  1. "On an other occassion I called to request a Blue bin to replace my Blue box. I was asked what size I wanted (there are 3 different sizes.) " that's interesting DF . I've had a voice mail from Veolia ( who were forwarded my request by Southwark ) telling me " no problem at all " to provide a 360 to replace two 240's an email from Southwark telling me that they only offer 2 sizes ( I'm after the larger 360 to replace 2 240s ) a conversation with Veolia who said various things like ," we've recently engaged with people on Barry Rd " and as a result our supply of 360 bins is depleted . Going to be months before any back in stock . Can't log my interest ,I'll need to reapply through Southwark . I'm guessing the earlier voice mail was perhaps over enthusiastic ,a mistake . Certainly the 360 bins exist ,I've seen one or two .No more . Not lining Barry Rd ,that's for sure .But I'm guessing they're not routinely supplied /a secret . But if someone told me in a rush of blood to the head ,fine no problem yes you can have a 360 bin and it was a mistake ,well ,just say so . I'd understand . We all make mistakes . I don't want to be told a load of old toffee about having none left after recent engagement...... But one 360 bin would save time and money on the collection side I imagine - one movement instead of two .
  2. What about the item that has appeared attached to the traffic lights at junction of Crystal Palace Rd and East Dulwich Rd ,northbound .Just past swimming pool . I can't post a pic .Though I feel that were I to try and take one I'd be entered on some surveillence log and arrested .
  3. It's ok ,I find they answer emails fine . It was just that I was trying to return a call and finding it frustrating . It's going to be fine.....
  4. Well I'm not ...some of their patient service officers could do with some training .
  5. Believe me if I could I would . But over 45mins on the phone only to be cut off I've gone back to email .Which they seem effecient at replying to ,so I don't mind using that route .
  6. kibris - have you tried phoning about this type of thing ? I've currently spent 45 mins so far ....,phone eventually answered but greeted with a totally flat voice saying " just hold the line a minute" and I'm now being treated to an ongoing beep . Which after 10 mins has been disconnected . I'm emailing again .
  7. As far as I know one of the distinguishing features of this latest tranche of Academies is that the land is moved from LA ownership to central government . And isn't it going to cost a lot of money ....?
  8. I'd second Woodfalls for great service . And ALL the staff there are lovely ,helpful and professional .Unlike the other LL opticians where those qualties can be lacking in certain employees .Unless said individual has retired now .
  9. Yes ,thanks tomskip and big thanks to Southwark who did the same for me - emailed me back for clarification . Thank you also Renata - I was actually asking about the possibilty of having two 240 l bins being replaced by one 360 bin .... It would be lovely to reduce the number of bins at the front of the house ,divided into flats ,where I live . To share a slightly larger capacity bin ( more or less same footprint _ as opposed to having one each . But of course I imagine this would be a v costly exercise if carried out on a large scale .Although I would pay if not tooo hugely expensive .
  10. that's strange ,must be me ,going mad or something . I'll try again another day . sigh
  11. I wanted to ask if I could have a replacement refuse bin but the Southwark link ,although entitled "replacement bin and waste bags " only allows you to ask for more waste bags. https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=728 Have S'wark stopped providing replacement bins ? If so does anyone know cost and mechanism to obtain a replacement ?
  12. There's a long running thread on Mumsnet that deals almost exclusively with breast cancer . http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2590723-All-the-fives-Tamoxigang-cancer-support-thread-55?pg=14 You may find the on line support helpful and possibly could locate people near who might like to meet up . Good luck .
  13. Hope policeman's leg not too bad ,sounds awful for him . kibris - I find it very helpful to know that RCH is an ex councillor as it signals to me that she is familar with the procedures and protocols of local governement .It also sends to me a message that she is making no secret of being an ex councillor .It in no way makes me think she wants to try again .
  14. You might find that your title plan ( or those of your neighbours on either side ) indicate whose responsibilty it is to maintain the boundary .Title plan is what I think James means when he says map . We were in a similar position and were fortunate that our neighbours title plan did indicate this - " T " marks on the title plan and text reference to northern boundaries on the title register . It's only ?3 per copy .I'd look at these first before you ask for the deeds which are more expensive .?7 a page . https://www.gov.uk/search-property-information-land-registry
  15. well ... I find novels which are set outside in wide open spaces or woods and where the geographical setting is a strong component very soothing . re reading Lee Child and C J Box has got me through a lot when concentration was not available to me . Good plots ,v satisfactory endings ,99% of the time happy ones and ,especially with CJ Box a lovely sense of place ,strong geographical setting . And Guy Gavriel Kay is heavenly for sense of place - sort of fantasy set in medieval and pre medieval times . But possibly a little too dark for you at the moment .
  16. There's a notice on the public notice board by the mini Sainsbury's up at The Plough - Southwark seem to be offering bike anchors . Apologies if I'm mistaken - bit physically challenged at moment .
  17. So much depends on one's neighbours....
  18. I think planting is the way forward " build a green roof over the top of your bins. Simple to do, just sink 4 100 x 100mm fence posts in the ground with post mix, add a sloping roof with marine ply, cover with felt and build your green roof."
  19. I know this is obvious but I think the type of storage has to be in keeping with yhe house and the frontage . So what works for a 2 storey terrace with tiny front yard will look silly on a 3 storey property divided into flats and many bins .
  20. That's one of the problems ..a lot of them do look quite flimsy .I suppose screening walls of painted beeze blocks might work . But would that be even more expensive ?
  21. That would be great JRK - looking forward to further details !
  22. There seem to have been a number of far smaller applications declined, so I would be keen to show these as precedents. If you know addresses you should find details .
  23. Hi - you should be able to find refusal reasons on line .Some of the older applications have had most of the info removed but the majority are ok . Have you had a look at Southwark's interactive map ? http://maps.southwark.gov.uk/connect/southwark.jsp?mapcfg=Planning&tooltip=Plan_tips&banner=planning and checked out minor applications ? This one 12/AP/3686 | Change of use from joiners workshop/yard (Class B1) and demolition of existing single storey structure to create a new part two, part one storey 2 bedroom family dwelling with garage and amenity space at rear (Class C3) | 50 NORTH CROSS ROAD, LONDON, SE22 9EU has the standard refusal of "due to height and proximity ...and will be overbearing and create an undue sense of enclosure upon neighbouring properties etc " For comparison sake I think you need to be looking for developments that are similar in scale and scope to the Dunstans Grove one ,it won't matter how geographically close they are .
  24. Thanks JRK .Reckon your builder friend could have a sideline there if price is right ...
  25. You might want to get copies of title plan and register from the land registry for your place and for your neighbours's . Sometimes they indicate who is responsible for maintaining which boundary .Make sure you use the correct website -Gov.uk . https://www.gov.uk/get-information-about-property-and-land/search-the-register It's only ?3 a copy .Don't use one of the other money spinning sites who will charge you ?10's of pounds for the same info .
