Some places just have a 'thing' about them, no matter what. Bognor Regis has gone through various stages of crappines, I guess it's the proximity to Portsmouth (another crappy town/city) Littlehampton although near Bognor didn't suffer it's same ill's and attitudes, as it looked towards Brighton for it's 'way out' and bright lights. It was still crappy, but not quite Bognor crappy. And Littlehampton Mods were always way more stylish than those from other small towns nearby Maybe it's the proximity of where West Croydon is, being cut off slightly, nowhere for it to aspire to. But there's definitely a feeling of reticence there. But oddly, the more I write about it, the more I'm compelled to go there and see further, before the rapid vanilla expansion takes over fully I only hope to avoid the Whitgift Labyrinth shopping centre, never have I felt that lost in a new shopping space

I'm doing a massive favour to West Croydon I found it so awful I may yet invest there, some 30 something could rent my investment Years later I could wax lyrical on how 'edgy' and untapped I thought it was That's between my triple bypass and hip replacement ops And then with the kids at uni, I could give them a pad from Dad to live in What's not to like about that ?

Yes Jah and from the same blog: Kirsty MacColl, whom grew up in Croydon, once added it as number 5 in her top 50 things she hates, adding she hoped it would all be "blown up" someday Not my thoughts personally, but a thought none the less

Obvs, I'm sensitive to garish colours and the like RD West Croydon with fake tans/eyebrows and general out kilter vibe, is a little like watching a 1970 TV with the colour card out of whack I genuinely saw a guy in a wheel chair smoking a fag, with his helper doing the same. He also had a can of lager and was wearing a vest. It's all very Little Britain X Grayson Perry writ large down there I'm actually planning a trip back there, to see if what I saw was real

I've two personal experiences to offer. I previously worked in the interior design business, on site with the fitting teams, in the design studios too. We delivered a very top end product in and around London and parts of the U.K. Initially all our fit/build teams were British, but slowly to begin with the Eastern European guys started to make in-roads onto teams, eventually running their own show. And thank fekk, for in the much greater part the skill levels shot up, along with the rate and output too. So much so, the design and fit regime changed in such a great degree, due to the skill levels on-site. More bang for the buck and the whole industry has benifitted from this, it's been the same across the board in my experience. We've now become accustomed to this 'standard' of delivery, were it to stop or slow I feel the economy might follow Secondly, I changed career about 4 years ago. I now work in the restaurant industry. Many kitchen teams are immigrants, Eastern Europe, Africa, South America all feature strongly. Again the work ethic is noteable, the skill sets very well honed, but the top jobs are usually UK origin, or Western Europeans. Both industries now rely on an influx of workers from outside the UK, both industries are strong on developmental growth. Any slowing of either could make a big difference in our success as a stand alone state

It's like a place that sales team are 'trained in the field' and if you survive West Croydon, you can crack it anywhere My favourite was a caffeinated suited sales guy, all perky "Yes, lady there with the runny nose, can I talk to you?" "Keep away from me if I were you" she scolded him

Good god no Louisa No cans or burger lamenting (those are your very own inverted snobbery prejudices) Wierdly it all looks fairly normal, clean and a raft of development going on. But the place is teeming with oddities I'd not seen in one place. Every where are people trying to flog or sign you up for something. 'Lawyers4U Have you had an accident?'on one stand, a 15 stone woman demonstrating a vibrating excercise stand on pad thingy. She wobbled as it shook her. More shoe/trainer stores than I'd seen anywhere And yeah, many odd bods, fake tans and dodgy eyebrows Oh and 'bags 4 u' a vaping shop and a shop that played ear bleeding loud 'cheesy pop' music All in all, very immersive 😳

  13. I'm sorry Bromley, I've been a bit harsh Had I have been to West Croydon and around the Whitgift centre I'd have been more kind about you I had to wait while my VW was serviced this morning, so I had a few hours to kill. Any longer and I'd have probably thought about throwing myself under the tram West Croydon must be twinned with Sheerness, or a care in the Comunity drop in centre. Bad teeth and just down right scary people prevail. Had Hogarth been alive today, he'd be painting the residents I'm sure. Ha ha, and I did say I'd move this way if I had too. I utterly retract that statement Mind you, one redeeming factor. If it's leisure wear or trainers your after, then this is THE place to shop. And eyebrows, in jet black or mouse brown feature, just like Bromley. But the little Joey Essex count is lower
  14. What period is your property Louisa? Some of the older 50/60's properties lacked ventilation, but also do you have a tumble drier? Sometimes these add moisture into the air, which as its warm rises easier and can cause mold

  16. I found a dead cat on the pavement of our street in Sydenham, with its tail off at the base. The cat was laid centre of the pavement at a 45 degree angle. I put it down to foxes or a dog maybe This was last year in about September or October I think I live close to Wells Park
  17. Frankie & Grace anyone? On Netflix

  22. It's the same people I believe I now own the red and white illuminated 'PRESCRIPTIONS' sign from there
  23. Old punks and the likes of BC (saw him sometime ago) look like old velvet club chairs feel, OK from a distance but up close all musty and a pain in the arse And go to a punk gig now and watch the bemused 'young punks' looking around with a 'is this what it was all about' face on No, nostalgia gigs are often slightly tragic, much like school reunions I'd much rather remember Debbie Maddox and Punk from afar, (circa 77-80)
  24. My son went to prep school with the guy from the Ruts daughter How punk is that Give him his due tho, he smelt of booze and looked worst for wear most days, much why we orientated toward each other
