was trolling .This seems to me to be both critical and unfounded and hardly an explanation. Talk of gillandjoe's post in the same breath as " heaping abuse " is hardly the language of someone who seems to be saying that they prefer supportive, productive exchanges .
  7. Otta - I can't think of ANY post on the EDF that is necessary .Mine included .It's a forum ,people express views . Londonmix - "rude and unkind" ? Yes gillandjoe was critical of other posters . Happens all the time on the EDF ,why single out this post ? You say "GillandJoe would NEVER have the balls to say that to people's face" but send a PM calling someone names rather than expressing disaproval on the thread ? Isn't that hypocritical ?
  8. One person's "need" is another's wildest dream , coming long after they've found the money for essentials like food and rent . I agree with gillandjoe's post - the language of living through and surviving grates.
  9. If I parked with 4 wheels on a pavement forcing pedestrians into the road and obscuring a junction wouldn't I incur some kind of penalty - parking ticket at the least ?
  10. sanity girl - my thinking as well .Wish you were my neighbour . previous neighbour ( a doctor so one would imagine educated ) thought that garden waste for the brown bin included old flower pots .plastic compost bags ,broken garden tools....
  11. This was brought up some time ago and is horribly sad . I've really no idea what can be done to change the policy .
  12. Mugglesworth ,I have similar feelings . That's why I'm checking if my understanding is correct ( probably not ! ) . seems to me that congestion /people adapting their habits because frustrated are elements . But surely that should apply to ,for instance ,the increasingly congested M25 and other motorways ?
  13. I'm no expert and don't know the details of your case but the " causing obstruction/inconvience " is a pretty catch all phrase .And rather subjective .
  14. Is the theory - close a road ,traffic forced on to route b ,route b becomes congested ,people eventually become so annoyed that they give up driving /traffic evaporates ?
  15. " Most of these are avoided by developers who want to have a longer-term relationship with Southwark council. " Is it just me or do these words sound a little sinister ? Developers don't take Southwark to task for tardiness because although they could, they're afraid of damaging a long term relationship ? They'd be disadvantaged in future dealings with Southwark because they'd pulled Southwark up for failing to meet a legally set target ? Don't complain or you'll suffer .That can't be right surely ?
  16. James ,as this appeal is based on a technicality ( Southwark not deciding within time limit ) forwarding orginal comments or making new ones is not so relevant for objecting neighbours . But - in case there are people reading in other appeal cases - they shouldn't rely on their original objections being forwarded but make fresh objections against the applicant's reasons for appeal .
  17. GBK has terrible acoustics and is always noisy ,so don't feel too sorry ..
  18. Thanks for the update MarkT .
  19. Would you store the apples until February ? Seems odd to have an apple day event at the end of February ? What am I missing ?
  20. I always rinse ,bottles cans etc but I'm never sure about pizza boxes - lots of cardboard but inevitably a bit greasy ,and olive oil bottles . Should I lever off the plastic pouring bit and use lots of hot water to rinse ?
  21. Hoping they can build in the back garden indeed .Tsk. Tsk.
  22. Maybe it's me . It's not the speed that is a concern ,it's the congestion ,squeezing in and out .
