Motorbike chase in peckham Rye

Wonder if it was thought that the publicity might glamourise and encourage more outings ? -
ED Harris boys - use of the Rye
intexasatthe moment replied to savage's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Guess we all have differing views . Personally I think the park like nature would be compromised if the playing field bit were to be more extensively used throughout the week . I agree with firstmate's comments and don't see any NIMBYism going on . " Local children are free to use the park as individuals, the objection is annexing part of the park as a regular school playing field. We also have to consider if Harris start to book pitches as regular users this then forces another school to stop using them. Perhaps other schools have a prior claim? Again, this was all looked at and agreed before Harris opened, with full knowledge of Harris and parents." -
Dog walkers Peckham Rye Park

Could someone take pics of the dogs and post ? Or would this be too risky for the person taking the pictures? -
ED Harris boys - use of the Rye

Two wrongs and all that ..... and Harris Fed remains insensitive . Thanks for offer of help - my mum's no longer there so not a problem for me or her . -
Off topic I know but BrandNewGuy's photo almost identical to the scene in Hanover Park in Peckham where the road closure with it's diverted buses is causing chaos . Removal ( goodness knows why ) of some of the road closed signs saw buses doing 3 point turns the other day . Haven't seen a workman ( apart from a Conways van removing signs ) all week .

ED Harris boys - use of the Rye

Or then again perhaps The Federation is equally insensitive to ED residents . I still can't get over their response to the proposal by Charter to open a second school in East Dulwich . 'we will challenge any decisions to proceed with all the means available to us' -
ED Harris boys - use of the Rye
intexasatthe moment replied to savage's topic in The Family Room Discussion
EDMummy - yes I realise this is about Harris boys and use of the Rye . Was responding to JB's point about the sensitivity of the Harris Federation . The same Harris Federation that ignored me when I contacted them about the problems I was having with one of their schools .Sorry for the detail ,but I was amazed by the lack of concern and level of arrogance . Perhaps the Federation is more sensitive in their dealings with East Dulwich residents than they are with those who live in Peckham . -
I know what you mean Sue . I kind of thought that there might be an element of Friday night demob happy hour about the post . Alice doesn't normally post using such terms ! But what do I know .
-
Sue that doesn't sound like your normal helpful self . Is it only ok to ask for advice if you're doing up a place you've moved into in and wrong to ask for advice if you're trying to sell ?

ED Harris boys - use of the Rye

Oh James you're scraping the barrel if you're citing this as evidence of Harris's sensitivity ! When my 90 odd year old mother had continuing problems with boys climbing into her backgarden to retrieve the footballs that had wrecked her plants, the superhead at the Peckham Academy wouldn't even walk across the playground to see the situation for herself .She was " too busy to leave the premises " . We were to call on her in her office . A previous visit by myself to the school on the same issue ( I was actually concerned for the safety of the boys climbing over such a high fence ) were dealt with by the previous head interviewing me in a corridor . I particularly remember wishing we could sit down as conversation was made difficult by the 18" difference in our height . Letters to the Federation asking for their help and explaining the lack of success of approaches to the school were just passed back to the school . Nor was there any attempt to pre warn my mother or her neighbours ( whose properties are a few feet from the school playground ) when it was decided that this would be opened up to a Saturday market complete with generators, music ,vehicles . Harris Federation sensitive - don't make me laugh ! -
Alice - are you asking for advice to help you choose items for doing up your own home or are you putting your place on the market and wanting advice on how to make a property more saleable ? Because the former would be down to your own personal taste and we can't really help .Whereas the latter is more a question of what's in vogue ...

hopskip wrote " Our Councillors should have provided the necessary facts and viable options to avoid this issue escalating and dividing the community. FACT: The April police traffic survey is clear that on its normal measures and recent study of Melbourne Grove that the road operates within normal measures at the 85th percentile across all vehicle groups. FACT: Southwark Council officers provided a briefing (shown in full earlier on this thread) to Councillors in time for them to relay facts to the June DCC public meeting. They did not refer to this document during the debate following the Deputation. Southwark Council state in this briefing that they do not support barriers as an intervention. FACT: The Deputation for the barrier focused on a single solution. Why they did so is not clear. The 138 signatures attached to the deputation were not in the prescribed format to ensure all signing were aware that they were supporting a single option for a barrier rather than support for an appropriate traffic calming measure. These 138 signatories represent a smaller number of households as there are multiple signatures per household. SUPPOSITION: The 138 signatories would not all have known what they were signing for as the signatures were gathered before the deputation statement was finalised and submitted and it did not appear on the sheet that they signed. FACT: Other Melbourne residents, residents on adjoining roads, local shop keepers and residents on potentially impacted roads are now aware of the proposal to close Melbourne Grove and are not supportive of that particular measure for traffic calming but would support other options. FACT: There was some agreement for a feasibility study and an award of ?10k CSG funding stated at the June DCC but no minutes yet available as an official record and confirmation of next steps. The issue will come up again at the DCC on 9th Sept. SUPPOSITION: Councillors will be reconsidering their views and examining the costs of a variety of potential solutions. They will look for a solution that is proportionate to the locality." Good post .

