I stopped drinking alcohol last year. Don't let anyone beat down on you for doing so, shame on you DoverTheRoad. If you're serious about it, then there's a few things that make it less of a challenge. Eating proper and regular meals, as a drop in blood sugars is a trigger. It sounds lame, but I find a few dried fruits in the late afternoon helps, as does making sure you're actually drinking enough fluids. I figured much of my 7pm guzzle was down to thirst/dehydration. As for fake beer, I do keep a Becks Blue in the fridge, I like the hoppy tang that's required every now and then, that said I get about half way through a bottle and ditch the rest. But the key thing is not to look at 'replacing' one thing for another, as it mimics the habit. I've always been fond of sparkiling water, each brand has a different taste, some of the Turkish ones have a slight salty tang. I like that, along with Badoit, San Pelligrino, but Highland spring can be a bit 'dry'. Many versions of green tea, specially the orange blossom and one. I'm thankfully at the point where I don't crave for a drink, and i'm very often around the places that it's prevalent (i'm close to the industry, which if i'm honest has helped) and i've seen too many people who've fallen off and under the wagon. But it's a challenge, in that the drinking bit of life is much like parking up, stepping off somewhat. I've had to fill my late day and evenings with being present, which sounds a bit wanky, but it's real. You end up with a lot of time in the real world. The up side. Never a hang over (you have to remind yourself some mornings) Sleeping, not passing out Waking up, not coming to Reduced anxiety Better skin Better health I can drive anywhere at anytime Less body mass Wealthier The days seem longer, not 2 shorter halves. The downside. Hanging out with some people gets a bit boring "Yes, I heard you the first time" after they've repeated the same thing about 4 times Not having the occasional buffer between real life and yourself. The joy of just getting hammered and staggering up to bed. The sheer indulgence of very good wine. Now i'm not saying i'll never touch a drop ever again, but not indoors at mine. Out out, maybe. Weddings, funerals, bah mitzvah's.

I manage my asthma well, but at times I need to be seen pretty pronto. Things like high pollen count can hit me, maiking my meds run out quick, or the need for steriods/antibiotics. To be offered something 'next week' isn't helpful. So i've resorted to using Beckhanam beacon, and buying my ventolin inhalers from the pharmacist. And on occasions i've been to A&E. But in practice that shouldn't happen, I feel like i'm wasting their time, not that they ever say so. A few years ago this wasn't the case. The upside of late is my local surgery has just employed an Asthma nurse, and i've been invited to an "Asthma coffee morning" which should be a wheeze. So some hope is on the horizon, in Sydenham anyway

There's a very important 'dog poo/cc tv' thread that UG is busy on Remember there's no multitasking where the #brexshitters are concerned 'Taking control' and 'getting your county back' is about as much as their brain can hold That and speed reading The Express to reacidify the bile.

RE: Mature trees cut down around East Dulwich
Seabag replied to 85volga's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There are proper considerations when trees are taken down, but usually it's with good reason. There's a strong case when a disease is present, as it damages the tree slowly but surely. In the park near my house I was concerned with the size of the bracket fungus on an Ash tree. The tree was situated right by the gate, it should have been cut down. Instead it blew down, thankfully not hurting or causing much damage. We were lucky, but it might have done worse were it 20+ mt closer up the park. On inspection the tree was soft as cork through much of the trunk and down to the root stock. There's no room for sentimentality when safety is a priority. -

Ha ha..you are kidding when you say 'Churchman' ? Is that the same Church who owns so much property that it's mind boggling and who's not exactly 'spread the wealth' they have. I don't know how seriously deluded you are , but wake up (though I fear this is you 'awake'). You really think that once we've scuppered our relationship, and economy with Europe, once this country have pulled out of the influence of the European courts, that it's going to be better for your poor & dispossessed. Really, truly, actually? You are kidding. The party that are leading this with such vigor (because you handed them your red, white & blue arses on a plate) have been the ruling classes since times of old. They have been so used to ruling the likes of you, that they certainly don't want Europe interfering any further with the way they like it. They want to have the power to f*ck you over harder and as often as they feel they can. They have and will always treat the likes of you with contempt, because it's what thay can do without recall. And don't delude yourself any more with the 'stop immigration' card. There will be internal 'commonwealth' immigration to bring in nurses and the likes, so when you're laying in a home, unable to wash or go to the toilet. the nurse will be most likely part of the wave of skilled and unskilled carers we'll need to support an aging population. They most likely won't be from the rose tinted Utopia of good old Engerlaa la land you're cooking up in that overheated head of yours. And remember that care will be paid for from what little your pension or assets are worth. And if its about the people here getting to the front of the job line, then tell me how the farmers on the Fenlands are going to raise their crops, cut celery and cabbages during the seasons. Even if you took every jobless person in Cambridgeshire and put them to work (you remember that people actually work on these farms) there still wouldn't be enough people to fill the jobs needed, and as well as they're done now. So these farmers will just take their business to Romania and Poland where they already contract some their growing to. Which all and all is great, just not for the rural economy of Britain Enjoy.

John, remembering is undermining What was said 'then' really doesn't matter It's what's said 'now' that matters. Remember the 350 squillion that we're not meant to remember, not a dicky bird from the leave voters demanding it They want 'their' country back, but not the money to run its hospitals it seems Hey ho!

Yes I suppose a description of the person is way too much of a giveaway. It takes the intrigue out of it if you know what you're looking for I can see it now on crime watch "Did you see a Male with a chisel and an Oyster card" Seriously, this is lame. What did the man with the chisel actually look like? Simple question, or was he in disguise?

Agree My 'get cc tv' was a prelude to the involvement of the Police. It makes their job easier, and the bully more likely to back off. Bloody awful situation to be in tho, I do feel for the OP. -

Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ;-) > > Louisa. Naughty... But ask anyone in New Addington or Biggin hill and i'd expect they'd not be unwelcoming of the new stores. In many ways the new stores up the game somewhat, with stock levels, rotation, variety and opening hours. There's nothing worse than being stuck in a food dessert, with little choice from sparsely stocked independent stores. I remember back about 30 years ago, when out of town areas had small Sainsbury's and Dewhurst stores, so some of the trading model is old. M&S being an example, and yes it's certainly busy. Anecdotally, one of the traders on Northcross road reckons M&S opening has attracted more people to the market. But she herself comes into trade from Notting Hill. I also know that the demise of Pretty's Fruit & Veg has changed that part of ED, I used to shop there. But i'm not sure they helped themselves, missing a trick I thought with the changing requirements of shoppers. It was very good at one point and then as they went to do other things, I felt they took their eye off the ball. Sadly! -

Penge Food Centre The Butchery Tesco local Brockley market Lina stores Waitrose Marylebone/Canary Warf Brick house Budgens Sydenham Sainsbury's DKH/CP Hello Fresh some weeks Moxons All pretty well do it for us. Pretty varied mixed bunch I think. But one thing I do like is quick and knowledgable staff to deal with. Hence I've avoided Asda and the likes, tried them but found them woefully slow. -

I feel pretty disconnected from Rye lane, there's little I do/would use there There's lots of shops for sure, just not that many for me to make a 'shop' viable. Mind you, I feel the same about Surrey Quays, and Bromley Town Centre, Horses for courses I suppose. I'm not sure about this 'for every income bracket' bit, nice conceptual idea, it just doesn't pan out in real terms. For instance, take Camberwell Road. It's got lots of shops, Cash Converters, Piri-Piri Chicken etc, but no Giorgio Armani or Apple Store or Waitrose or Channel. -
