Is R&D on the deep-fried fat ball still on the secret list?

Did you know you can watch the BorisBike docking station statuses and stats change, minute by minute? http://data.london.gov.uk/datastore/inspirational-uses

Twirly, you've reminded me that things could be a lot worse. Nurses as in-house chuggers? And thanks for the interesting note on Peter Pan.

Here's a brief log, showing some variation. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,151452,189304#msg-189304 I think you need to randomise your observation points over time. :)

If it's ok (by some) to have a thread here devoted to the latest local sightings of allegedly 'famous' people, I hope no-one will mind my also posting a link to this thread in the Lounge about Kevin Ivison's work http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,492812 and the recent BBC World Service interview with him.

Dulwich author's new book on bomb disposal in Iraq
ianr replied to Kevin_Ivison's topic in The Lounge
There was a long interview with Kevin on the latest BBC World Service Outlook programme. An mp3 file of it (11MByte) can be downloaded at http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/outlook. -

Never mind the nosh, savour the words. Gastronomer, gastronomist, and gastrophilanthropist all made it to the OED but then apparently failed to thrive. They need your help. Anyone tried pea brains?

It is downloadable at http://www.southwarkpct.nhs.uk/a/6268 . Incidentally, I found the link only by doing a search on the site for "Have your say 2010", and even then only by ignoring the dead end at http://www.southwarkpct.nhs.uk/a/6256 and trying again; so not impressed by the site housekeeping.

Enter Kings College Hospital in the name field at http://www.ico.gov.uk/ESDWebPages/search.asp and then press Search Register to get their Data Protection Register entry. The fundraising data information is listed under Purpose 8.

There's far too much mindless vandalism to phone boxes in the area. I read this only the other day. Take care, Mr. H. "Pleading Guilty to doing wilful damage to a telephone kiosk, CLAUD RUSSELL ALLEN, aged 69, an off-licence holder of Landcroft Road, East Dulwich, S.E., stated at Lambeth yesterday: "People kept pestering me for coppers for the telephone opposite my off-licence and I want to get the kiosk removed." Mr. D. Howells, for the G.P.O., said that at night Allen took a claw hammer into the kiosk, and, after smashing the electric bulb, tore away a hand set. "Mr. P. Sutton, defending, said that Allen was suffering under a sense of grievance. The MAGISTRATE discharged Allen absolutely on payment of ?1 6s. 3d. damages and ?3 3s. costs." The Times, 17 Nov 1953

I've revised my opinion of their website. I thought the Code of Practice page http://www.butterflynannies.co.uk/code-of-practice/ was a rubbishy production; and then found it was as on the longer-established http://www.nannyplus.co.uk/code.htm. Then, as soon as I started looking, I found several more examples of content common to various other longer-established sites. These even included the bit above Eva's signature on the About Us page. http://www.butterflynannies.co.uk/about/, which bears a remarkable similarity to that for Sitters http://www.sitters.co.uk/about.aspx. "The original idea of a nationwide network of professional evening babysitters [and child carers][] sprung from [my][our] own need for reliable, experienced child carers to babysit in the evenings for [my young daughter][our two boys]. [We] found we needed babysitters both when we were at home in [London][buckinghamshire] and when visiting [Other parts of the UK][Dorset] at weekends." "Today our enthusiastic and dedicated team are able to provide evening child care in all but the most remote locations. With a nationwide network of many of carefully vetted, experienced child carers we are able to provide babysitters and childcare for more than 95% of the requests we receive from across the UK. ..." "[Eva Verissimo Founder & Director] [stephen and Lucie Allen]" Make of it what you will. Are Butterfly Nannies affiliated to or a subagency of Sitters? Vice versa? None of the above?

>I'd attribute that one to the journo storymongers But then cf: "Your story will be read back to you after we have written it. At this stage you will be able to make alterations if there is any inaccuracy in the story, although this is a very rare occurrence." http://www.cash4yourstory.co.uk/faq.html

>And Eva and Nyron are engaged [per the NOTW article: the original's here btw: http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/168005/I-only-eat-chocolate-Achalasia-sufferer-Eva-Verissimo-just-has-to-eat-chocolate-to-survive.html] Whereas a week later in her blog of 16 February 2009 she says she's been married to him for two years. http://allabouttula.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2009-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00&updated-max=2010-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=16 I'd attribute that one to the journo storymongers: young + single = more attractive/saleable/valuable. And to think, only a few hours ago, I didn't even know nanny traders existed.

On a more sympathetic and positive note (welcomed by my internal editor), here's a blog by Eva about her little girl. http://allabouttula.blogspot.com/ .

The http://www.butterflynannies.co.uk site is literate, educated, and well presented. Eva Verissimo says she is educated to the equivalent of Master's degree level. I think her agency is being very badly let down by both the style and content of Samantha's post. Is there any certainty that Samantha truly is writing on behalf of the agency? Someone wanting to deliberately harm them could well have done worse than to write in similar mode.

I can't find any entry for Butterfly Nannies on the Companies House website.

London Wetland Centre http://www.wwt.org.uk/london? Not sure if there's a best time of year to go. I've not been there yet.

Thanks, David. I now find myself reflecting on all the possible benefits of a random thread curtailment policy. This one I'm forgoing voluntarily. I have some CBeebies programmes to watch.
-
Footnote: This thread is substantially shorter than it was twelve hours ago. I distinctly remember putting in a holding response to a third post by Lee - I think PR's post was another of the resulting responses - and have just come back to think about making a fuller reply. I'm not quite sure now whether I'm miffed or relieved. Can I be both?

"vommit" [sic] would do.

> Ianr, I've thought about the squirrel situation, and I think they must have been chasing each other at speed Karrie, yes, I can't think of anything more likely. I shall have a look next time I'm there for any sign of a nest above the spot, but I think it's very unlikely. And, though I didn't examine closely, no obvious sign of any action by a predator. Quite bizarre really. On a pleasanter note, I was interested to see the goldfinch reports. I saw some in Greendale, near the railway line, on 1 June. I don't remember ever having seen one before. They're very attractive creatures.