I think self inflating mats ( SIMs ) are warmer and comfier than air beds . People think air mattresses are better because they are thicker but they are colder and will be too heavy if you're carrying them . Something like this https://www.decathlon.co.uk/forclaz-400-self-inflating-camping-sleeping-mat-xl-blue-id_8330022.html Take micro fleece blankets - have as much under you as on top .http://www.bhs.co.uk/en/bhuk/product/home-lighting-furniture-2565866/throws-bedspreads-2518933/microfleece-1022204/purple-microfleece-throw-3182761?bi=0&ps=20 Take a pillow . And sleep in fleecy PJs . I'd lend you stuff but all my camping stuff is currently in Devon .

Link ,again ,to petition asking for " We the undersigned don't want Melbourne Grove South blocked off by a barrier. We want joined-up thinking to make all our roads safer for everyone. We want the whole community - young and old, drivers, pedestrians and cyclists - to be able to use our streets easily and safely. As residents we want the emergency services to have rapid access to our roads when we need their help. We believe the best way to get safer shared streets for everyone is to call on Southwark Council to produce a comprehensive traffic management study to include all roads in the Grove Vale/Lordship Lane, East Dulwich Grove, Townley Road Triangle. Wulfhund - I can't see how your tragedy of the commons applies here . We're talking about a road ,the main function of a road is to convey traffic .I'm sure you disagree on this but that doesn't make your view correct . How can a road's function be damaged by people driving down it ? Or do you feel that a road's function is limited to providing access to those residents who live on the road ? Oh and to provide a play area ,cycle way and speakers corner . And " where local knowledge no longer counts for anything & someone mid-way through a 25 mile journey knows as much about the network as a local mum popping to Sainsburys " what are you talking about ? Why should a mother driving to Sainsbury's lack knowledge of the " network " ?Or are you just trying to be offensive ?

"Normal behaviour" for a child
intexasatthe moment replied to Tallulahdoesthehula's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm going to say this very quietly and stress it's meant in a light hearted spirit and of course says more about my lack of self control and poor parenting but ..... a chocolate bunny received at Easter and still uneaten ??? Normal ? Not in this house . -
" Respect people's right to believe in what they want ie. religion " trouble is I don't . Religion very dangerous in my view ,often preys on the weak and disadvantaged .
-
Golly I can be stupid - I see what is meant by the house behind ! Can't believe I couldn't before . Won't bore with details but sometimes when I look at things it's like an optical illusion . http://www.moillusions.com/young-lady-or-old-hag/

Is there a group C for people who don't understand what the slabs are meant to be aligned with ? They seem to line up with the house ( i don't understand about the house behind Kai's house ,where is it ? ) .Is it just that all the joints are meant to be in one unbroken line ? Please feel free to ignore me .

Good posts from rch .especially this "This isn't helped by the fact that the cllr position is still only a part-time role split between three elected members per ward who don't necessarily communicate with each other... while this might have worked back in the 50s and 60s, the whole system really needs to be reviewed, in my opinion, with a view towards cllrs becoming a full time role with proper compensation and a support system rather than a "volunteer" role limited to hands off "representation" and scrutiny, which can be fobbed off by an administration based five miles away. " Can someone tell me - has a decision been made re a barrier in Melbourne Grove ? I thought we were still at the investigation stage . But I've been away without internet so may have missed something while trying to catch up .

But not well tolerated because it stings like b***ery .

Medical grade honey is routinely used by district nursing teams to aid healing of leg ulcers . Just saying . Shame hospital incident quoted above not resolved more amicably - reasonable request and who knows , possibly unreasonably made by someone driven mad by opiate pain killers .
